  • Thumbs up if you were assigned to watch this as a homework assignment. :P

  • greetings from a Chilean Anthropologist!

  • I still don't get, what's the point of things that anthropologists do?

  • @minus30outside Anthropologists try to understand the social life of humans from a cultural perspective.

  • I love anthropology-cultural, linguistics, and archaeology. I'd like to ask anyone: Couldn't anthropologists work for a magazine or a tv show as a travel writer?

  • @ReginaMuse93 that is one of the thing that attracted me for Anthropology. I also think its a good basis for journalism.

  • The real reason Sabretooth hates Wolverine: Wolverine is a better anthropologist.

  • "BIN BAGS?! To dispose of bio-degradable banana skins?? You must be PUNISHED, Sid."

  • As a question that I want insight on, is does anthropology trump "historical documents"? (written documents that lead to historical conclusions) If so how...if not how not??

  • How and where do anthropologists / archaeologists get jobs?

  • @niamh2739 they can get jobs as consultants for major corporations, professors, authors, development agencies, government researchers, private researchers, and more. There doesn't seem to be a whole heck of a lot for individuals who don't pursue an advanced degree in the discipline ... especially in this market.

  • @kriskahn21

Well that is great to know because you are right there is not much for non grad degree holders but that is why I asked because I had only ever really seen or heard of them getting jobs post doctorate at either a museum or as a professor @ a university. I just thought what a waste of great skill & of great minds, & those are the lucky ones who get those positions, what about the rest of them? the ones with good but not phenominal dissertations? I mean it is not like I have ever seen

  • @kriskahn21

archaeology / anthropology jobs on monster or hotjobs : ) So thank you for the information it was very helpful.

I have always wanted to learn cuneiform and hieroglyphics so that I could scour the pyramids & old forgotten places for amazing artifacts & information so that I could translate it however, it just does'nt seem like a very realistic goal to me anymore : ( . Anyways thanks again so much I appreciate the reply.

  • I would recommend this as a major or minor to any BA student. Most fundamental of the social sciences and personally the most interesting. Goes well with politics, geography etc. Pretty much fits with most sciences.

  • I will be studying Anthropology/Ecology at the local Community College where I live. I very ,uch appreciate this information

  • sehr interessant, see how anthropologists works

  • I love anthropology. If your thinking about a career in this profession you could do a BA or a BS in interdisciplinary studies.

  • i am a genetic engineer as far as my bachelors go..i have worked in the advertising agency business a bit but wanted to find a question that would best sum up all of my curiosities as a whole..and that naturally was what are we? what are we doing here? and where are we headed..this brought me to take up anthropology for my masters program..and i hope to use bits of my knowledge from genetics, consumer behaviour etc in this glorious field..this video makes me feel good about my choice..

  • there are many different types of anthropology right? the study of racial traits as well does that aim close to the concept of anthropology?im new to it i think i can get into it

  • Anthropologists dont just study native cultures. Cultural Anthropologists study everything in society, wether modern or native. From waitresses, to company structures to medical settings...everything.

  • @MrSmiles4miles Indigenous peoples aren't less modern than industrialized society...the exist n the same timespace we do. And the idea of what a "native" culture is is completely relative. Good point, though. Anthropology and sociology can be really similar at times.

  • @RachelHC good point on the contemporaneous-ness of “natives”

  • I think it exists differences between Anthropology and Sociologym I accept they are not strong but exist depending the school that you belong... for example the sociology is more quantitative and anthropology is more qualitative and the anthropologist prefer the fildwork and sociology not much...the culture is the most central item in anthropology and the social interaction in sociology.

  • @slikrok593 There are two schools of thought regarding that opinion-because of globalization, anthropology is becoming irrelevant; or possibly anthropology is even more relevant because "native cultures" are disappearing and we could become one central culture. Anthropology isn't just limited to culture by any means either(it is the study of humanity)-there are many subfields and the study continues to grow.

  • I'm in my junior year of college, on my way to an anthro degree. Nice video.

  • @theNimboo

I'm hoping to major in anthropology as well! What specific field are you going for?
