he should cut his hair: his aesthetic judgement gets compromised with such a look. he looks like an ugly woman dressed like a man. long hair is for heavy-metal fans.
Unfortunately, it is the nature of human-beings to rate talent partially based on prejudiced opinions. So you are right in that way. But I don't think long hair is solely for heavy-metal fans. Benjamin Franklin had long hair, was he a cannibal corpse fan?
@obeyobeysilichxxx True! He could as well be a metal fan (I agree with you.) I was just trying to say that we can't judge someone's interests (eg.music) by looking at their appearance (eg. hair).
Lol, what a dick. I can think of a large number of musicians, heavy metal and other wise, with hair that long. And you say heavy-metal in such a derogatory way as well. There are many, many, musicians considered heavy-metal who are extremely talented at what they do. You just sound like a judgemental ass.
@metalhead492 You didn't get my point and misinterpreted my conclusion. I am not being judgmental since I didn't give my opinion. I was just illustrating the point that prejudice can distort fact. I enjoy both metal and classical music and I too think that there are many many gifted metal (and non-metal) musicians and I admire them for their effort.
@metalhead492 hahaha. 9 months of thinking! I am glad that you didn't call me a dick this time! I appreciate your sincere comment. It's always good to have your feed back.
What can I say? I never will get as far as you already are.For my taste it could have some more expression here and there. But I like the sensitivety and respectfulness. Making music, just like many other important things in life should be art and you have it in you. It will get better and better while you mature.
I agree very much with the general criticisms offered by Viktor and Erwin here. What I would add is...it feels like you're playing music sensitively and respectfully with Beauty... But as I learned as a young man from the girls that loved me...real lovemaking is not often pretty or respectful....but the force and conviction of the behavior is what convinces...not the respectability or suaveness of your moves. I feel that your musicality is solid...but not your expression.
Without getting into details - just a couple hints: Chopin's melodic line can sing (a la Bellini or a la Slavic), but also can *speak* with full spectrum of intonations. Phrases can end with "?" or "..." or "!" *Singing* is always an essence, but try to *speak* with punctuation. Good luck!
I think it will make sense if I give a short critique here, that is, if Suzette would be so kind to send it to Maurice?
- In general good tempo, but it is really "languido e rubato"? How can you give it more this character without changing the tempo that you have? Try to play it diffently, with different rubato, when the theme is repeated in bar 25.
- I think you have to think more about the direction and shaping of the phrases, about the melodic curve, instead of bringing out "special" harmonies. Long notes should be played louder, especially from the a tempo in bar 51. You don't play the fz in the left hand. The sostenuto part is beautiful.
The climax starting at bar 69 is great, but I think you should go back in dynamics much earlier. The religioso section is full of crescendi and decrescendi but I don't hear them; it sounds a little flat and shapeless because of that. From bar 121 again almost all the long notes with fz are not brought out enough.
The last G-major chord is not very clear, bass is too loud, there's a crescendo towards it, it is should come as a salvation!
