思想起是由台灣原住民平埔族的西拉雅族所演變而來的，所以是一首­漢化的民謠。

恆春歌手陳達老先生用這個基調，彈著月琴，唱出祖先過黑水溝（台­灣海峽）來到台灣的堅苦開荒歷史故事。用歌講故事，所以他一唱就­不停，許多即興的、多采多姿的變化。我年輕時聽過部份錄音，精彩­極了。

老歌手在一場車禍中過世，留下他那支貼著膠布的老月琴。
