  • ohhhhh this is the best version of it yet...wow thanks guys...added it to my faves..love it very much...it realey grabbed me by the heart...tx..george

  • Why would anyone attempt to sing a traditional song if they didn't know the words? Good grief.

  • Beautiful.....she has the same hair like i. haha great job!!!

  • Very hard to understand the words..... I know the song well, she slurs her words.

  • Like this version! Great job, Megan and associates. The vocal is OK: not as easy to sing as it seems. The violin is exceptional, and gives this traditional song a soulful dimension.

  • Good voice, not a bad style for this song, but she can definetely work on her breathing - and memorizing the lyrics would not hurt either :P

But the violine playing is totally beautiful!

  • Woah, beautiful :D I love this song! Reminds me of the titanic, but in the best way possible :)

  • Sounds Great!

  • this is kind of a lyrical pop/rock version

  • Toooo strange breathing pauses!

    But still good..

  • Yeah, I think she didn't fully know the words, but so what, I still really enjoyed it.

  • It's as though she hadn't gotten the lyrics down.

The second part of the first stanza she just mumbled away

strange breathing pauses, too: Down by the Salley (breath) Gardens...

"She bid me: take love easy as -- la la la la"

Yeats' poetry shouldn't be sung that way. Pity.

  • I totally love this version, it is the best I know. It is very much from the heart, and even though the first time I didn't like the little breathing pauses so much, I totally got to love them.

  • greaaaaaaat!!!

  • Her brother, Marcus, is the fellow on the left. The gentleman on the right, John, is now her husband (wasn't yet at the time this was recorded).

  • beautiful voice and playing!

  • I bear no mind to the negative comments, me. In Erie, if you're singing from your heart, that's what matters and the little lady has her heart in the tune and she gets five stars and a dusting of magic from the little sprite.

  • this girl is so nervous haha...she breathes at every place there shouldnt be a break and..messed up th words but pulled it off kind of

  • this should not be sung like this i think. sally gardens is an institution lol no more!! maura oconnell does THE version of it. no offence intended

  • I think that every artist is always looking for a different way of doing it. I do like Maura's version. Overall, Megan is great though. BTW, this was done towards the end of a very long day. They went over their contract by 2-3 hours for a military appreciation get together.

  • @dsggg999 no one is saying that isn't appreciated. but that doesn't make this close to good

  • Maura O'Connell is one of Ireland's best of the best, like Mary Black and the Brennan gals. I still have to give the little lady a hand for carrying the tune through hours over contract - she's probably exhausted - and in a large hall with not-so-good acoustics. I'm sure things would be different were little Megan were rested and refreshed, and "in the session" as mum and grandmum would say.

  • @maggot1916 I agree with you on Maura O'Connell. Yet, the instrumental part starting at 01:45 is one of the most amazing and moving ones I have ever heard!!!

  • @maggot1916 Orla does THE best version.

  • @maggot1916 Oh my God! A: Jesus is the son! B: Nooo! Mahamed is it! C: Hee! You are all stupid! Its Rabbi Chehabi! D:...! ! E: .... Kill them all! Thanks for your great interpretation n honor of life. If someone think this is THE best or watherver, evolution would not gone over the 1cell-living. It makes me goosbooms, or how it is written. Do you sing it also`?..
  • I love this song but this chick has bastardised it by muttering the lyrics throughout, rendering the words unintelligible and thereby, attenuating the emotional resonance of the lyrics. It almost seemed as if she didn't even know the lyrics. Look, I am all for poetic license and perhaps, she was going for that grungy, mumbling vocalisation that Kurt Cobain built his reputation upon, but a traditional Irish folk song should be sung well,...traditionally.

  • I think you're in the minority on this opinion. But each to his/her own.

  • I thank you for your diplomatic response. Many youtubers would have resorted to attacking me for my opinion. I did not intend to take a crap on the video you had posted. In fact, it was a good video in that, I was able to listen to many different versions of this wonderful song while on a Celtic music binge the other night.

  • @dsggg999: Definitely in the minority. It's a lovely version. Thanks for posting!

  • My goodness girl, you are blessed with such great talent, and Beautiful...voice and looks...

  • You are lovely.

  • hauntingly beautifull

  • I like that tune!!!

  • That must be about the prettiest girl I've ever seen. Good song as well.

  • Megan and the band --- Great work as usual.

  • I think this is the best version of Sally Gardens I have seen on youtube. At first I thought it was too slow,... but now I really like it kind of because of that! And the girl is so pretty, it's amazing! And her voice is so soft and calm, ... congrats to this version!

  • great song!

  • Great, do you have anymore Megan videos?

  • Wow! Thanks for putting this up. "Down by the Salley Gardens" is a favorite I first heard performed by Joannie Madden on Irish Whistle about 10 years ago. Megan and the boys do a splendid job. Good job with the video, too.
