I wonder what Karen Lesko is doing now?

I spoke with Mr.Rayburn before he died and he told me that he hated Ross Shafer..who he described as "The worst choice to host The Match Game"and I agree with Mr.Rayburn..Mr.Shafer is an obnoxious idiot.

@143AC Ross Shafer did a good job. Gene Rayburn is just mad because he got passed over. He was a legend though and he had good reason.

No. NOT in 1985! In the clip with Ross Schaeffer (sp?), Rayburn cited "the early '70s."

Per my research, I believe it happened in 1974.

Gene Rayburn can't host a future revival of "Match Game" because he died a long time ago.

@Jamescs007 Personally , I think Rich Little might.  They could write questions that would give him the opportunity to do his impressions. I also thought Fred Travelena would also have been good for the same reason until he died.

I'm not so sure that the nipple slip was editted out of the original show. In this retrospective, Gene says it was. I think he is mistaken.

I have a copy of this episode that aired on GSN. And when it aired, the Nipple Slip was INDEED edited out of the show. There may be some airings now that could have it in, but for the most part, it's not there.

In Reality I really don't think that Gene Rayburn was too old to Host another Match Game Season . I think what it was most people in the game show industry didn't like Gene Rayburn very well .

I think Match Game 90 would have lasted a lot longer if Gene would have hosted it and they did away with the Match Up part of the game and stick with the original format.

Actually, I read up somewhere that Match Game '90 ended prematurely because they couldn't find a decent time slot for it to be settled because of local news broadcasts taking over.

Was Ross Shafer hosting "Match Game" at this time or was this before 1990? Gene Rayburn looks just like he did on the 1982 MG finale.

You know, Rayburn should have hosted the 1990 version. He was older, but I'm sure he would have done a better job..especially since a lot of panelists also reappeared on the Shaffer version.

ABC thought Gene was too old for the job. The pilot for the '90 version was hosted by Bert Convy, but he got a brain tumor and was unable to host, so Ross Shaffer was brought in.

this clip is from when Ross Shafer hosted "The Late Show" for FOX back in 1988 when he was a replacement sub-host for Joan Rivers who got fired a year earlier
