  • Captain Kirk always gets the fines babes!

  • When she puts her hand on her head, the only thing I could think was PEN-TA-TO-NIC SCALE!"

  • This episode proves that Kirk really thinks himself a god.

  • That Indian chick is one fine mama. I didn't know they knew the art of an underwire bra.

  • "Pretend it's a seed!" Bugs Life

    7:17

  • Miramanne states "I have a present for you, it may make you happy.." Kirk is like "Is it pink and warm with hair all over?"

  • Comment removed

  • Poor Scotty. It's like no one cares about the ship like he does.

  • I love Scotty at 24:36 - "My bear'ns, my poor bear'ns!" LOL

  • Am I the only one who notised the big mistake the girl maid at 36:24?

She said that the EARTH would start to shake!

    That planit is not Earth.

  • @zdpillow Actually, the etymology of the word "earth" shows that it was in use in the English language long before it was used to refer to our planet around 1400 A.D. Before that, it represented one of the fundamental elements - air, water, fire, and earth. The real question is how did these alternate native americans end up speaking English in the first place. It would have been mystery enough if they were found speaking Navahoe or Hopee.

  • It seems after their warp drive was fried, they could have called Starfleet to send out a repair ship or at least got a tow to a starbase. You would think Starfleet Command would have wondered what happened to them after two months.

  • best moment of the episode is spock's visual explanation of the asteroid's proximity to the planet. :D

  • In real life McCoy would get punched in the face often.

He's lucky Spock never loses his cool.

  • Road to El Dorado...the gods who bleed!

  • pitching a tent

  • 34:24 my first impression was a giant sandal

  • hahah 28:10 best part!!!!

  • Instead of Kirk letting everyone thing he was a god, why couldn't he just teach everyone CPR? Selfish! lol.

  • kirk gets more pussy than most porn actors...

  • beyond belief that they could mess up such a cool storyline so badly . . ..if they had bothered to get some real native americans it could have been great - that chief's daughter was on my last nerve from the get go and the medicine chief looked like a wise guy . . . they also wrote Shatner's role pitifully

to top it all, this season showed the approach of the cheesy seventies . Kirk's sideburns are atrocious and Scotty looks like he just came from the beauty parlor

  • Amazing, even these native american aliens are somehow caucasian.

  • @DEATHBYFLYINGCDS I pointed out to my daughter the token actual Native guy who only sat in the background in one scene while the white actors did all the work. Everything about this episode is so appallingly offensive all you can do is laugh hysterically. I love how they're made up of three tribes, none of which was represented. When we saw the longhouse with the tipis, we nearly fell out of our chairs laughing. Nothing says accuracy like the Lakotojibwaudenosaunee nation. ;)

  • @TorCoolGal "Mixture of Navajo, Mohican and Deleware", Spock said. I don't know how he could say that though because surely he knew, as I do, that those people were transplanted Generic-kee.

  • @Uyarasuk All of whom had a great-great-grandmother who was a Generic-kee Princess. ;)

  • In this episode at 38:57 Spock and McCoy discuss The Preservers as an explanation of the proliferation of humanoid species throughout the galaxy, but on TNG they give an entirely different explanation about how a long dead race knew that they were doomed and seeded portions of the galaxy before their sun went nova.

  • These commercials can kiss my 'yaz!

  • Well...if Kerock was so smart, he'd just have the others go to the trees a few yards behind the obelisk where the wind isn't even blowing. Check it out around 37:55 and see how localized that mean old storm is. Y'gotta love those "special" FX!

Rock on Spock! You could be the lead vocalist of The Preservers. Kerock and his wife rocked til they dropped! Hey Spock, everyone must get stoned! ...with my mind on Miramanni & Miramanni on my mind! Oh man, I crack myself up!

  • "Bones" can put Spock's brain back into his head two days after it was removed but he can't save a girl who got hit by a rock in the stomach?.

  • I like the beginning "what are the odds a planet just like earth"? lol. That IS odd isn't it? And boy is it every lucky for production costs! Also, I find it intriguing how many alien civilizations speak English! I guess it IS the universal language!

  • Crcry :( Kirk's baby died too :(

  • @captainspock1000 you're forgetting one thing . . . humans do act like kindergartners - Spock has to work with what he's got

  • 31:23 "My prescription is rest, do I have to call the security guards?"

*Spock raises his eyebrow and walks to his bed.*

    *McCoy leaves*

    *Spock gets up*

Really Bones, I can't believe you fell for that one.

    LOL

  • everytime Spock is in command Dr Macoy always gives him a hard time. He is so annoying

  • this one brought a tear to my eye :(

  • 27:00 - geesh Bones, don't be such a downer! At least Spock has the balls to keep trying! Besides he loves Kirk too much to just give up on him. He would NEVER do that!

  • lol at 28:15

Sometimes you just need a hug. lol

  • @niraha LOL. And when no one is willing, hug yourself!

  • Are you kidding me right now?! What the hell kind of ending was that?!

    Ugh. Poor Kirk :(

  • I'm sure it was written into the script to accommodate the puny brained viwers

  • I love Spock's lecture.

  • Probably the best background music of any episode. Especially the final scene. The combination of the editing, insertion of the titles and the swelling of the music is a clinic on how all the elements combine to generate the desired emotional tone of the scene. My favorite scene of the entire series.

  • "I bare your child"

We all knew Jim would hear that some day while his landing party was researching on a planet.

  • yeah, but the grin on his face is priceless :)

  • to kikioshia:

Congrats - that is probably one of the funniest comments ever on this site

  • 28:09 cracked my ass up!

  • LOL @ 15:13. Nice badge Kirk.

  • 24:33

Poor Scotty! Spock is pushing his lovely lady too far!

  • That was the wierdest version of CPR I've ever seen, Kirk!

  • or you could deflect the asteroid first, and THEN investigate the planet...

  • 33:32 LOL bug lands on his face:)

  • parallel earths, a.k.a.Hodgkin's Law of Parallel Planetary Development = using Paramount's stock sets and costumes to depict worlds. Hence so many planets with cowboys, indians, nazi's, gangsters, 20's garb, etc. Thats why the modern star treks tv shows had so many Holodeck episodes... especially voyager. Suddenly they are talking to Mark Twain or Galileo.. whatever they could dig up from the paramount stock wardrobe ...

  • @wanageeska

Nazis and gangsters were due to contaminationi

  • poor spock. whenever he's forced into command, he can't do anything right in the eyes of mccoy. =( he tries his hardest, and bones just yells at him and makes him feel like crap.

  • wtf?? okay then!! lol.

  • @ToWhenTFor Yeah, McCoy is kindof a dick.

  • @ToWhenTFor That's because Bones is an old-fashioned racist bastard.

  • @ToWhenTFor but he doesn't feel

  • @ToWhenTFor Bones is rather ciritical of him.

  • CPR isn't just blowing into the mouth. lol And what was he doing with his legs?

  • @TearJerker2011 seriously. He would've killed the boy had he done that CPR much longer. :)

  • ...Since when can you do CPR without pinching the nose? Kirk pinches it like...once, then just holds the kids head. If you don't pinch the nose, the air just goes right out and never gets to the lungs. D:

  • Probably because he couldn't ACTUALLY give CPR since that kid's just an actor.

  • @SkaarjSlayer Besides the fact that I'm an actor who knows CPR? Since it's a pretty common skill, someone could have at least given him a quick brush up. What he was doing was like shoddy resuscitative breathing...plus leg aerobicizing. :P

  • and this show is like from the late 60s and i dont think they had all the med. knolage and tec. we have to day

  • @hairball3796 Developed in 1960, went public in '62. It might have been 50 years ago, but it wasn't the stone age.

  • or perhaps giving a breathing person CPR would be more than it's worth. No need to put the kid in pain for the sake of a scene.

  • @hairball3796 even still, pumping the legs doesn't do anything lol

  • @SkaarjSlayer or he didn't know how to give cpr the correct way :)

  • Those Native Americans? Not really

  • Miramani. My guess is when Kirk gave her the root he wasn't exacting going where no man had gone before. That broad looks like she's been around the block a few times.

  • Not that I am really complaining but I'm kinda mad he did have a wife and was going to have a child. It would just make Kirk more of a manwhore than normal...But I'm sad that she died trying to protect him from a stoning.

  • haha a fly landed on his head 33:34

  • I wish the hell they would get some bigger relays, more dilithium crystals stronger shields and lasers, more powerful photon torpedoes.

It would help if McCoy would shut up.

  • Why McCoy was funny but this isn't his kind of episode you can see he's not going to be funny.

  • Man, thats sad. Comon Bones, a meager stoning-related internal injuries? Dont be such a quack :)

  • i love this episode... its sad... at end how his wife dies she was so pretty man and she like dies and stuff it just is :( 19:05 - 19:13 wat is that guitar rythem btw

  • 7:50-7:55 XD

  • lol! the part spock was explaining to mccoy about how the astriod will crash into the planet, with the rocks. i was expecting mccoy to say something like "i'm not a cave man spock!

    i understand you!"

  • Wouldn't saving a planet from utter anihilation be against the prime directive?

  • From what I understand, violating the Prime Directive only constitutes interference with the natural progression of their culture, not saving their lives.

  • @slayerowns666 doesnt kirk almost always interfere anyway?

  • Is he gonna pump the kid's legs? I think he's gonna pump his legs! Come on, pump those legs! breathe... breathe... HE'S PUMPING THE LEGS!! YES! WEEEEE!!!

  • What's funny is in some episodes a starship is capable of destroying an entire planet effortlessly; but in this episode one asteroid is monumentally impossible to stop/alter course

What's more funny are the jackasses who get all technical/factual about this science fiction fantasy, and thus start to critique the Star Trek movie that came out this year, denoting "fictional facts". Fiction is fiction.

It's for fun, and what truth can be learned from it.

Trying to do more with it is truly sick.

  • its just a tv show, get over it like the rest below.

  • how would there be a Soix teppee and a Iraqoise long ouse? Awnsers?

  • its not earth. those arent Soix or Iraqoise

  • I just think it's funny that somehow its so surprising that a planet would evolve to have the same plants as earth, and yet it was perfectly acceptable that a planet's history could mirror earth (bread and circuses)... I love this show, but sometimes the consistency isn't fantastic...

  • Why does everyone in the frickin' galaxy speak English?

  • Because the show would be kind of lame if they couldn't communicate with anybody they met.

  • why didnt they knock out the comet then go back to take a look?

  • There was an episode whre Kirk says "This planet is as close to paradise as any we've encountered," or something to the sort. I thought this was it, but apparently not.

    Anyone???

  • Shore Leave?

  • Yeah, he says something pretty close, that's probably what I'm thinking of.

    Thanks!

  • He also says something like that in "The Apple".

  • I hate this episode just because of the fact that the writer would ASSUME that there is a duplicate culture the same as our native americain indians. BAD BAD BAD! Some episodes are good some are WAY BAD!

  • well, this was just one of the many writers of the show. 3rd season also wasnt the best of seasons...

  • You missed the part when it was explained that they were taken from Earth to preserve their race

  • NinjaPenguinRobot

I AGREE WITH WHAT YOU"RE SAYING BUT

IT WAS SAD TO SEE MIRAMANEE KILLED BY HER VERY TRIBE "STONED TO DEATH" !!

SHE WAS PREGNANT AND CARRYING CAPTAIN KIRK'S (KIROK'S) CHILD !!

IN THE EPISODE SHE WAS MARRIED TO

    CAPTAIN KIRK (KIROK) !!

UNLIKE DR. CAROL MARCUS WHO WAS NEVER IN THE ORIGINAL SERIES AND

WAS NEVER MARRIED TO THE CAPTAIN !!

DAVID MARCUS WAS JUST A LOVE CHILD !!

  • @MRJAVIER196619862009 HARDLY WORTH YELLING ABOUT!!

  • I love how often Spock says the odds are against finding a planet parallel to earth... yet they are always coming across one that is!

  • I think this episode was supposed to reconcile that inconsistency by the introduction of the "Preservers".

  • AND I WILL LOVE YOU MIRAMANEE ALWAYS !!

  • NinjaPenguinRobot

IN THIS PARTICULAR EPISODE KIROK (KIRK)

    WAS MARRIED TO MIRAMANEE !!

  • hey im just saying that with all his lovers out there in the universe Miramanee might not be the only one who was knocked up *cough David Marcus cough*

  • At 7:55... Spock keeps the "asteroid" moving towards the "planet" as McCoy considers. FRICKIN HILARIOUS!

  • I noticed that to. It was like he was daring McCoy to disagree.

  • Bill Shatner dedication in great new bio (All About Jeffrey Hunter) at amazon!

  • This episode taught me something...

Somebody has got to take kirk to the Maury Povich show, just imagine how many space women need to give this guy a paternity test

  • It is unlikely that any group would live that close to the water due to adverse weather, flooding and insects.

  • If "Kirok" didn't have amnesia he'd remember he only falls for blondes....

there's extra tension between Spock & Bones whenever Kirk's not around

  • LOL

  • kirks indian chick was SOOOOOO hot. what a babe....

  • @ixfxi I AGREE !!

  • BEHOLD A GOD WHO BLEEDS!

  • Ok, not a bad episode, but it was so so so so creepy when he revived the boy. I was a bit squicked. lol X]

  • F*** the camercals

  • well it is far cheaper to watch 15 seconds of ads then pay for the actual eposides.

  • "I've always wondered why there were so many humanoids scattered through the galaxy."

Yeah, me too, Bones. It's called not enough funds from the network to procure proper prosthetics and make-up for your aliens. ^_^

  • It's only offensive if you expect a late 60's TV show to have anything but a horrible representation of native people.

But hey, this *is* another planet!

  • In what way is this a horrible representation of native americans?

  • I watched star trek as a kid in the 60s and watching all the episodes again is a great treat. In this episode I noted that the primitive indians did develop elastic head bands - note when it is removed from the medicine man and placed on Kirk's head. It is one of the better episodes.

  • love the guitar in this one! AWESOME!

  • 19:05 - 19:13 wat is that rythem i love it too

  • in the Khan movie Kirk fathered a kid, but it didn't seem he really loved that woman and bypassed marrying her. But when he met Reina the android, he fell hopelessly and recklessly in love. The only other time was here with Miramani. And this was the only time he actually married a woman. And even when he recovered his memory, he continued to love her and called her his wife. Also, Kirk could still see his friends Spock and Mcoy in his mind, even though he couldn't remember them.

  • I love this episode. Such a good story!

    <3

  • too bad about the fly on kirk's face while they are getting all emotional. wonder if they did a few retakes to no avail?

  • Filming time is very expensive and they can't do retakes for minor things. It just made it more realistic. You would expect flies out in the wilderness.

  • Jeez. Speling on thi internit iz atroshus! People. Proper capitalization and punctuation are signs of higher intellect. Is it any wonder the aliens don't land on the White House lawn. Half of us can't even read let alone string a coherent, intelligent sentence together. Jeez!

  • @RandyWayneFricke or maybe higher intellect just realizes its a bunch of stupid rules that we don't need and are free to throw out . . . but if you'd prefer to grade everyone's papers, rather than just enjoy, we can send you to the principal's office

  • Two episodes ago Bones reinstalled a friggin brain, now he can't fix some internal bleeding?

  • Hey, McCoy WAS under alien influence, if you recall.

  • I hate this episode... its sooo sad!!!!

  • friggin 3 seasons...that's it. Sometimes that makes me so mad. This was such a cool show. Wished it could have gone on a bit longer like another 10-12 seasons :)

  • Yeah...

  • Well, had the show continued, the movies would have likely never been made. I, for one, think The Wrath of Kahn was worth the show's cancellation.

  • two months? they couldnt find another star ship to go there in two months?

  • The single saddest, most tragic ending of any show or movie ever made

  • i know.. i got sad :(

  • Spock is the best in this episode!!

"Another calculated risk, doctor." HAHA you tell him Spock. Bones' got some nerve! Doesnt he know that Spock knows what he is doing????

  • You leave my Bones alone! *cuddles him*

  • NO he is my Bones! *cuddles him more*

  • MIIIIIINE! *snatches him back and squeezes*

  • noooo! give me my Bones! *snatches him from you and huggles him*

  • We share teh McCoy? *puppydog eyes*

  • what does McCoy say? *listens to him* Okay deal ^-^

  • yayyyyy! ^_^

  • 15:20 looks like John Lovitz....

  • It bugs the heck out of me how the doctor always questions Spock's comands but never Kirks.

  • Bones gives it to Kirk now and then --- the most heated argument was on The Corbomite Maneuver over Kirk relieving the navigator

Most the time Bones messes with Spock regarding his feelings. The absolute worse example---I would call it blatant unprofessional conduct and Bones should have been charged was The Galileo Seven

  • you might be right!

  • @beautifulpassion it happens when Kirk is in danger because they both love him and are afraid they are going to lose him

  • what is the episode with abe lincoln? please tell me by sending me a message please tell me

  • The Savage Curtain

  • The Savage Curtain

    Season 3 Episode 22

  • Kirk's sideburns make him look like elvis.

  • Why couldn't they leave someone behind to search for Kirk even if they had to warp out of there?

  • Yeah...cause the red shirts are so devoted to Kirk that they'd willingly sign on for an open ended landing party. Right.

  • Another beautiful actress Sabrina Scharf as Miramanee! Wow what a stricking woman!

And honestly I seem to remember many stunningly beautiful female actresses appearing in Star Trek during it's run!

  • Geez, McCoy in the beginning freaks me out.

    "Is that honeysuckle I smell?"

    You're a doctor, not a botanist!

  • How dare you! honeysuckle DOES have a unique smell like beautifulpassion said.

  • ^_^ Thankies, Darq

  • but we all luv Bones!

  • On balance I prefer the episodes filmed outside, versus the inescapably murky interior sets (phony "outdoor" scenes with the styrofoam rocks, fake trees, arti. lighting, etc.) Clearly the location filming was centered in California -- same look as episodes of Bonanza, Little House on the Prarie, etc.

Ending of this eppy is especially sensitive and beautiful, bittersweet but not over the top. Lovely music, heartbreaking situation for Kirk. I found it quite upsetting when I was a wee lad.

  • haha i love how spock is moves the rock closer in the scenario as mccoy is thinking.

  • "is moves the rock closer"??? where do you people get your sense of the english launguage?

  • That not how you do CPR...
