Just stumbled upon this from a review on Discogs. As a fan of early Numan (Tubeway Army punk era - Telekon) I have to admit I have never really listened to this mid-80's material.
The reason? I hate the bombastic sound of the mid-80's!
However, while this song has the obligatory massive snare drums, I really like it!
Is The Fury worth investigating, keeping in mind that other mid 80's trait I hate: saxophones?
@Jarren202 Having absorbed everything I could get my hands on of the early stuff and wishing there was some say to embed the stuff directly on my brain I was skeptical of the mid 80's stuff as well. I found The Fury to be an OK album and like to use it to "cleanse the palate" now and then
The intro to this track is sampled from the movie Blade Runner. There are also other samples from Blade Runner in this song. I just thought it interesting and worth a mention.
If anyone ever felt the need to call out the dogs, you merely have to send it above.....and believe me THEY are called in remarkable ways.
..Don't believe me, just look back from time to tmie on your lives and notice what happened to those terrible moments....and if it didn't satisfy I just do not know WHAT WILL.
Just wait and see....sit back and it usually falls in the same tracks for all to see.
Wasn't there another video of this that actually had footage from Blade Runner? (that's what I remember...don't recall ever seeing this one at the time)
i remember this album from 85.i was pretty chuffed to be buying it.i did not think the image was that bad cos it contrasted not only with the others but with the flavour of the music on the fury album itself.
Gary 007 heehee... pity he drove a bloody yank corvette and not the Aston Martin he deserved.
Great track, very industrial and ahead for its time. Sure, the artwork on the cover of The Fury is very Miami Vice 80's awful but the sounds inside are of a meaner, stronger, and "f**k you critics" Gary.
Despite another ill timed image the Fury tour was pretty good. The song is too tinny to past the test of time but at least it has an anthem and is better than your fascination and, dare I say it, miracles. There was some decent track on the Fury LP as well.
Numan is a genius!!! Remember, there is absolutely nothing wrong with Synthesizers. That instrument was the nucleus for New Romantic. Can you imagine if Nick Rhodes were to play with Tubeway Army!
I'm a slogan, an old story, a disease, never again, look at me, I'm shakin, I don't know, if I can move...
Love those lyrics... If white hot heat had a sound, this is what it would literally sound like. I love everything Numan has created except for Machine and Soul. That album had only one song I liked... Generate
The Fury was an incredible album, preceded shortly on the US club circuit with the single "Change your Mind." So, except for the ludicrously-overplayed "Cars", this song and The Fury in general were the first tastes we in the states got of Gary, and his genius, and man, am I grateful for it! I've been a fan ever since.
God i remember wearing the white suit with the red tie..lol.I even bought him all these red and white roses!!He said thanks and i got to watch his sound check....
I went to the fury tour too in Birmingham ,cardiff and Hammersmith.I even made it the official programe too..lol.I looked like a demented diesel dyke on crack in a red shirt and white trousers with braces..lol
I remember when I saw The Fury album cover and thought what on earth is Gary Numan thinking? That white suit makes him look like a poor imitation of Bryan Ferry, even though the sound leans more towards dark industrial. The song isn't the worst he put out but certainly far from his best.
I agree, it was a pretty cheesy look. Not that the "Warriors" look or "Berserker" looks did much for him either. But this look just doesn't go with the music IMO.
thumbs up if you came here from my little porno: friendship with benefits
