  • The main problem with our schools and teachers is that we talk about the kids being the future and teachers being valuable, but nobody is willing to pay more for better schools and teachers. If for once someone would put their money where there mouth is, instead of opposing all new taxes. The point is having good schools benefits everyone. I would rather have a neighborhood full of scholars than of flunkies, junkies, and crooks.

  • Accountability in schools is a must.... KIDS SHOULD BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR THEIR BEHAVIOR NOT ONLY BY THE PRINCIPLE BUT ALSO BY TEACHERS AND PARENTS. Teachers need authority given nack to them. Children left to their own devices will self destruct......remember Lord of the Flies. their is more truth to that than we care to admit. Children NEED discipline, which means to teach that each behavior has a natural consequence. GIVE TEACHERS BACK THEIR CLASSROOMS!

  • My mom is a teacher and it is very hard..... paho123 is correct in sayin middle school is dfficult...my moms hardest years where middle school...she loves elementry though.... and uberchrist is right too though... you do get the summer "off" .....but not from work...every year my mom spends the summer doing lesson plans and making tests and getting school supplies.. so it is a year round job...you just get to be home during the summer...

  • pah0123, I noticed that U didn't refute my points, though. I do agree with your assessment that parents won't support you, or discipline their kids. But, liberals that say, "don't hit your children". When my son's school called me, to tell me he was misbehaving, the first thing out of my mouth was, "Hit him"! The dean said that they couldn't do that. I reminded her that corporal punishment was still on the books, but she advised that they leave that up to the parents. U can't win.

  • you guys are so, so ignorant...

  • Become a teacher, kids. The perks: summer's off; pension plans that are not reduced by SS; no contributions to medical insurance. &, the kicker is, you don't have to prove that you're capable to do the job. I know of where I speak: I dated, & almost married a teacher, & all he was concerned about, was making principal because, & I quote: "That's where the money is".

  • Oh my, so you think because you were "dating" this guy you are an authority on teaching? I quit teaching because it is so horrid. Try teaching middle school kids who won't listen, don't care to learn, have parents who won't support you or discipline their kids. If it keeps on the way it's going parents will have to home school their kids because there will be no teachers left!! I spent 6 years in college (masters) and after 17 years was only making about 40 thousand a year. NOT WORTH IT!

  • I agree. I taught middle school for two years, and the out of the 100+ students Id have a year only a handful were really interested in learning. The rest were more concerned about what they were going to do later on, or how they plan to go this party or that concert. Our school system is too worried about the politics and the parents care less and less. Just look at the parent/teacher meetings. Less come each year.

  • McCain has proven himself, time & time; again. He has an excellent ability to answer questions, extemporaneously. B. Hussein Obama cannot. Obama needs a prompt. Obama needs cards. Obama does not do as well, on the fly, as McCain. Could that be, because he answers the question in accordance with his beliefs, and is not pandering? You be the judge.

  • 1) Warren said McCain was in a cone of silence.

    2) Warren found out McCain was not in a cone of silence.

    3) Warren again said McCain was in a cone of silence, asking McCain if it was comfortable.

At point number 3 Warren could have said, "I'm sorry folks, earlier I said McCain was in a cone of silence. He wasn't." That's what an honorable person would have done. But Warren's intent was to deceive. So instead he reaffirmed what he said at point 1.

Warren lied. He is a deceiver.

  • Warren admitted last night on Larry King that he did not know that McCain was still in the secret service SUV on the way to the church when this was announced. He was not aware of the security measures until after the forum was over.

  • EXACTLY!!!!!

  • His ideas on education show McCain as an idealistic neocon dreamer, time and again uttering vague mantra's such as 'choice & competition, choice & competition'.

His electoral promise is to give all American families a 'choice' and then, all of a sudden, POOF! All the failing schools have gone, all teachers are instantly qualified and capable, and every child is all of a sudden learning again.

That is the concept of 'free choice' taken to its ridiculous, and manipulative, extreme. Cheat!

  • Better yet, there should be a $6,000 per-child per-year tax credit so that every parent can send their kids to private schools.

  • JarJarbinx79 asks an important question, to which I have the answer.

Listen carefully to the question put to Obama: "Do you think better teachers should be paid better? They should be paid more than poor teachers?"

McCains answer PERFECTLY fits these TWO questions ('Yes, yes, and find bad teachers another line of work') PRIOR TO Warren asking him these questions! ('You answered so quickly' - right).

This clearly shows that McCain had prior knowledge and wasn't in any sound-proof cone. Cheat.

  • Yeah.......you can tell that he is cheating

He definatley has never talked like this before in any other interview I have seen

  • Yay for homeschooling!

  • How was he able to answer yes, yes, fine bad teachers? So much for fairness and "cone of silence"
