While I am not getting this for gaming and know that this isn't for gaming, is there any way you can tell me how it performed with a lot of stuff on the screen? How well it performed in WC3 with a lot of units on screen. Thanks a lot.
Sorry for the delay.... Its not bad multi tasking, but the issue is with the load times for programs. The SSD is slow, but the FSB is still 533mhz, so once things get off the HD (onto the RAM) it runs well. WCIII ran fine with multiple units. I was running battlenet games with my 2 buddys and accept for a few skipped frames here and there, it was efficient.
there is a external dvd burner clearly pictured in the video... OR you can use a program like power ISO or Alchol 120% to mount disk images you make on another machine... Good luck!
That's good... The 8gb is a bad choice... I wouldn't buy the 120, because I refuse to settle with a moving drive, but the SSD on the 8gb on the Aspire One is crazy slow... Good Luck!
i hope you get one cause this 120 good enough for me it has a 1gbddr2 ram and it can play gta4 no prblem and tomb radier i am going to try call of uty 4 and see how it runs
I'm a hardware junky.. lol... I've maxxed out my boot speeds on moving drives, so the next step is SSD (solid state disk) I bought this because for $329 I couldn't go wrong, but once it was gone I was out $100! The 120gb is a good by for a average user, but I'm looking for certain attributes in a netbook. As you have seen in my previous posts my next one is the Asus Eee PC 1000 40g... Cant wait!
i didnt say i am plaing gta4 there a guy on youtbe put a video of him playing gta 4 and i know of the one with gta3 so i know what i am talking abu gta4 is with nikko belic i played gta4 befor an i beat gta 3,vice,sanandreas,vicy city stories
no idea... Google that sh** man, I'm not going to do the research for you...AND to further elaborate on my last message, the Asus Eee n10 series now has one with a 256mg independent graphics card; Great for Auto Cad!
Good to know. I have heard that the touch pad/buttons were a drawback... I prefer a bluetooth mouse anywayz, and when I use the touch pad I'll make it a point to use the tap rather than the buttons... Thanks!
So you have owned one? Among the providers that make netbooks under $500 with SSD's, Asus has the best reputation. Despite how they look or feel, the hardware used in their systems are the best and fastest available... I would take a toyota with bad fit/finish over a Kia any day... lol... I don't know everything, far from it, but I use Asus for every desktop I build (allot!!) and have zero complaints. I admit that I am biased, but its based on personal experience and general reputation.
Maybe, Just go for something better... Eee Pc 1000; bigger screen, way faster 40gig SSD, un-cramped keyboard, Asus quality (Acer is the 'budget brand' and their rep shows it)... Its only $100 more for the 1000, and if your budget allows you could check out the s101 too, very nice... Good Luck!
The EEE Pc 901 (not 900 or 701) and 1000 are the correct choices... Acer has a rep for bad hardware, but Asus is one of the best selling names in the industry... Use Google Shopping to find the EEE Pc's and find whatever user reviews you want via the sales sites... Definitly the right choice in my opinion...
No that one should perform better, but not as well as a Nice SSD system... The Standard HD will also drain the under 3 hour battery life on it faster... So they make the 6-cell version, BUT that version is almost as much as the BETTER EEE Pc, so why not go with the better product? The XP versions are more than OK for average 'Lite' user and enthusiast if you can deal with the battery life and price point.
Don't buy this one unless you like the linux OS... The SSD is crazy slow, it makes windows flake out here and there. It is tolerable, but just spend another $100ish and get the XP version, or Get an Asus EEE Pc with any SSD but the 16gb... Good Luck!
The SSD is the one you want to use, the SD is the card on the side... SSD = Solid State Disk (internal) SD = Secure Digital (expanded, camera memory)
SD is slower than SSD, but the SSD in this model is slow compared to most other disks. Mine is not modded, I simply stripped XP of near everything... You can find Forums on how to do this with nlite, or (what I did) make one, test it, adjust, test, etc. I made about 9 XP disks, three times from scratch with 2-3 revisions each time...Hard work!
No, windows XP will rarely need greater than 256mg none the less 512mg to run, unless your an idiot that insistes on running 15 startup programs and 20 services for no reason.
I mapped My Documents to the 8gb sd for storage. That leaves the full 8gb SSD for programs & windows. You do not want to run games/programs off the SD becuase of the slow speed, just storage.
You can find forums on NLite'ing XP Pro, mostly for the EEE PC. Do Not intigrate drivers on this one though, doesnt work right
I built a custom copy of XP Pro that runs better but it still lags here and there... The problem is the POS Solid State Disk they used to make this one so cheap. There are two popular fixes, both void your warantee; You use an adaptor to get a Trancend Ultra fast (for CF) compact flash card for the drive, OR use an adaptor to run an 1/8" HD...
If you google "Aspire One SSD Replace Mod" or repair mod, or whatever, you find walkthroughs on installing somthing diffrent.
$329 for laptop, $15 for the mouse, $25 for the dvd burner, $25 for the dvd case, and $20 for the 8gb SD card...
Sooo, about $415+shipping... Not worth it, get the ASUS Eee Pc 901. It will add up to be about $100 more, but you dont need the 8gb SD card, the battery lasts 7+ hours, AND the SSD is much, MUCH faster...
While I am not getting this for gaming and know that this isn't for gaming, is there any way you can tell me how it performed with a lot of stuff on the screen? How well it performed in WC3 with a lot of units on screen. Thanks a lot.
