To answer a couple of questions -- Duke was a #1 seed, Cal was a #8 seed.

And Kidd was never "known" as a defensive stopper or a primary scorer when he was at Cal. He was a pass-first point guard in an uptempo offense, not to mention an excellent rebounder and help defender.

Kidd was supposed to be a defensive specialist....Hurley had 32 points on him....his career high. Lamond Murray carried Cal in his game and Kidd gets all the credit for it. Go back and check your stat sheet..I think Kidd had 11 points... Jason has always been a great assist man and competitor, but Hurley was a better PG...

Cal is ok. They beat Louisville. And yes, Cal is far better than Texas because Texas sucked this year in Basketball. Duke is ok. They beat Wake Forest, North Carolina twice, Arkansas-PB, Maryland, Clemson, Cal, Purdue, and Baylor. I know Duke is far better than Texas.

A Tar Heel fan I am, this is one of my favorite non Tar Heel games ever. I remember California being way ahead & all of a sudden Duke goes on a tear & leads. I became angry enough to break my Panasonic 'Walkman.' I was delirious when Jason Kidd hit the shot. To this day I root for Jason Kidd in the NBA because of this game.

Nobody likes to mention that Hurley had 32 (his career high) versus Kidd. Kidd wasn't even close. Hurley left college with two rings and 3 our of 4 years in the final game.  Kid has nothing in college or pros.

If you check the stats of most players on Duke for this game, Hurley was the only one that showed up to play. He had 32 points, his career high, so Jason Kidd didn't dominate him. Besides, how many championship games did Kidd ever play in??? I like Kidd, but Hurley could have succeeded in the pros barring that accident (and the fact that he played for the kings). Remember the dream team had to put Jordan on him cause he was abusing all the other guards...

As far as this game goes, Jason didn't dominate Hurley, but he was responsible for an underdog Cal squad upsetting one of Duke's greatest teams. Nearly 15 years later, Jason is closing in on 100 triple doubles. How about those stats?

Not taking anything away from Jason as he hit a big shot at the end, but Hurley carried Duke in that game. Back to back Eastern Conference Championships with the NETS. Should've been the 2003 MVP...and he didn't do a face plant off of a motorcycle like that overrated prick Bobby Hurley. The only reason he gets slurped is because he is white. Same thing for Jason Williams circa 1999 and most any other Duke PG's (wojo, collins, etc.). Duke gets preferential treatment and has since 1991...with the exception of Hill and Brand, all of their NOTABLE players have been busts (Boozer improved after leaving).
