Hi i still live in waimiha this is a great site and footage of the mill Rose & Sonny where my parents there are not many of us from when i went to school there or any of the famillies left in the district. But it is great to read some of the comments
I went through there on my way home to Hamilton yesterday with my mother and grandfather. i loved it as my grandfather was raised out their. If anybody has any information regarding Waimiha or "Mannie Gall" i would love to hear from you. Kind Regards, Trudy. (Mannie's granddaughter)
I am from waimiha lived there all my child hood till 15.. We went back to visit and was sad to see the school has gone to rack an ruin. Waimiha is but a skeleton of what it use to be.
Great footage just how I remember it, we lived here for a year. I also remember some fantastic story's that were told to my Dad about some of the great men that worked here at the mill, I am actually looking and wondering if Rose is still there? We went to Taumarunui High School together back in 1975 76
hi, yes i knew Sonny from my times at the mill and sports club. Great man with a big heart! used to love his big smile.. i remember sonny working the bench saw in the mill with marmite i think it was.. ive also heard some stories about how good a rugby player he was too!! living in london currently,
ill be heading down there in January for week, looking forward to it
@griffi5 - Very good memory, Narnite was Uncle Sonnys brother who was Uncle Eddie. Still good to see the old photos of home. To the stories told to me, Uncle Sonny was the Jonah Lomu of his error and this was told to me when Waimiha had the 75th School Jubilee. Phillip Rite was my Grandfather.
Fantastic... ive been going to waimiha since 1987, i have video footage of the mill running from 1994. I have spent time in the International logging truck onsite, carting logs from the district with the driver Joe Pittams.. great memories, and thank you George for keeping the mill they way it is..
