I totally concur shari - however we have a dilemma here. Our Canadian Fishermen have families to feed and my heart grieves for both sides - we will never end any practice by way of hate persecution and contempt - there are two if not three sides to every story and I loathe this hunt like no other but on the other hand I love my Countrymen. Newfoundlanders are one of the purest of heart people Canada has to offer despite what is shown here. It is possible to love and hate with the same fate.

Tens of thousands of these poor seal pups furs are burned every year do to lack of demand.

What do you object to other than activists using the Canadian flag to create icons of the hunt? Canadian tax payer dollars pay for this hunt. 2007 revenue was only 7 million and more than $40 million was spent.

I have read every statement on The Inuit Tapirit Kanatami website and none of it makes any sense (except for peripheral damage to their seal fur market). It's as if the tribe is appealing there should be no punishment or cessation of auto theft because it will damage their own sales of automobiles. You can not blame the Fishermen is this respect. Our Federal and provincial government morons elect the quotas and claim to but do not police adequately if at all. These quotas are set by the government not the Fishermen and for years they blamed the seals for the cod fishery going almost bankrupt - the assholes have finally admitted this is not the case - they however fail to admit they are poor managers of our Fisheries as like all our wildlife....cont

Shari I condemn any method of killing these miracles. I studied this hunt extensively via methodology reports, surveys, stats, polls, vet reports, every index on our Federal Government related to this hunt - and the history and methods used worldwide in the sealing industry. Shooting is done and many just end up drowning in their own blood and the water they attempt to escape to. Only my humble opinion the concept of taking a healthy life humanely is ludicrous. An oxymoron if there ever was one.

I totally concur shari - however we have a dilemma here. Our Canadian Fishermen have families to feed and my heart grieves for both sides - we will never end any practice by way of hate persecution and contempt - there are two if not three sides to every story and I loathe this hunt like no other but on the other hand I love my Countrymen. Newfoundlanders are one of the purest of heart people Canada has to offer despite what is shown here. It is possible to love and hate with the same fate.

The only trouble with the supply and demand argument is that there isn't that great a demand for these pelts. As a mater of fact Canada has been try to recreate a dead industry. The hunt has been subsidized now ever since it was falsely reconstituted over 10 years ago. Each year Canadian tax payers have to contribute money to a floundering attempt by the DFO to placate the whims of the fishermen. Tens of thousands of these poor seal pups furs are burned every year do to lack of demand.
