@theunraveler Hey, give her some credit, going from English to Chinese is tough to say, let alone SING! ;) (She'd actually done the English version of this song before, so she knew the tune... but wow, learning it all over again in Chinese...)
I don't even speak chinese and to me her "chinese" doesn't sound very convincing just by listening to it. Charlie Chaplin's mock German in "The Great Dictator" was more convinging, and that was pure comedy.
@theunraveler i think the whole point was to have her sound like that she is an american singer in a foreign country...she was the "fish out of water" character! i think it wa sa subliminal "set up" for her role in the film!
lol. I was thinking the exact same thing myself just the other day. This is practically a horror movie and it opens with a bright, energetic and cheery musical number like this.
@SJ363 Actually, this score is from the musical "Anything Goes," so no, this isn't a Williams composition, this musical was written in 1934 (so it actually fits perfectly with the movie.)
And the actress playing Willie- she'd sung this before in the original English, she "just" had to learn to singing in MANDARIN... can you imagine, knowing all the words to the song and singing it well enough to get cast in a Broadway-caliber musical, and now you have to learn a CHINESE VERISON? Good play...
Is that really how you sing Anything Goes in Shanghi?

@incrediblehulkmovies Shanghai people don't speak mandarin, they speak a different dialect known as Shanghai-nese, no joke

@jmm1233
Yeah, especially since Cole Porter wrote "Anything Goes" back in 1934. When John Williams was 2 years old.

@robloxvideos2112 Do you mean the dance recital of anything goes? I could rip it from the movie for you.
StarWarsFan786 1 year ago
@robloxvideos2112
it's a higher and lighter remix of anything goes.
that's why you can't find it.
you can here the similarity in the music if you listen to that scene closely.
