  • Diesel here is like 10-15 cents cheaper we pay by the liter (Canada) and I'm getting my first car really liking the diesel concept . Might get a '09 or 2010

  • tdi stands for turbo diesel injection not turbo direct....

  • i love my impreza. but the mileage is terrible. oh well.

  • does it have to take ultra low sulfur diesel? how aboout normal HESS diesel? What about bio-diesel? anu problems with those? thank you to whoever answers

  • Great cars, bought mine in Feb. 2009 and have already 68k, no issues at all

  • Clean diesel is 15% cheaper than regular gas in Canada.... of course we get ripped off on the price of fuel. Meaning, our diesel price is about the same as the U.S. but regular gas is about 35% more!

  • I love diesels! Much more efficient, ecological, and torquer.

  • u know your passionate about your diesel if you smell the exhaust every morning lols

  • @fenixans I'll say, I dont see why everyone complains, I've always liked the smell of diesel fuel or any fuel for the matter- although I do avoid inhaling it.

  • the money u save in prius will go toward replacing expensive lithium ion batteries. so i dont get the point of the prius.

  • just drove them both today the 2.5 seems faster when you first take off but you can def feel the pulling power of the desil

  • "about as much more efficient" as a hybrid is off people. Top Gear showed the average MPG rating on a Prius at 45. While a TDI VW Lupo, got 50 to 80, and that's actual performance, not what the brochure says.

  • u dont have diesel in fuel stations ?:O lol

  • Our 2003 Jetta TDI 5 speed gets 48mpg easily, more if you drive it right. Lets see a prius get that. Plus Diesel is a cleaner made fuel, with different processing.

  • @dirtastegood are you stupid, you cant make gas with out making diesel, diesel is a by product of gas, thats why it is retarted when gas is cheaper than diesel because it is cheaper to make diesel.......

  • @heysas Exactly. The biproduct is going to be left over, whether they make it into diesel or not. They will never stop producing gas, so that biproduct is always going to be there. My point i was trying to make was that it was gas that took all the work, when diesel is an added leftover/bonus if they choose it to be. Therefore, it should be cheaper. And yes, they still have to refine that biproduct, it is not automatically diesel. So i am not the stupid one, you just did not understand.

  • @dirtastegood they don't make diesel out of gas you dumbass.diesel is a byproduct of petrol distillation the same way gas is. diesel is less refined than gas.

  • @heysas Funny that....as here in the UK we get hammered on price for diesel. More expensive than petrol (gas). Fuel price here in UK is a joke. Rip off Britain!!!

  • diesals have been great for years whats this retard on about.American gas gusslers have always been shit

  • smelling the car ass .. yeah

  • just to let you toyota lovers, volkswagen is the number one seliing car in the world not toyota. prius is hot in the US but no one has one in europe and in asia many don't drive anyway. however i don't have a favorite brand i just choose the one that is the best for gas, reliability, price, and quality.

  • Lol really cold like 0 :D :D

It is 0 in Lithuania on spring :D

  • lol he smells the car

  • It's the dog thing

  • haha thats how you know your getting a good car

  • Jetta and GLI ftw!

  • I like this car, but whats the deal with the DSG trannys? Have they fixed the problems yet?

  • worldwide, volkswagen sells more cars than any other company on the planet, including toyota. it's only the us market that vw hasn't taken very seriously in the past

  • Prius - 15,000 sold

    Jetta TDI - 1,800 sold

    Oct. 2009 sales

  • fortunately diesel is cheaper than gasoline in germany. but still expensive

  • its about 40 cents higher here in us oklahoma gas is 3.40

  • @fordboy111591 I wish it were that cheap here :D

    Diesel is approx. 6.00 $ (4.30€) and gas 7.20 $ (5.20€). It sucks !

  • damn that sucks bro ... but u got all the gas saver cars lol it equals out like u pay 6 bucks and u get 30 mpg i pay 2 and get like 5 mpg lmao it's all good

  • @fordboy111591 somehow thats true. lol :D

  • @ichundichundduunder dear God! Diesel is $2.43 here!

  • MUCH better than any Prius!

  • Uh, I may not own one....but TDI does NOT stand for turbo Direct Injection...it's Turbo Diesel Injection.....

  • no it stands for turbo direct injection,,go look it up!

  • much better in Brazil... "some sportily version" there

  • i always buy a car that has nice smelling exhaust fumes

  • but even worse isrepairing a hybrid

  • well... it might get noisy after a while.. but not on the inside... dont drive it like a GTI, or ur gsd gearbox will jerk on low rpms..

  • 6th gear, 45 mph i get 72 miles per gallon.

  • looks like passat a little....

  • Like Jetta. Considered to be the good for everyday use car.

  • I drive the '02 version of this car and I love it. Mine gets 40 in town and 45 on the highway.

  • ugly? that's subjective... noisy? on the outside not the inside... actually i like cars to be noisy on the outside... when u step on the pedal, the sound roars

  • Noisy on the outside not even! my mom picked me up in the tdi at my shcool. I couldn't even hear it!

  • is hers new? coz as time passes, the insulation gets a bit loose... i prefer it loud on the outside, so pedestrians knows you're coming...

  • yep its like a month old. its 2010.

  • I love my 2000 TDI 400,000 km and counting. The engine is great and I'm averaging 4.2 liters on 100 km per tank 80% hwy 20% city.

  • wow when he said independent labs are getting 38 mpg city and 44 mpg highway wow that blows me away guys buy this instead of those expensive hybrids and i think diesels even last longer then gas engines i think not for sure but overall WOW

  • i know i was just limiting my words

  • injection not inject.

  • Turbocharged Direct Injection (acronym: TDI) ... that what it mean's ... and nothing else ...

TDI is a registered trademark of Volkswagen AG

The new Audi A4 TDIe ... gets with one tank of Diesel as far as 1.684,00 Kilometer ... that is 3.5 liters per 100 Kilometer ... no Hybrid can top that ...

  • because diesel is the best in the world, but nobody understands that

  • @THEuncleshank only america doenst undersstand that....

  • is there any aftermarket upgrades for this car?

  • does anyone know the website to locate the diesel stations

  • They sell diesel almost on every gas station.

  • Joe is incredible. He's possibly the only American, car presenter, that doesn't sound like a buffoon. This guy reminds me of people like Jeremy Clarkson, early on in his career.

  • dude his reviews are fricken awesome! and he always throws in something funny

  • Diesel is just the only way to go

  • joe has something that the rest of the reviewers don't have..... charisma

  • esta de la tisnada

  • i would take this over a uncomfortable ugly looking and slow prius anyday.

  • I agree the prius is a gimick for movie stars and tool's. If anyone thinks other wise consider this, when the jetta is turning over 400,000 miles you will have most likely replaced 2 batteries in your prius at 10,000 dollars each. You might as well buy 2 jettas at that point.

  • @waferninja gas comes from diesel.

  • vw make somes nice looking cars for the new technology i do take my hat off to them for making nice looking cars

  • i saw it on a web page it said it makes 58mpg is this for real i understand its the way u drive but if it can get up to that mpg its good. anything between 35 and 58 mpg would be great . i never bought anything that wasnt toyota or honda how is a volks anyway

  • The 58 mpg was a different car but i think it was the same motor the norm on a new jetta is mid 30's city mid 40's highway. this is a great car.

  • now diesel is the way cause diesel is cheaper now..

  • diesels always the way to go, 30% better mileage than gas. And the jetta tdi gets just about equal to a prius

  • better 2009 model set world record at 58mpg

  • is that stock mpg?

  • yeah the damn thing is azmazing

  • Had mine for a month....its fantastic. Make sure to get the navigation if you can, its top of the line and well worth the money.

  • 傑特,是嗎?阿爾貝您!愛你!

  • furley523 posted this; "I have an 06 TDI; the services are expensive!"

The service at VW costs $140 mainly because the the TDI uses a diesel specific full synthetic oil (505.00). You change the oil every 10,000 miles.

  • There are some complete lunatics on here. NO, he is not holding up the hood....it has hydraulic rods, just like my 2003. I have owned 4 VW diesels and I will keep owning them. I have 142,000 miles on my TDI Wagon, and the only thing I have had to replace, other than the timing belt at 80,000, were the brake pads...at 116,000! Everything else is original. The car has been exceptional, and even the older TDI is quiet on the highway inside the car.

  • THIS VIDEO IS RARE BECAUSE THAT CAR HERE IN MEXICO known as BORA, BORA TDI also. COULD SOMEONE EXPLAIN ME WHY ARE INVESTED? THIS TRUCK IS CALLED HERE IN MEXICO BORA TDI

  • Lo que pasa es que en México, el Jetta es el Volkswagen Vento en Alemania. En E.U. cambian los nombres para tratar de vender mas. Esto me lo explicó un asesor técnico de la Volkswagen acá en Puebla.

  • Masina domnului Albert Andrei si pedeasupra are si culoarea albastra!

  • Why is he huffing the exhaust pipe? That is just disturbing.

  • lol relly cold like zero

my old diesel benz starts with 20 cold degrees easly, just have to take care,

  • Listen to the sound of this car and you know it is a diesel but it sounds great! You can only hear the engine if you are outside of the car. Diesel fuel now is cheaper than any gasoline so this car will be in big demand! It won't take long to pay for the $2100.00 premium of the diesel engine and it will outlive any gasoline engine!

  • I cant believe his is inhaling the exhaust....that particulate will fry your lungs

  • it has a particulate filter. Do your research.

  • Comment removed

  • Every car now has a hood prop. And modern diesels are quiet. Piezo injectors allow for multiple injections of fuel to quiet the combustion process. Do your research.

  • Comment removed

  • They are as quiet as a diesel can be, but you can still hear them. The Merc, BMW and Honda produce the quietest diesel engines. Honda has a 2.2 Common rail turbo diesel engine which they use in the Accord, giving a quiet and refined ride. Likewise Merc CDI engines are very quiet

  • Actually PSA (peugeot and citroen) and Renaults diesel engines are more smooth than Merc, BMW and Honda.

Also the new Audi diesel engines with common rail are smoother too.

  • The Audi common rail diesel engine is the same one that is in the Jetta. So no, it is not that quiet. I know, as I have owned a 2.0 TDI Jetta. Same Engine as the Audi, not that quiet. I now drive the Passat 2.0 TDI. Same problem.

  • No no no. They used to be the same, not anymore. Audi now puts the new version of TDI in A3 and A4.

It has common rail, 143 hp and its much quieter and smoother then 140hp version of TDI thats put into Jetta, Golf ,Passat, etc.

But, it also lost some of that famous diesel punch when you floor the throttle. Now it has much smoother acceleration, not as violent and rough as before.

  • Incorrect. Audi A3 is still on the 140 PS engine which is the same as theJetta, Golf and Passat. All are common rail. The A4 has got the new 143 PS engine. There is a 170 PS engine available as well for all the models.

  • No, 140 PS versions aren't common rail. Only new 143 and 170 ps versions are common rail. Old 140 ps versions have ordinary old fashioned pump injection. One of the reasons why they were so rough and loud.

  • I am afraid you are mistaken. The 2.0 TDI 140 PS is a common rail. I have checked this on the VW website and confirmed with a dealership. Check the listing in What Car?

  • I dont know..... but why would they make a new version of 2.0 TDI then? If the old one already had common rail....and they said in every magazine that the biggest change on new version is common rail, which will reduce noise and improve fuel efficiency?

And im pretty sure that 2.0 TDI on golf 5 and passat with 140 hp was rough, loud, worked like a tractor. And a new one in A4 for example is very smooth and silent.

  • I would not go as far as saying the new engine is quiet. It is more refined, sure, but you can still hear it is a diesel.

  • Well yea....but its not as loud as old one.

Some people like the diesel sound...so i guess its not bad that you can hear it.

  • you can not get a quiter diesal engine the the bmw m52tu3 engine,,3.0 twin turbo inline six, best diesal engine award 07 08 09!

  • Well its funny how this guy must to explain whats diesel is ;)

TDI sucks - this is probably 1.9 with is 20 years old.

  • This car has a 2.0L 16 valve common rail injecion diesel. Very modern engine. Do your research.

  • I have an 06 TDI; the services are expensive!

  • alright, you, i can safely say, are mentally retarded asshole. so f*** off! if you don't like jettas, then don't watch videos about them. and seeing from your username, you like acura, can you tell everyone here what makes an acura soo much better than volkwagen. last time i checked (yesterday), acura is the biggest piece of shit cars i have ever seen in my life...even more than a Skoda!

  • Comment removed

  • If you mention it that way, I assume you have one of them already!!! or maybe are you planning to give to a Jetta's gift surpriseyour to your boyfriend?? QUEER!!

  • yep.. if u say it that way there are totally designed fro u you then. lol

  • this blokes full of shit!

these will do upto 60mpg not 44!

  • true,,i had a 01 passat 115bhp and it did 62 on long runs

  • nice car, good mileage, and clean air

  • It seems like German engering has been thinking faster then American so I guess its not just the Japanese.

  • Do a boosted launch next time, you will get more boost out of the turbo.

  • variable vane turbo, minimal lag.

  • Im 17 and my parents have a Diesel jetta and when I drive it it runs so smooth and you cant even hear them. Probably the best car I have seen and driven, 100% better than GMC, Ford, and Chevrolet type cars.

  • I love Jetta...

  • what kind of idiot smells the exhaust directly at the pipes? doesn't matter if its gas or clean diesel...what a fuckin idiot

  • piss off mate¡¡¡¡¡¡

  • hey viclam wanna say hi to your mum?? Si no te callas malparido te voy a meter un tiro en el ojete pichurria maldita...

  • :DDD "realy cold temperatures, like 0" that is not cold:)

  • i live in cali ..... THATS COLD.

  • i live in new york, its colder..

  • You can get diesel at almost every gas station. Either way i love diesel but i would want to throw a program on that thing and really wake it up.

  • I converted my 2ooo Jet into a vJet, Home made-dual fuel hybrid burning either diesel of vegetable oil.

So far the best MPG I have gotten when not factoring in the free vegi oil was 298 MPG

Also, I regularly tow a 6oo lb trailer. Just today I fetched 1oo gallons of kerosene. The Jet acted like she didn't know the trailer was even hitched on (and it was 4 mile up hill journey).

Mistakenly I once loaded up 22oo lbs on mason sand-The Jet did notice but she did the job nontheless-even the breaks

  • Besides getting good fuel economy, wouldn't a diesel engine also last longer than a regular gasoline engine?

  • Studies say Diesel engines last up to 3 times as more than Petrol engines, that is why only Diesel engines are found on lorries, buses, ships, etc, they also have a bigger energy efficiency of 50%, compared to 23% on the best Petrol engines.

  • yes with a diesel you can get about 300,000 miles usually compared to 120-150,000 miles with a gas engine

  • you can rebuild those engines over and over man they will last forever trust me I work on diesel engines.

  • The jetta needs new styling

  • i want tone to replace my 04 xB. and it can be quick too. Mercedes needs to step up their game and get their cars and SUV's 50 state legal with Diesel

  • Finding a diesel filling station has never been a problem for me. At least half of the stations I drive by have diesel, and stations are usually clustered together. Plus with a 500+ mile range per tank you're bound to drive past a station with diesel fuel.

  • isn't the dodge ram cummins deisel the first 50 state legal deisel?

  • "Car" he says it repeatedly. There are many diesel trucks and SUVs

  • I want this

  • 38mpg city NICE

  • The point of a Diesel engine is fuel economy, this car delivers excelent value for money, you get impressive torque at lower RPM's than in a petrol powered car.

In motorway conditions this car does 25km/L, compared to 14km/L on the 2.5L petrol engine, Diesel costs more but you are polluting less and you can fill up with biodiesel which is cheaper than normal mineral Diesel.

  • You can fill up a diesel powered car with biodiesel?

  • Yes you can, manufacturer suggests you can fill up with B20 which is 20% Biodiesel and 80% mineral Diesel, but you can use B100 with as little or no modifications at all, depending on the vehicle.

  • The guy at the end of every episode sounds like Newman from Seinfeld LOL... dunno why I'm posting this.

  • I would like to see the Honda diesel here, but I think they are waiting to see who wins the election.

  • obama ;P

  • diesels should be offered by all automakers, i would think they would last a whole lot longer than hybrids, changing out batteries after so many years and all this bullcrap haha

  • Now the Jetta is call also Bora???

  • bora is european jetta

  • yes but not in the usa

  • Diesel costs about 24% more than gas and the diesel model costs several thousand more than the gasoline model, so it just doesn't pay anymore. They use to be a good deal when diesel was cheaper than gasoline. Also ask the parts department what the 505.01 oil costs for this car. I think 5 liters is about $45 (if you go on line and hunt for it), but after 10,000 miles you change the oil every 10,000 miles or 12 months.

  • You are kind of taking the same kind of risk that a person driving a hybrid is. If gas prices grow significantly higher, than they will earn the money they spent over the gasoline engine back. Here, you are praying that the ratio of the cost of gas to the cost of diesel goes back to what it used to be, in which case this would be one of the cheapest cars on the road to drive, as it will also last longer than a hybrid.

  • Good point. Actually, I like the TDI, because it has lots of power and is also very fuel efficient.

  • sweet
