i really love this Part 1 and 2!! Brings back alot of memories. Use to fly North Central all the time. I am know a flight attendant for American Airlines. the Convair 580 is my all time favorite aircraft. Thanks.
Har. The Convairs were the "Big" aircraft when I was growing up in Grand Rapids, MI. The first NC aircraft I experienced was a DC-3 no less, taxing around the ramp with my Uncle who was a mechanic for them at the time.
Walking up that tilted center aisle to the cockpit was bizarre to be sure!
The DC-9's didn't come all that often until later.
I've never been on North Central but admired them since I was a kid. I remember watching North Central planes come and go at O'Hare from a TWA lounge (waiting to catch our next flight )overlooking the North Central and Delta gates. Those CV580s looked pretty cool.
I see Capt Jerry Ferrel and I believe Capt Evans in the video. Also see Ted Larsen and Jan Peterson in Flight Control...and yes, lots of North Central people will be working for Delta.
Herman the duck rules! I lived near Mitchell Field in Milwaukee as a young boy in the early 70's & I had a JC Penny's radio with an aircraft band on it. I would spend warm summer evenings in the backyard with binoculars & my radio tuned to the Mitchell Field frequencies & watch for arriving & departing aircraft. I remember the Convair 580's very well. North Central was always my favorite airline (loved the duck) & I still remembered the words to the North Central jingle!
OMG, should have watched the whole thing first. $8 million for a high-tech punch card computer system (LOL). My PC probably has as much computing power...thanks for posting. Used to love the duck!
I love the opening music, it's so Mary Tyler Moore show sounding!!!!

Cool video, my dad started with North Central, Republic, and retired with Northwest. He was a line maintenance manager out of O'Hare.

This is back at a time when the CEOs knew how to run the Airline Industry .Decades before the idea of sell out was on the table.

What was the callsign for North Central? Just "north central" or something else like "herman"?
Have a good day.

I'm so addicted to this video and part two. It must be something about the song. This is the way flying and service should be.

Do any orignal North Central employees now work at Delta?

Yes, I am in contact and friends with ONE that I know of. I'm sure there's more though. She's started in the GO at MSP.
