the domestic ferret mostly does not like swimming but its cousin the black footed ferret who is an endangered species loves to swim they are related to otters
my ferret has a strong disliking for water though i haven't dare try putting her near a larger body of it than her bathing bucket she poops at the beginning of most bathes so i have to start her off in there :(
Soo fu*king sry, i just COULDNT SLEEP must read this. once u have started there is no turning back. a little 10 year old girl was raped and murderded in 1945. her body was not found until 1947. then a boy last week read this and did not copy and paste this message. the dead girl appeared in his room haunting him and killed him. if you do not copy and paste this onto 10 vidoes in 30 minutes the dead girl will apear in your room tonight and haunt you and kill you. well you
This IH34RTPS3LOLWTF dude keeps getting publisity, and i wanna set it straight. All ferrets are diffrent. Like dogs. Some dogs hate water, some ferrets do. Fruits and Veggies wont kill a ferret, but too much is like eating to much candy. its like treats to them, IF they like it. maybe they wont, and a dif ferret will. they have personalitys. They are like people too. maybe thjis ferret likes swimming, but wasnt in the mood. Im not sure if some ferrets cant swim, im not an expert, but i know alot
From what I see, this ferret doesn't seem to mind the water. And as long as there is someone to pick it up should it start to flounder, I see no reason not to let the thing swim. Though I have to agree with one of the last comments, the water will dry out it's skin, so go ahead and swim, but not too often!
I don't even watch the health risks of putting my ferrets in a pool. They don't like to swim or be in water at all, and I would make them very scared, upset, and fustrated putting them in a huge pool with no way to get out. I can't imagine being put in a huge lake with really high walls so I can't get out on my own. I would be terrified!! I like to keep my pets happy! please do the same.
@josiewosie22 Oh, I know chemicals can harm them, I just don't worr because I don't ever put them in a situation that would hurt them, and they hate swimming anyway (my ferrets, not all ferrets) So I don't ever make them swim. Keeping my ferrets happy is always funner! And thank you! I'm glad you like them! =)
@Itsuwaru Then again, how you know there's chlorine in this pool? There are also other ways to keep the water clean. And what happens to dogs who swims in a swimming pool that has chlorine? Or little kids? Nothing. Chillax.
even if this were to irritate the ferrets skin, which if the ferret only swims every once in a while in a warm pool and is rinsed after it probably doesnt irritate its skin, all he would need to do is give it an oatmeal and tea-tree bath
@Itsuwaru oh come on dont be so negative, its not like he is going to be there for a while, you people always have to think about the negative side of things and never think of the positive; i meen come on a little bit of chlorine never hurt any thing / one.
water alone isn't bad for a ferret's skin, and shouldn't effect oil output. (oil does not mix with water, so it will not wash off). Shampooing is what dries the skin and makes the oil glands go into hyper drive.
I seriously doubt chlorine is good for them though, and now that poor ferret's going to be ingesting a bunch of it when it cleans itself later. :-/ The chlorine very well could cause skin problems, too.
Ok so I've just logged onto this account for the first time in a long time, to see I have responses to my comments concerning expert tips for ferrets.
A few of those responses I have to say, you need to learn a thing or to, you make me sick. You feed fruit & veg to your ferret? Congratulations on speeding up it's death. Do you realise it's a strict carnivore meaning it's only meant to eat meat?
Did you know domesticated ferret's don't know right from wrong? WE as owners are meant to decide!
@IH34RTPS3LOLWTF I agree with you, ferrets should never eat fruits and veggies. But there are people out there feeding their dogs/cats 'vegan' diets. :( People are under the impression animals are humans.
And my ferret used to swim (he passed away a year ago fromm adernal disease), he loved swimming. But I only put him in the bathtub or a kiddie pool lol. I liked letting him swim as he aged since he wasn't as playful once he reached 7 years old but swimming worked all his muscles. :)
@IH34RTPS3LOLWTF Thank you as a ferret owner myself i feed it Kaytee Forti-Diet Pro Health it is the only brand i trust as it doesn't have a lot of fiber it's 4%,and a lot of fat and proteins which as you probaly know is what they need as carnivores it has 18% fat and 35% protein and wtf letting the ferret swim in chrorine this dude is a dumb ass mother fucker congratulations tho on giving them some expert tips maybe now he won't be such a dumb ass
my ferret saw a fruit loop under my ovan and then tried to get it and when she bit it to pull it out she couldnt get her head out lol so she let go and tried again XDXDXDXDDXDXDXDXXDDD
I googled it i tryd to send the link here but not allow it but i type it here than this is facts under the "swiming skills" its says :"swim is hard for a ferret and they dont really enjoy the exersice.ferrets can be quickly exhausted and drown or become weak and get sucked into a skimmer.." So here is the facts what im saying is the truth..and water is dry their skin too..
@ wereraccoon, and some ferrets like to play with water yes but not swiming in deep water!!jumping in an out and playing with a water where their feet can touch the ground is cool, but most ferrets dont like to swim in deep water like this and if u agree with me what im saying about that guy,i dont know why u talk against me than my english doesnt matter in this case im talking facts ,swiming bad for the ferrets skin too especially cloreine so its a lot of reason why he souldnt do it this way..
@wereracoon..English is not my first language so my english is not proper u shouldnt make a fun about it anyway is not important the important thing is what im saying, its facts and true and most ferrets hate swimming!!!!And the guy in this video do it in the wrong way ,cuz the ferret shell go to swim by itself and shell have a chance to get out whenever he wants to so what he do is ANIMAL ABUSE and hes an ass, everybody agree with me..most ferrets dont like swimming an people pushin it it awful!
I wasn't disagreeing completely. I was just saying not all ferrets hate swimming, though I do admit my little boy is just a great acception. He tends to jump into my pond on his own for very short swims. though he can get out the moment he wishes. And I also agree with you that this owner is a fucking idiot and that this is animal abuse. And I wasn't making fun of your english. English isn't my first language either. but I just hate it when people skip characters or shorten words.
hes not swiming he trying to escape u idiot!!!i breed ferrets,u torturing your animal asshole,if u trow a cat or a hamster in the water they will do the same thing, trying to escape!!!!i hate people like u learn about ferrets before u buy one!!!!
u fckin idiot i breed ferrets, your ferrets are not swiming but try to escape u idiot!!!ferrets dont like swim ,u can drop them into the water a cat too it doesnt mean they swim they try to survive u asshole!!!i hate people like u who donno nothing about animals ,read books before u by a ferret an learn what they like an dont like to do!!!!
You breed ferrets? You sound like a tard. Please learn to write properly. Though I agree on the part that this ferret doesn't like swimming and in this case the owner really is a big fat retard. But it's not true that not all ferrets like swimming. I own two ferrets myself. Though one doesn't like the water, the other enjoys swimming and showering allot. (he keeps on jumping into my little pond in the garden if he gets the chance >.> Which is more troublesome then fun I must say)
The jokes on you. English is my second language. And I wasn't making fun of it. I just have a natural hate for anyone who turns 'you' into 'u' ... It just links in my mind to the kind of myspace highschool kids that always irritate me like shit on the internet
@wereraccoon sorry for my missunderstanding didnt meant to be rude either everything is cool i just hate to see people picking on french trying to speak english
give em (US) a chance were trying ;) have a nice day
Oh lol I didn't even know she was french. I have french friends and have nothing against people making mistakes in other languages. As long as you don't turn it into NOOB language I don't blame anyone xD It just irritates me when people dont even try you know?
@freeagentsgirl619 actually they love the water alot ive read many books about ferrets, gone through the internet, own ferrets and one point would be its close relative is the otter which live both on land and in water
Quick pool romps are okay but try to stay by them, and not let them get away or go toward the filter. Fuzzies can get stressed really quickly while swimming unless they enjoy it, and the ones who do swim a lot slower LOL.
U shouldnt have a Pet u are a bad owner and dont care for thier health. YES ferrets do sometimes love water BUT U FKING IDIOT GOES AND PUTS IT IN CHLORINE DUMBFUCK. Ive had animals including ferrets my whole life and I KNOW FOR A FACT CHLORINE CAN HURT THEM.
with dumba** owners like u no wonder they are almost exinct in the wild. chlorine will kill them or blind them and rose u rock i think u told them and Kirzen you grow a damn brain and get a life u dont know shiz about ferrets
That is just horrible and rude he wants out u suck at owning ferrets and btw they are not made for water dumba** and your super bad ass ferret thinks your an a**wipe
as a ferret owner of four lil dooks i have to say that tolerance for water varies from ferret to ferret. i have a white one and she loves water. the other three brown and blacks either dont care either way or hate it. but they all can swim from the first time they saw water, its instinct. sure chlorine will irritate their skin, but it wont kill them and any irritation would fade just as it does for humans. seriously people, chill out and be more mature.
@dracodragon5 Ferrets react harsher to chemicals than humans, not just because they are smaller, I mean on a 1:1 pound for pound ratio. If a ferret were human sized they would still be affected more.
Plus the chlorine in the pool will remove the oils in their fur and that can dry out its skin.
Rose - Grow a fucking brain. "Fish" are part of the typical diet for mustelids, including ferrets and minks. They aren't the fastest swimmers, but especially for minks, water fowl often make up a good portion of their diet in the wild. They have absolutely no problem being near or in water.
That said, I -will- side with you on the chlorine, which is absolutely terrible for them.
Ok, for one, that chlorine probably stings its eyes. Two, they are not natural swimmers. Three---WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU! NEVER, EVER, EVER, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, PUT A FERRET NEAR CHLORINE! Any pet owner should know this, it makes me sick that the people who get these animals just get them because they are cool. They are a responsability. Dont do it again!
My ferret panics when she hits water but she doesn't try to climb up my arm. Even in an inch of water she just stands there shaking with her arms and legs spread wide to make sure nothing will move her even an inch.
agreed this ferret is swimming for the sides, but he is not panicked. You should see mine in the bath in only an inch of water, climbing up my arms. No, this ferret doesnt love to swim, but he doesnt mind. Chlorinated water, i know nothing about. But I'm not lucky enough to have a pool so i don't need to lol
5. It's a good form of exercise but so is everything else for a ferret, being out of the cage for 4hours a day is plenty of exercise.
6. Water is never good for a ferret because it drys their skin, they need natural oils so bathing once a month is enough, twice a month if they get really dirty.
7. Fruit & veg, cereal, milk & bread, all a NO go, ferrets are mustelids aka strict carnivores, feeding them foods such as fruit & veg will cause pancreatic diseases & other problems
Plenty of ferrets love raisins, but it's not necessarily good for them. Just like my dog loves chocolate cake; that doesn't mean he should have it every night. Fruits on occasion are alright, but as a regular in their diet, it's off limits.
You should be careful with fruits and other non meat treats. You can give it to them on VERY special locations in very small quantities... They aren't build to digest non meat products. It can cause constipation and other problems for the ferret. So if you really want to give them a treat it's better to give them some fresh meat or a small preyanimal that you can get at any exotic pet shop. (Like frozen mice or baby chicks. Ofcourse you feed them to him after defrosting :P)
@IH34RTPS3LOLWTF Fruits and vegetables are GOOD for ferrets! I read a book before I bought mine and a piece of apple or grape are considered as treats.
From everything my 3 vets and 4 breeders have told me Fruits and Veggies are just fine in moderation as treats. s well as a bath one a week is a must. It helps keep the smell down. If you use the wrong kind of SOAP yes it dries their skin but find the proper soap and your ferret will be fine
@IH34RTPS3LOLWTF I think swimming is good stimulation, even if it is just a quick 'dip' in hot summer weather. Plus ferrets tend to consume natural prey whole, including the contents of the stomach and digestive system. So a small amount of plant/seed/fruit/veg matter will not do any harm. I do not feed live prey, I feed ferret food and raw meat, organs etc, but my ferret treats have some veg content, but small amounts are fine.
I actually have a ferret who not only swims, but likes water. Based on the way the ferret was calmly sitting in the guy's arms, i'm saying that the ferret may like water, but was not in the mood for this video.
1. Not all ferrets can swim. my hubby had a few that sunk.
2. My ferret LOVES water. He jumps in the bath with my son, and the shower with me all on his own and swims around in the tub all by himself without me putting him in or forceing him to. So yeah you do know if your animal doesnt like something. If you dont know what your animal likes and doesnt then you dont pay attention.
@IH34RTPS3LOLWTF yes ferrets can all swim but you can see this one took off on its own and it did avoid the other person in the pool choosing instead to explore...thus, this ferret looks like they are enjoying it... preferring to swim rather than seek the other person to 'fish them out'.
cool ferret...... mine would alway sjump in for a swim and help themselves out when they were done.
How old are the kids? If the child is old enough to know better than to play to rough with the ferret, or feed it the wrong food, then it should not be a problem, but ferrets are tough with kids. They too playful for their own good.
We have 2 cute female fuzballs (ferrret) and 8 kids if you include me. The kids are fine with them, but I have to watch my youngest sister (2 years) she doesn't know how to correctly handle them and same gows to the ferret (they like to nip t her toes to get her to play, but it scares my sis).
It aall depends on the child, and the ferret. It really does. And make sure the ferret knows not to bite humans hard or not at all.
my ferret Kahn used to stick his head in the dogs water bowl and look around to see if there were any dog bikkies on the bottom....they are in the same family as otters so i guess its not that surprising...

dude what the fuck are you thinking, dont you see that as soon as its swimming it wants to get the fuck out of the water.
ImTheBestSkater 1 year ago 3
Quick pool romps are okay but try to stay by them, and not let them get away or go toward the filter. Fuzzies can get stressed really quickly while swimming unless they enjoy it, and the ones who do swim a lot slower LOL.

Would be so cool to have seen it from underwater too, the way it was paddling with its little stumpy feet^^

CritterFrenzy 1 year ago
with dumba** owners like u no wonder they are almost exinct in the wild. chlorine will kill them or blind them and rose u rock i think u told them and Kirzen you grow a damn brain and get a life u dont know shiz about ferrets
Avelarea16 1 year ago
That is just horrible and rude he wants out u suck at owning ferrets and btw they are not made for water dumba** and your super bad ass ferret thinks your an a**wipe
Avelarea16 1 year ago
@Avelarea16
They can swim naturally and their colors suggest the live in the forest.
Water alone wouldn't kill them.
ROBLOXBioSniper 1 year ago
dude there a member of the otter family they are made to have the abilitiy to swim
CynderSafeer 1 year ago
as a ferret owner of four lil dooks i have to say that tolerance for water varies from ferret to ferret. i have a white one and she loves water. the other three brown and blacks either dont care either way or hate it. but they all can swim from the first time they saw water, its instinct. sure chlorine will irritate their skin, but it wont kill them and any irritation would fade just as it does for humans. seriously people, chill out and be more mature.

Kirzen 1 year ago 3
What is the music you used in this video? I really like it but can't find the lyrics in a search engine. Thank you so much! :)
melshe9 1 year ago

We used to take our ferrets swimming a lot. They are panicky at first but after a little while they get into it.

agreed this ferret is swimming for the sides, but he is not panicked. You should see mine in the bath in only an inch of water, climbing up my arms. No, this ferret doesnt love to swim, but he doesnt mind. Chlorinated water, i know nothing about. But I'm not lucky enough to have a pool so i don't need to lol

WOW did u have 2 teach the Ferret 2 Swim?
PongPing45 2 years ago
All these points are not aimed at anyone or the author of the video, only to those concerned or get offended by them does it apply:
1. All ferrets can swim, I've never heard of them not being able to.
2. The majority of ferrets do not like water.
3. You cannot decide if a ferret likes water, how would you know because you say it does? Logic?
4. Ferrets will most likely seek to escape water like the one in the video, they go immediately to the sides trying to get out.
IH34RTPS3LOLWTF 2 years ago 95
IH34RTPS3LOLWTF 2 years ago 63
@IH34RTPS3LOLWTF
It also same strait to the side and followed the edge trying to get out. He would have found the stairs and got out if left in long enough.
Rayzkevin 1 year ago
@IH34RTPS3LOLWTF um then why do Ferret treats have fruit in them? mine loves raisins.
txsbrtndr 1 year ago
@txsbrtndr
Plenty of ferrets love raisins, but it's not necessarily good for them. Just like my dog loves chocolate cake; that doesn't mean he should have it every night. Fruits on occasion are alright, but as a regular in their diet, it's off limits.
FoxSquaredComplex 1 year ago
@txsbrtndr
Ofcourse you feed them to him after defrosting :P)
wereraccoon 1 year ago
@IH34RTPS3LOLWTF Fruits and vegetables are GOOD for ferrets! I read a book before I bought mine and a piece of apple or grape are considered as treats.
xinstantkiwiiex 1 year ago
@xinstantkiwiiex Key word is *treats*. Just like ice cream and cake is a treat for a human, does not mean it is good for them.
Avalik 1 year ago
@IH34RTPS3LOLWTF
From everything my 3 vets and 4 breeders have told me Fruits and Veggies are just fine in moderation as treats. s well as a bath one a week is a must. It helps keep the smell down. If you use the wrong kind of SOAP yes it dries their skin but find the proper soap and your ferret will be fine
kryscurr 1 year ago
@IH34RTPS3LOLWTF I think swimming is good stimulation, even if it is just a quick 'dip' in hot summer weather. Plus ferrets tend to consume natural prey whole, including the contents of the stomach and digestive system. So a small amount of plant/seed/fruit/veg matter will not do any harm. I do not feed live prey, I feed ferret food and raw meat, organs etc, but my ferret treats have some veg content, but small amounts are fine.
kaeso100 1 year ago
@IH34RTPS3LOLWTF its not the water that irritates them, it the shampoo. (Unless it's chlorine)
omgILOVE2D 1 year ago
@IH34RTPS3LOLWTF \
I actually have a ferret who not only swims, but likes water. Based on the way the ferret was calmly sitting in the guy's arms, i'm saying that the ferret may like water, but was not in the mood for this video.
CreativeMast3rmind 1 year ago
@IH34RTPS3LOLWTF
If you dont know what your animal likes and doesnt then you dont pay attention.
kryscurr 1 year ago 12
@kryscurr Bathing them and getting them wet too much isnt good for their fur
CJBountyHunter 8 months ago
@IH34RTPS3LOLWTF yes ferrets can all swim but you can see this one took off on its own and it did avoid the other person in the pool choosing instead to explore...thus, this ferret looks like they are enjoying it... preferring to swim rather than seek the other person to 'fish them out'.
cool ferret...... mine would alway sjump in for a swim and help themselves out when they were done.

do ferrets get along with kids ? plz msg me back i need 2 know
00Nirvash 2 years ago
How old are the kids? If the child is old enough to know better than to play to rough with the ferret, or feed it the wrong food, then it should not be a problem, but ferrets are tough with kids. They too playful for their own good.
heckshotstuff1 2 years ago
We have 2 cute female fuzballs (ferrret) and 8 kids if you include me. The kids are fine with them, but I have to watch my youngest sister (2 years) she doesn't know how to correctly handle them and same gows to the ferret (they like to nip t her toes to get her to play, but it scares my sis).
It aall depends on the child, and the ferret. It really does. And make sure the ferret knows not to bite humans hard or not at all.
The best to you!!! =D
