Piccolo is very easy to play. I am sharing my sister's account and I am in fifth grade. Right now I am playing flute, saxophone, and bassoon. If you already play flute, you should be able to know the fingerings on a piccolo. When you refer to the keys, they are not all the same including the pinky key and thumb keys. But if you know your fingerings on flute, you WILL be able to play a piccolo.

when i was 11 so 12 years ago (omg!) i asked my mum and teacher on parents evening if it would be possible for me to arrange to have piccolo lessons after school. they both laughed in my face and told me to think of a "normal" instrument to learn. 12 years on and i cant play anything at all and it breaks my heart :'(

@sammiedodgers Just because your parents and teacher crushed your dream doesn't mean you can't ever play the piccolo. The only reason that you haven't been able to play is that you haven't taken the time to buy a piccolo and practice. However, I would suggest starting with the flute because many people that play piccolo and flute started out on the flute, played it awhile, then began piccolo. I know from experience because many people in my school's top band (including me) haven't had a lesson.

@Riceball512 I've been playing piccolo for about four weeks, and getting pitching is difficult, you have to practice a lot. I've played the flute for about 10 years, and the major difference is you have to place the piccolo further up your lip than the flute :) just keep practising and it gets easier :) wonderful playing on the video though :)

I used to sit first chair in High School and first year of college. I gave up Flute & Piccolo and finaly sold My instruments 8 years ago...Now I wish I had not done those things because I completely disregarded the personal satisfaction and the stress relief it provided to Me. It would be ridiculous for Me to even attempt picking up these instruments again after so many years...Oh well, it's just a mistake I have to live with from now on. Atleast, I can have the joy of watching and listening.

@dylanh99 The piccolo is half-size flute and it has the same fingerings as its larger sibling, the standard transverse flute, but the sound it produces is an octave higher than written. I just saw it in wikipedia and I thought it's educating to know that. And also it's a haynes wood piccolo from 1985. - she said that. I hope that helped!

I play alto saxophone and for Christmas I decided I wanted a piccolo. I wish I was that good! I'm having trouble with the second octave. sometimes it takes me a while to find the correct tone. I still love it! Probably funner than sax being so loud. Great Video!
