  • I'd say for practical purposes from a spectator standpoint, it's hard to tell unless you're actually counting and watching closely. The only time on1 and on2 make a real difference is when you're doing the basic, in which case on2 basic step looks a lot cooler.

  • I LOVE salsa on 1 ! Im actually annoyed that I live in NYC and so many classes here teach on 2! The REAL dancers here can do both, which is great! I like certain elements of 2, so I use them while I dance on 1. Since Salsa on 1 is the ORIGINAL, basic salsa step, everyone should learn that first! Its easier to learn, and it looks more natural and soulful, while on 2 looks too westernized and mechanical...

  • I love dancing salsa so much, it breaks my heart! I dont mind if its on 1 or on 2, I just wanna dance, and I dont really care! :D

At the moment I am learning in on 2, but I am willing to learn on 1 as well..

    Salsa class tonight...yeeaaah! :D

  • I call for a manhunt for anyone dancing Salsa on 1 LOL. Power to on 2 people out there. Do you know what makes on 2 more sexy? It's the short latency between the steps that creates the aesthetic dancing rythm. On 1 is boring. It's like; 1,2,3 - 5,6,7 step on the Pizza pan, & step out the Pizza pan etc... LOL. On 2 is like; "mmm step back dude, now check out that chick" 2,3 - 6,7 that's what makes it cool :>)

  • I dance on 1 but now will be learning on 2. I feel that dancing either on 1 or 2 is about how much fun you can have on the dance floor. love salsa!

  • @william2dz I think you have a great plan

  • On1 of course, i dance both but LA style is the best :)

  • whats the name of the second song????? anyone know???

  • on 2 looks better more graceful

  • i like the performance... as for the controversy? i started dancing on 1 because i naturally hear the beat that way but now i also dance on 2 and it's amazing in its own way.. if everyone learned both it make for an interesting evolution in salsa

  • @korreck86 I totally agree!

  • Wow! Finally a video where I see the difference! and now I can tell that I've always danced on1 and I have no idea how to dance on2 or if I ever did on2 I never noticed. I was born and raised in Peru and we just dance to the rythm and improvise steps and turns as it comes. I was really confused when I found out that there was more to dancing salsa than I knew, but this video showed me the big difference and now I need to get myself in a salsa school and learn to dance on2 and even get better on1

  • Excelente ............

  • Whats the name of the song for the first group its incredible!\\

  • nice performance

  • Actually is all about how u interpret the music. Some songs are meant to be dance On1 and some On2.

  • @lukjr07 Actually I couldn't agree more.

  • well done. they've captured the essence of both style.

  • On1, On2... Who cares?? Salsa is HOT!! LOL Honestly, from MY viewing perspective, I'd say On1 "looks" more to the beat, but I like how On2 is against the beat.

  • @cwynn6 interesting observation but if On2 breaks on the 2nd beat & the clave starts on the 2nd beat of a song doesn't that make On2 more on beat or more with the beat? just asking.

  • The clave can be a 2/3 clave or a 3/2 clave. 80% of the songs out there are a 2/3 clave. So if you dance on 1 you might start it on the 3 side of the 3/2 clave and if you dance on 2 you could dance on the 2 side of the 2/3 clave. But then there is also the Cuban style that dances on the 3 although they also can do 1 or 2. Really I think if you are truly a dancer you should familiarize yourself with all styles that was you are able to adjust and really dance to the music.

  • @Khalil21406 how bout on clave wouldn't that be even more on the beat besides most hits or cortes in salsa happen on 1

  • @Khalil21406 I would have to say that it"s a bit tricky but most people ignore that both dances consist of 8 counts which makes them both on beat. How one manipulates those beats is all subject to opinion! If you ask me, I'd have to say that technically both dances are on 1... in my opinion, given the fact they both start on the first beat which is one. Both have forward, and backward rocks with the same leg so it seems that one dance is trying harder to be different but can only seem different.

  • @TheTruthAA so true. this imagined controversy is like a old star trek storyline where one race had their left half of the face white & their right half black & were at war with the race that had their left half of the face black & the right white. I personally think it's where your dancing skill level is...

  • help me out here i cannot see the difference

  • Love both, but on1 seems much more fun! (Heck mabye I am just bias..)

That being said, I am taking on2 class and it is fun too...

I do know that to be a great dancer you have to be able to do both equally well, I have on2 dancer dancing on1 and they look funny...(The same thing for most on1 dancer trying to dance on2)

I bet Francisco vasquez can dance both on1 and on2. The same thinking can be said about Eddie Torrez. (sp?)

    Love both dancers though..

  • "Francisco Vasquez (Performing at Ocean Drive in Maryland)" my boy Orlando Machuca Jr just posted it. Francisco is an awesome dude & dance well on1 & on2 but it's his spins that separate him fm the rest! He's dancing with girls that dance on both also. Think you will like the performance & watch how pple react to his spins.

  • NICE ONE... :D

  • i really dont see the big deal...nor did i see a big difference in steps...sigh...sumone help me out here...lol

  • There isn't a big deal. It's like religion which one will you choose? The difference is the level you want to take it to. Way more on1 dancers in the world than on2 . It's a preference, I personally think on2 people are more fanatical and take learning to another level at least that is MY experience.

  • @Carlitta87 in my opinion the real cotroversy is social dancer vs dancer with tranning, this team r social dancers so they make both styles look similar and on my opinion horrible

search for videos, of Luis Aguilar and Oliver Pineda salsa on 2 (Very easy going very nice footwork no to many lifts and tricks but very clean Dancing)or alfonso caldera charlene Rose, Alex da Silva, Liz Lira, Alien ramirez Salsa on 1 ( tricks , lifts , deeps, multiple turns open positions, very Showy)

  • Totally agree with you bro... but less then horrible.

  • ON2

  • I think both the ON1 & ON2 dancers looked & danced great. My personal observation is that the ON2 dancers seemed smoother and in control while the ON1 dancers seem to try to dance a little over the top. Either way great choreography

  • Controversy is only created by very tiny, low-class minds. Just feel the rhythm and dance what you like. Dance both!!! Why limit yourself? One is not better than the other.

  • Uhmmm, yes it is! That's what losers say, bud!

    I'm just saying....

  • I dance both, I can feel the music either way! if you know how to listen to it and work with the beats so I like the choreograhy and on this video on 1 looks better than on 2, I guess the music and the performers made it look better but once again I really like the coreography.

  • Viva L.A!!!!

  • I have learned On1 and I struggle to see the difference in the video....both groups were wonderful though!

  • I FREAKING love this prsentation!! LOVE it! I favored it and my rate is 10 BUT I can only hit 5 stars!!! KUDOS!!! Although I dance on2 I admire both styles!!!

  • By the way I loved it!!!

  • Whether On1 or On2, the object of the game is to have fun and to prove to others that's all about the love of what we do. We need to learn to be diverse in every way.

  • Love the video! Just shamed of myself... I'm from NY and can't salsa on 2.... I've tried, but always make my lead mad @ me.... lol

  • cada uno la baila como quiera

pero no me van a negar que se siente mejor en 2

  • what is the name of the song they dance on 1 please?

  • Sonora Ponceña - Oh Mayi

  • I LOVE THE STATEMENT!!! Great job!!! You DEFINITELY NEED TO POST THIS ON SalsaDynastyDOTcom....you HAVE to!!! It's an incredible statement...I love it. Post it...promise, you'll get a lot of review and feedback!!!!

  • thanks for the comments but fyi the music was not edited right with the video

  • nice!!!!!

  • good concept and routine...But who was dancing on2?

The first grouped dance on 1 1/2 or something with a mambo-like flava while the other danceed with a distinct L.A. style on1 ...The concept of the routine was good and the routine was nice but would have hit the mark if the first group had hit the on2 mark

just keepin it real...when real goes wrong

  • they were a little bit fast on the 2, but

not by much. just round off the 1.5=2

    they demonstrated both styles well.

the concept was on1 vs on2...

  • LMAO...yeah, the first group was sorta on 1 1/2, huh? It's all good cause they got the point through, coexistence.LOL. I find myself dancing on 1, but a performance always looks more graceful on 2...ahhh...how about we all dance on 8 and call it a wrap?

  • As long as you respect the beat and move those shoulders and hips - Its all good baby!!

  • Totally agree. The beat must be respected, I see to many people dancing OOT (Out of time). They start on1, don't acknowledge the 4 or 8 and end up never dancing on the beat they intented to (on1 or on2)

  • On1 On2 " a, b,c". Just do whatever feels right :)

  • Interesting idea and nice performance.
