for some reason no one understands how good this guy is... i mean yeah he's seen as hall of fame but he's def one of top 10-15 pg... i mean he wasnt so flashy but he was so strong... had amazing iq... i mean here he's around 35+ and still averaging 14 ppg as 3rd-4th option to kobe/shaq/karl (karl was injured this season halfway though)

the fact that karl and gary just got into the team and were in sync with the team is amazing... look at the miami heat now.

The most impressive thing about him was his defense, being the only PG with Defensive Player of the Year. Let's face it, people just don't get noticed for being great defenders, it's always a side-thought. Steve Nash is about as famous as Payton, and he has some of the worst defense ever.

the lakers season by Payton was really under rated. this team was playing great run and gun basketball, everybody was scoring and GP having 8-9 assists per game. Then Phil Jackson decided to go back to the triangle and that put Payton playing bad, waiting for the ball to shoot 3 pointers....he fought back and won a title in Miami when everybody said he was "done", hitting crucial shots in the 2006 finals...one of the best ever, GP!!!
