This Lp and the Followup was done by the engineer Arif Mardin after the group's breakup months before in 1970..They'd gave ATCO their blessings to make these available, but gave no input to them..They were issued in 1971 and 1972.
Surely one of their greatest, written at a kitchen table I hear. Those 5 chords at the end, very unusual and yt, gut wrenching, make me give this this song their best, but I want to hear a live "Dance the night away" That jangley (Richenbacher) guitar gives me the wows
@07311952 At the time these were recorded, the group was splintering..Bruce's hatred for Baker was once again surfacing, and Clapton was getting weary of them fighting constantly..Finally,in Texas Clapton announced he was tired and didn't want to play with them anymore..Ginger agreed, and that was that..Clapton went with Baker to form Blind Faith, and Bruce went solo.
This is the most jazziest sounding of Cream's live stuff. They take turns playing off each other's leads. But at around the 5:00 mark they coalesce rising higher and higher and then take off into a frenzy as if having willd sex and achieving orgasm. Then all is quiet. Or it's like a wild car chase and in the end they crash into a brick wall. I mean who'd ever think of this in the studio let alone play it live for the first and only time ever. Cream took you to places no one has ever traversed.

This is the best live version, and a stunning example of the jazz sensibilities of the most powerful rock trio ever.
