You have an awesome voice, it sounds really villain. Great job!
However, no matter how awesome English voice is,it still can't beat Japanese dub. The way the actors speak has so much emotions, those emotions are often lost when dubbed in English. It's just my personal preference, I only watch anime in original Japanese though I don't understand most of the conversations. To me Sephiroth will always be Toshiyuki Morikawa. Sorry, no offence.
@irmina1 Tell me something I don't know already XD. Toshiyuki Morikawa IS Sephiroth! It's his lead I follow while trying to make it my own.
Also... I cringe when I listen to this now... because I'd like to say I'm better in my later stuff XD. But I still keep this to show where I've come from.
Also... The meaning is kept in the original language, and Squeenix is just failing at trying to copy it... because they try to hard to copy instead of working with what they have.
@irmina1 Ohhhh, thank you for that :). Really touched me!
George... Yeah, he disappoints me a lot... Apparently he never wanted the role... and instead of casting Crispin Freeman who wanted the role so badly, that auditioned for him three times, they picked someone who wasn't the least bit interested.
Then again, with a few exceptions, a lot of the FF english is pretty weak... Mainly thanks to the director.
@irmina1 continued: Have a look at Dragonball Z and Metal Gear Solid: They are some of my very very VERY few games and series where I think The English not only matched but surpassed the original Japanese.
Thank you for commenting though, means a lot. :) If I can't match Morikawa.............. Hell I can at least try to be the best English voice XD. I mean... come on. Is ANYONE going to be able to match Morikawa's performance? The subtlety, the malice... yet the allure too. He's PERFECT!
@Aussieroth7 Yes, Morikawa is PERFECT! So subtle, so malice, so alluring. He's my most favorite seiyuu along with Takahiro Sakurai. You are awesome, too. Keep up the good work!
This is a very believable Sephiroth interpretation. I honestly prefer it when actors become their character, not simply act like them. This simply too badass.
@tflip1000 I agree with you on this. Ive seen alot of people fall into that trap. I always enjoy Davids takes on Sephiroth... Has grown on me. makes me cringe everytime someone comments and stalks him to say "Hey you know what... i dont like this version... Too Darth vader like" C'mon... When has David EVER tried to sound like Darth Vader? NEVER... not once... Also to. What i like about this? Is that David puts alot of emotion into Sephiroth instead of sounding the same.
You know i think you've improved your Sephiroth a lot since the time when you did this. You seem to put a lot more meaning into your words than here. They seem a little two lightly peppered with emotion here. when you say "one whit in return" I think you put too much emphasis on sounding that way that it's a bit rushed and not with enough emphasis
I don't think I can. 1) Sephiroth to me is Toshiyuki Morikawa. 2) Unlike the Disney voice mimics, I can't mimic someone else and still make it my own, and 3) I'm one of the people who prefer the Jap Dub to the Eng. Some Eng voices I prefer over the Jap, otherwise the original Jap dub is superior especially Toshiyuki's Sephiroth. But if you want a George Newbern version of Sephiroth, I recomend Varker316. I just can't change my vision. I don't think i'm what you're looking for. Thank you anyway.
Getting deeper would probably ruin Sephiroth's character. He is pretty, handsome, not some bulky man who would carry a raspy voice. If anything I think he may be just a tad too deep, but he plays the character well =D. I'm not a big fan of Sephiroth, but I could imagine him with this kind of voice (although the accent sometimes throws him off >_>) Good job David. ^_~ (Although I still think the dragon one is perfect :o)
I don't know, deep voices usually work for villains of course, but look at his body, face and actual character. He's well spoken, he's tall, he's evil yet alluring, and well I think making him deeper would make him sound too husky. Raspy, I think I have a feeling of what you mean and I think that too, may kill the character a bit. Look up Toshiyuki Morikawa's Sephiroth, that's my main influence. He's mullifluous, rich, and deep but not James Earl Jones. I don't think I can change it, sorry mate.
...Christopher Lee is my favourite actor to impersonate XD. So I can do him for you if you want. But have a look at Varker316 if you want a good Diz voice.
..................Well that's a first! I had two or three people saying that I'm too deep, but not deep enough!? I'm actually complemented! Raspy..... Define..... Raspy, like Solid Snake Raspy? No I wouldn't make myself sound like a smoker, but is that what you mean by raspy?
I'm thinking of making another one, one that doesn't suddenly change the effect and volume in my delivery. Though I do like this one a lot, I'd still love to have a cleaner rendition. What do you guys think?
Oh you mean that dreaded screw up on KH1 with Lance Bass? Yeah, I have a feeling the caster was fired for that. George Newbern does him now... I personally find him a little weak, meaning his delivery is monotonous, flat and... just dead. Toshiyuki Morikawa is the only one who can do him properly (though who ever's doing Sephiroth in the French dub is actually quite good.) Still, I'll take George over Lance ANYDAY! Lance as the original English voice of Sephiroth... What a blunder and a half!!!
@Aussieroth7 Oddly enough I was gonna comment about Newbern to you, I listened to his Dissidia intros and asked myself "What the heck is he doing?, What kind of delivery is this?". I don't think I've ever heard more emotionless dialogue (unfortunatly not emotionless as in a badass cold way, no just weak.
Thanks, I take pride in this, and yeah, I do baritone as well as bass :D. It took me a while to get my rendition right, but as I mentioned, two actors really helped out. Glad you liked it :).
Yeah maybe, though I do like this for Sephiroth. It's the first voice I've ever created... Plus if you listen to Toshiyuki Morikawa's voice (The Japanese Sephiroth) His voice is somewhat... deeper than mine. Probably because he projects from his stomach, like most Japanese do, rather than his chest. I just tried to follow his example, and as it says, Christopher Lee's accent was an influence too. Maybe I'll change the timbre again in future, but I am proud of this one. Thanks for the feedback.
While at the same time, sorry if that sounded a little imperious, and I'll think about doing an Ansem voice. But you want a good Ansem interpretation? Damian8048Auditions has an AMAZING Ansem rendition, especially since he made the character his own!

It reminds me of James Earl Jones' voice, but by god!
