i apologise for the ignorance - but why is it called metal when it doesn't sound like any other metal ive heard before. metal is one of only two genres of music i avoid but this sounds good.

Power Metal has a lot of double bass and clean vocals and usually with a epic theme just like this one. It is highly focused on "clean" vocals rather than growling and screaming.

Power Metal bands examples : Celesty, Sonata Arctica, DragonForce, Highland Glory and many others.

@HelloOtter Contrary to popular belief, the Metal genre is monolithic. The range of sounds across the sub-genres is astounding. Listen to a progressive metal band called 'Opeth' for example, their older stuff in particular has growls and a death metal feel, whereas if you listen to say, the song called 'hope leaves'. Do it, give it a listen :). It's clean as *insert something very clean here*.

i hate slipknot, IMO they're sellout bullsh1t, but they're a diferent kind of emotion, heavy shit (see Fleshgod Apocalypse - The Violation, blows slipknot out the water) is a way of releasing aggression in people, wheras power metal and the likes is about epic storytelling, but in a beautiful way, listen to the likes of this or say Fairyland, - Score To A New Beginning; incredible musicianship and talent there too
