The original word is chug. The cognate verb means "to draw a circle." The noun means horizon -- circle which defines the edge of your vision. It is extremely interpretive to nderstand the term as orb or sphere. In Hebrew aslo have similar word Dur but it's to show object from FOV (as if you see it from outside). The word chug show that you are inside the Dur.

If you are going to insult GOD based entirely on some technicalities in the Bible, at least go back to the original hebrew and look up the words that were translated into those things. The idea Columbus thought the earth was flat is an urban myth because an author put it in a book to make the story seem more exciting. and sailors were aware of it as the stars moved as you say.

@rjr1990 Yeah, a circle not a sphere. And if you read the ENTIRE verse, not just the little part that you like you will see that they CLEARLY believe the earth to be flat. For exemple they state that the earth has foundations and that god can look at all his people while sitting (in his throne lol) above the earth, which is impossible if the earth is a sphere. Now Isaiah states a little later that god would wrap us up like a BALL (indicating that we weren't one already!)

@Mach2411 I have to comment about Bible violence........The New Testament was Jesus teachings and Christianity came after Jesus. The OT was attached to the Bible and is part of the Bible. It is more like story telling and everything has to do with Jews... yes it has a lot of violence in it but it is not Jesus teaching. Jesus only teached about love one another, do the right thing etc...................there is not even one violence in Jesus teachings.....

I do believe Jesus was the only son of God, took human form and came to this word in order to sacrifice himself for our sins so that we can live sinless life with Jesus name..if u read the Bible carefully in the begining of the creation it talks about we...never I alone.....So God wasn't alone....I do believe and we all believe God capable of doing anything he wants, it is not hard for God to bring Jesus in human form from a virgin....A lot of Gods work is behind our understanding....

It doesnt mean "sphere", which is exactly what the earth is. How do you know four corners means that? What about the pillars the hold up earth? Is that symbolic to? Or the fermiment above the earth in which the stars are placed?
One must state this fact before going any further. The knowledge of the masses at the time these statements were made. Is less, than the knowledge of today? If I were to say to you that these people were scattered to the four corners of the EARTH today you Knowing the EARTH is round would consider this as a blanket statement. Thus meaning such as in the case of hurricane Katrina the people were widely dispersed from the area they had previously been.
So for you to pull statements out of the BIBLE and say that the BIBLE is wrong due to the language used at the time. And still to this day. Means that they were stating the world is flat is false.

people don't want to believe the bible, so they take the verse out of concept. The four corners of the earth are north, south, east, west. You left out a verse in your video that's equally interesting: Isaiah 40:22 - "It is he who sits above the circle of the Earth" which seems to suggest that the earth is spherical. It might be a good idea to include this whichever side of the debate you choose to defend because it's well known. Isn't it most likely that ALL religious books are flawed? If nothing else, any large book with numerous authors is going to seem to have some contradictions due to various expressions, languages & context.
As well, ends of the Earth could mean in terms of atmosphere, since it doesn't elaborate what "ends" could apply to, in terms of the horizontial or vertical. And lastly, if we're talking in terms of the SON OF GOD and the person who SCREWED THE WORLD over, I don't think physical limitations apply anymore. Don't take everything too seriously, or people can do the reverse on the Qur'an and things really suck because somehow a war begins over it. Go figure.

Isaiah 40:22 refers to "the circle of the earth," or in the Italian translation, globo. The Hebrew is Khug = spherical or roundness. Even if the translation "circle" is adhered to, think about Neil Armstrong in space--to him the spherical earth would have appeared circular regardless of which direction he viewed it from.

The idea Columbus thought the earth was flat is an urban myth because an author put it in a book to make the story seem more exciting. and sailors were aware of it as the stars moved as you say.

@rjr1990 Yeah, a circle not a sphere. And if you read the ENTIRE verse, not just the little part that you like you will see that they CLEARLY believe the earth to be flat. For exemple they state that the earth has foundations and that god can look at all his people while sitting (in his throne lol) above the earth, which is impossible if the earth is a sphere. Now Isaiah states a little later that god would wrap us up like a BALL (indicating that we weren't one already!)

@Mach2411 I have to comment about Bible violence........The New Testament was Jesus teachings and Christianity came after Jesus. The OT was attached to the Bible and is part of the Bible. It is more like story telling and everything has to do with Jews... yes it has a lot of violence in it but it is not Jesus teaching. Jesus only teached about love one another, do the right thing etc...................there is not even one violence in Jesus teachings.....

But yes, ppl do use the Quran for violence but if you look closely, it's a very very very small minority and they are always very poor and uneducated. that the earth is round is a very old concept. The early church and the late church almost all knew that the earth was round. Only some atheist didn't believe the earth was round. But in general people knew due to math that the earth was round.

Verse 14 of the same chapter says that the earth "takes shape like clay under a seal" Clay flattens out under a seal, not made into a sphere. Daniel 4:10-11 also speaks of a flat earth. When Satan tempted Jesus in Mattew 4, verse 8 implies that author thought the earth to be flat. There is no mountain high enough to see around the entire sphere of the earth, it's impossible.

Everyone thought the earth was round throughout history. We can look up at the moon and sun and see that the earth is also most likely round. However the hebrew word for circle is "chuwg". It doesnt mean "sphere", which is exactly what the earth is. If he wanted to be clearer he should have used the word "duwr" which means ball.Evidently people back then believed the earth to be circular but also flat, much like a CD or old vinyl record.

One must state this fact before going any further. The knowledge of the masses at the time these statements were made. Is less, than the knowledge of today? If I were to say to you that these people were scattered to the four corners of the EARTH today you Knowing the EARTH is round would consider this as a blanket statement. Thus meaning such as in the case of hurricane Katrina the people were widely dispersed from the area they had previously been.

This was when the devil was trying to tempt Jesus by offering Him the inheritance of the whole world. When in fact when He accomplished what He did, He inherited all of heaven, and the world, and the universe. It is like having a sexual thought in your head, you have a vision of a girl, and you want that girl. That is the devil putting a vision in your head trying to tempt you. Jesus probably just had a vision of owning all the kingdoms on the earth and was tempted in that same way.

This does not mean that it is flat. It could mean all the different regions of Earth. There is absolutely no evidence to know that the bible meant flat or spherical. It doesn't even matter because the bible was not made to be a science book, but a spiritual book.

You left out a verse in your video that's equally interesting: Isaiah 40:22 - "It is he who sits above the circle of the Earth" which seems to suggest that the earth is spherical. It might be a good idea to include this whichever side of the debate you choose to defend because it's well known. Isn't it most likely that ALL religious books are flawed? If nothing else, any large book with numerous authors is going to seem to have some contradictions due to various expressions, languages & context.

As well, ends of the Earth could mean in terms of atmosphere, since it doesn't elaborate what "ends" could apply to, in terms of the horizontial or vertical. And lastly, if we're talking in terms of the SON OF GOD and the person who SCREWED THE WORLD over, I don't think physical limitations apply anymore. Don't take everything too seriously, or people can do the reverse on the Qur'an and things really suck because somehow a war begins over it. Go figure.
