One of my all time favorite games! Still have my copy even though I gave my ps2 and other games to a friend a long time ago. A real hidden treasure. Definitely deserves a remake, sequel or update preserving the atmosphere and majority of the play mechanics.
reminds me of Valkyria chronicles. Maybe I should get this for the holiday, when going to some place else it's better to take the ps2 then the bulky 7th gen
lol like how you say feature of the 360... it happens so often im starting to think microsoft knows a way to get rid of the defect but dosnt so they can get more money >_<
I still play this game, but there is 1 problem. When you finish the game, you have nothing else to do than restart the game >< no different difficulties, no other mode =( But this game is amazing, they should make a new one
This kept me playing nonstop, love this game. Not many games have really been able to replicate this so far, but if you want something similar I'd try Valkyria Chronicles/ Zone of Enders GBA
I bought this game when i bought my ps2 and it was one of the funnest games I had played up to that point, didn't seem to get a lot of attention though but If there's another game like it I would love to play it... and sad that there's no sequel
Why do you have an Arnold-Austrian-British hybrid accent?
It makes the review better because I imagine you're talking while lifting weights and drinking tea.
Also because you're reviewing a game not many know of that I used to enjoy in the good old days when a good portion of games were actually interesting.
i have seen or played a game like this and they need to do an updated version or a part two on the PS3 and let you compete against player online in a multi player or do a co op online that would be cool
I remember watching a History Channel documentary about alternate history such as North and South China and North and South Japan. Ring of Red North(commie) japan vs Free Japan(south), then in Full Metal Panic TSR, North China PRC vs South China ROC(too bad they didnt use the real names PRC and ROC).
Is there an overall objective in this game in terms of the world map. I just got it, and i wanted to know if you like take over territory in the world map to win, or is it just used to move units and progress story???
the only thing i HATE about this game is that the only thing you can do is play through the story. and that´s it. no arcade/battle mode. no skirmish mode. you can´t even replay the missions. no map editor. no 2 player option. absolutely no options to speak of. I really enjoyed this game for it´s interesting story, great strategic game approach, the many ways of equipping your AFWs with troops, the balance with close and far away combat, changing day time and weather conditions. but once done
@megajonas I was thinking that.. ^_^ I have a copy of it but its sadly broken and I could never get past a certain point so I'm going to download it & get back into this classic! I loved the Vlakyria Chronicles anime but don't have a PS3 so never played the game! Number 2 is on the PSP but Jap only I think, also number 3 is coming to PSP except now you are on the other side (and its more like the first games style apparently)!
Nice review, very informative and funny. This game too a while for me to finish. It started off slow but got better when you learn more special moves. Well, that is the moves which make you shoot and move faster.
That would be pretty sweet... Although I think it would do better on the PSP. There's not much use for Dual Screen display but the extra processing power would be nice for the 3D stuff in the game.
Hey!Nice review (lol xbox ring of dead) anyway i got this game about a couple years ago and even a i played a little i really loved the gameplay...And now im going to start and if i can...End this good game! thanks

I love this game, but seriously, the last half of the game becomes ridiculously hard. and long.
With my 8 mechs, you want me to destroy 24 freaking mechs!? REALLY!? Sad to say, I had to cheat to finish it.

You should really go get a ps3, you can buy ring of red on the PSN store for ps3. Also Demon souls/Dark souls will steal your soul and your time...
