If you like this song (& Faron) search YouTube for Waylon Jennings & Friends 4 . Merle Kilgore tells a funny story how he & Mack Vickery wrote it. It is the second song in the video.
There are also videos 1,2,3 & 5 that you may enjoy.
That's Jimmy Crawford on the steel. For sure. Lloyd Green did ALL of Faron's studio work, but Jernigan and Crawford and Basore played for him on the road.
One of my fave Faron numbers, also. I currently do this one in my band, The Starline Rhythm Boys. Faron was the best in his day - such a sad end to this life. Winkin' an' singin' honky-tonk. And always a killer band. Cool that Arliss Scott's bro wrote in here. Dicky Overby on steel? Anyway, I can't get enough of this clip.
@starboydc I don't think that is Dicky on steel, a little too early I think he was playing for Faron in the mid to late 70's. Can't seem to get a good clear view but I think it's JImmie Crawford on steel and fairly sure that's Floyd Crammer on piano.
well said... I hope he is singin to my Mom, he was one of her favs... mine too... I miss him, damn shame what happened to Faron... what a FINE singer, entertainer, Class Act and a LQQKER he was WOW... RIP Faron...
he was the greatest for country fans. He told the story of his life through his songs and it was his wife that destroyed him. He wanted her to be a part of him but it didn't work out that way so he was driven to suicide. Just listen to his songs and it will tell you his story.
His style and song selection were absolutely great. His voice got better and better as he grew older. I for one miss him and there is no doubt he set a standard that is not being met today for country enterainers. He was a true entertainer, and a singer songsmith that we just do not have today. Come on Country Music find us another Faron Young versus what is on the music scene today. It just ain't country today. We country fans want country music to return to the Faron Young style.
I forgot about that song. That was Faron's? My favorite was "You're still mine." I think that was the flip side of "I got 5 dollars and it's Saturday night."
Faron actually sounded better in person than on record. His live performances were great! He never did a song the same way twice with his differing vocal inflections. That's part of what made him so special. Thanks for posting this.

My favourite Faron song. Oh how i loved him. Best country singer ever. I had the honour of being on stage with him in Peterborough in the late 70s.
