  • Lawler actually legitimately hated ECW and Heyman. Some say it was heat from an old angle he did with Heyman where he broke his jaw on purpose.

  • what ppl need to relise is wwe was paying for ecw almost and did alot of this for promotion

  • who won this match?

  • @tyrone37

The fans. It was the fans who won. [/cliche wrestling bullshit]

  • Jim Ross is halfway between O.o and -_- lol

  • like if solomonster sent you

  • Did Lawler partake in the Tupelo Concessions hardcore match in 78/79?

  • @darkstar3x16 Lol When im an old ass id try to do the same thing, why not! LOL

  • @stylinnprofylin your right mate but, he did it after all for his own benerfit, where are the top stars of ECW now?...Gone.RIP ECW 1993-2001

  • @WWFKaneFanXX

Shane Douglas is doing very well. I believe he's the manager at a Pittsburgh Target.

  • @ Pizon ..... Jerry Lawler is probably the most decorated wrestler of all time. He's had 164 championships throughout his career. That's more than any WWE employee. True, he hasn't had a WWE championship but that may well have to do with the fact that he owns his own promotion.

He's also one of the best heels and one of the funniest, along with Roddy Piper.

  • @hubbuddy

Who's the girl in the green shirt behind Lawler @ 0:27 ? His date?

  • @darkstar3x16 you're an idiot......he's wrestled anybody and everybody in wrestling

  • @jdsrazor66

Hello, sir. I just wanted to congratulate you on being one of the 15 people on the internet that knows the difference between There, Their, and They're and in what context to use them in. Would you like to join the grammar Nazis in our quest for world wide internet domination? We're invading Poland in September of 2012. You in?

  • Wwe wrestle in big arena's :) Ecw in bingo halls hahaha :) Jerry lawler as heel was so funny :)

  • Lawler is taking this in my view from the ICW CWA fued back in the 80s where Randy Savage came on tv from the ICW. Also that was what ICW was people that couldnt get booked. Not to mention Heyman stole everything CWA/Memphis wrestling already did on a weekly basis.

  • @TommyCraigPateyNL1 Jerry Lawler never won any title in WWE.

  • I worked for RAW several nights and saw wrestlers from every organization sitting and eating at the same table together. I'm pretty sure Vince has a monopoly on big time wrestling.

  • WWF and ECW always had a great relationship. WCW on the other hand, they wanted to take all of ECW's talent to compete against WWF at that time. So WWF and ECW were cool with each other. Both companies helped each other.

  • @stylinnprofylin little confused i looked up definition for funding all have diferent explanations can u explain what funding means please

  • @stylinnprofylin Nail on the head! Vince invested somewhere near a half million in ECW and sent them talent. Lawler, Furnas and Lafon, Al Snow and others. Vince and Heyman where more partners than people think! Not even a week after ECW closed Heyman was on RAW and head writer at WWE.

  • @mazzaroti lead writer* . The head writer is Vince.

  • ECW is Escape from New York. lol

  • good commentating

  • Charles Scaggs vs. Owen Hart could have, and should have, been a five-star match. It's too bad it was a throwaway, and this is coming from a staunch ECW mark.

  • 0.35 sounds like King is describing TNA lol

  • fuck jerry the bitch ass lawler ecw 4 life !!!

  • @AndrewsOpinion15 dude wwf was way better

  • @TommyCraigPateyNL1 no he never

  • Hell, Memphis is the birthplace of Hardcore Wrestling

  • wwe rule bitch???

  • did jerry lawler ever win a wwf/e title?

  • @whycantihavemyownuse not sure about the wwf/e title but he did win over 100 titles in his illustrious career

  • Lawler was so awesome by this time..... and was that Rocky Maiba´s music??

  • @illnessexclusive They never did anything to him, he's just an asshole to people that could kick his ass

  • It'd be sweet if ROH and TNA would do an angle like this.

  • jerry's right, ecw sucks

  • damn why jerry lawler hate ecw so much? what they do to him?

  • Shoot? It's a work.

  • It's absolutely shocking how many people think this is real. As if ECW is really invading RAW. Or as if this isn't an angle.

  • No talent bums, huh, King? While Flash Funk is in the ring? Fail on so many levels.

  • @HellsOnlyBelle It's not real.

  • @FartScrap I *know* it's not real, Captain Obvious, thank you for coming along and telling me what I already know. My point was, keyfabe or not, his comments damning ECW are ironic considering who's in the ring. Go spoil some kid about the Tooth Fairy.

  • this was in the good old days when the king was at his best. great character, great actor.

its a shame that these days he doesnt seem to care about wrestling anymore.

  • Wow yeah, ECW the company nobody knows and yet people still chant it in arenas around the world, and even Vince's attempts at killing it with his joke replica show still didnt do it. ECW forever, fuck WWE and its sports entertainment bullshit

  • @GolgothaDesolace It was an angle. It's not real. This was when Vince McMahon was giving ECW money to stay in business.

  • That was sooo funny

  • Ha, yeah Lawler all of those no talent bums..............like the guy you guys hired, Flash Funk aka 2 Cold Scorpio FROM ECW who is right in the ring as you say that???

  • Just a heads up, freedom of speech in the today's wwe as it pertains to fan signs is officially No More!!! Trust me on that one folks.

  • classic lawler, i love it.

  • jerry lawler basically just started the allaince invasion

  • Define irony: King talking down ECW for being "small time" while an ECW wrestler (2 Cold Scorpio) is in the ring.

  • thats the rocks original music playing in the background lol. it actually sounds similar to the music he uses in his later years which i always thought sucked as it reminded me of this crap

  • Why cant the WWE let the king speak his fucking mind like this these days??? I miss attitude

  • @jrlynn79 king? ha im glad they made it scripted cause anything he says is always bs when it comes to ecw. i miss attitude as well but i also miss ecw and thats why i watch tna other than wwe. dont get me wrong i like wwe for their wrestlers(i watch in respect for them, i do not listen to the commentators or anything else i just watch the in ring stuff)but wwe is crap cause its scripted and they fire every good wrestler they have for stupid reasons, and they fire their girls for their weight.

  • thats not shooting lol it was an angle change the description!

  • He promoted ECW, Tells them were it is and everything

  • You know no one really know what ECW was until Vince Brought it back. But everyone know what WCW was and what is was about!. I wish WCW could come back it would be amazing and let Eric Bischoff have another shoot at Vince and I know that Eric would win!

  • @JhnTft He is getting another shot, it's called TNA and within 8 years, that ship's already on it's way down. Just like WCW, TNA is nothing but WWE grave yard.

  • @JhnTft nobody knew what ECW was until mcmahon brought it back? wtf are you talking about son. i used to watch ecw back in the 90's

  • @gannable Yeah you watch i but you really didn't know about it until Vince brought it back.

  • the rocky maivia theme song, hadn't heard that in ages

  • he's right i didn't know anything about ECW

  • it wasn't a work heyman and lawler hated each other learn the facts!

  • Lawler is one of the best promo guys of all time.

  • Whatever they were talking about...for me, it is disrespectful towards the two wrestlers in the ring to push some other storyline bullshit when a match is going on :/

  • Paul Heyman has always really annoyed the hell out of me.

  • King lawler that was a good shoot promo!!

  • Hahahahahaha! King is funny! "Manhattan centre is an arena and not a bingo hall!" LOL

  • @ranier001

Bouncers? LOL. Security at the building as well as WWE production staff would confiscate the signs when they observed something they didn't like. Most buildings now have security just screen the signs at the door now.

  • @ranier001

Not back then but they do regularly at today's events. If it is Anti Cena or advertise a non WWE talent, or anything else that they don't like ... if it is critical of today's WWE talents such as "Another headlock, Randy?" ... in terms of mocking that wrestler for doing a move regularly during a match like Orton does .... than they will confiscate it.

  • @DarkMatchJobber

I followed this for a bit and when Michael Cole and Tazz were commenting together, some people said that the face and heel commentators combination like J.R. and Jerry Lawler were considered old fashioned and outdated. They said that Michael Cole and Tazz were more interesting.

Now once Michael Cole and Jerry Lawler no longer use the face and heel commentators gimmick, some people miss Jerry's old school heel commentating.

  • Was this the time when WWE was losing in ratings to WCW?

  • This is a work shoot meaning its a work but Lawler meant every damn word he said about ECW. Also

  • is that Ice Train from old WCW in the ring with Owen Hart?

  • @w0lf101 are you fucking kidding me? That 2 Cold Scorpio not Ice Train. Beside Ice Train have 22 inch arms.

  • @Bloodsport1

    Looks like the same dude...

  • "you believe in freedom of speech? WELL I DON'T!"

lol I miss King as a heel.

  • lol lawler is the king of trash talking!!!

  • Then Lawler goes into the lion's den, THE ECW ARENA, and needs security to escort him out b/c we dont play in Pa.

  • I know its a work and all, but I totally agree with Jerry Lawler here!

  • This was classic stuff: The ECW guys showing up at RAW in NY, Lawler & Cornette invading the ECW Arena, Taz burning a fan's WWF shirt, Dreamer vs. Lawler at November to Remember..

The 90s was a great time to be a wrestling fan.

  • amen

  • between the start of the vid and 0:12, you could see the guy grab another ecw rules sign, outlined. that made me LOL. just shows how good ECW was.

  • it was a 'work' between both the companies for a small event to generate more publicity on both sides

  • It may have been a work, but the hate between Lawler and Heyman was and is very real, dating back to when Paul was a manager in the CWA.

  • @warmaker911 and I think it was a smart business move

  • Who won the match?

  • The King invading ECW was awsome because there was genuine hate on both sides.

  • "you probably wont recognize the Manhattan center because its an arena not a bingo hall"

    that made me LOL

  • EXTREMELY CRAPPY WRESTLING

    ECW :D

  • 3:30 "As long as the Neighborhood Watch doesn't need to be informed that you're in the neigborhood!"...LOL!!!...he said that 'cause King likes to date girls that are "barely legal" (18-19yrs)...LOL!!!...(basically calling him a child molestor)

  • @rocksvids08

Actually Lawler was accused of Statutory rape and banging a 13 year old, but she rescinded her statement and they dropped the charges.

Lawler loves young pussy thats for sure.

  • @rocksvids08 who cares, like chicks around 18-20 arent at the apex of their beauty. its only innate to man's nature to like women like that. its only in our sick society where normal behavior is called abnormal

  • Fuck you

  • it wasn't a work heyman and lawler hate each other! lawler legit broke heymens jaw!

  • lol @ clarence mason distracting owen hart

  • you misunderstand. Lawler was putting ECW over. He says it in both the Rise and Fall of ECW and Hardcore History DVDs. But ya 70s and 80s NWA was almost exactly like 90s ECW. Hardcore Brawling will never die.

  • back when wrestling was AWESOME!

  • then like a week or two later ECW did come I remember it was around March 1997

  • it just funny that they are talking about the ECW wrestlers as no bodies when Flash Funk wrestled there as 2 Cold Scorpio, holding the tag & television titles.

  • Well if WCW could be screwed WWF out of bussines and Then AOL Time Warner screwed WCW and if ECW not be screwed by TNN we can have only ECW show full of extreme

  • fuck lawler. PHILLY RULES

  • i still dont understand wwe giving ecw free airtime on raw, however mr monday night was awesome

  • becouse Vince thought it will be good for ratings doing monday night wars dumbass

  • @ECWrulez360 U know ths is what started the attitude era right, yeah this did help that snake vinces ratings alot fom gettin his ass handed 2 him by WCW

  • And ECW wanted to do first ECW pay per view so WWF promoted them becouse Vince never thought ECW is kind a treat like WCW was at the time

  • Wow that was pretty cool. They gave ECW a free plug. I think Jim Ross had something to do that. Ross and Heyman worked with each other in WCW.

  • They also can't stand each other. It had more to do with Vince wanting to shake his show up. It was also a test drive for the Attitude era. Paul overstates his contribution to Attitude, but a LOT of his ideas were taken, and it's a damn shame. I don't think you'll ever see him with TNA, for a bunch of reasons, which is unfortunate, because if any booker not employed by Vince already deserves the blank chequebook that comes with working with Dixie Carter, it's Paul Heyman.

  • yeah but lawler is currently not like that;

hes quite boring nad no longer supporting the heels :(

  • This was during the time WWF and ECW had a working agreement. Alot people didn't know at the time.

  • Ross "We believe in freedom of speech here."

LOL. Really? Is that why WWE confiscates signs at every single event these days?

  • yeah every cena sucks sign. freedom of speech my butt

  • @MystikWizard not true.. I made three signs that had nothing to do with the WWE or wrestling and they did not confiscate any of them.. they were even shown on TV up close.

  • @JMitchProductions

Okay ... big deal. WWE confiscates signs that are anti-WWE, or Anti-Cena, or Pro TNA or Pro TNA superstars. And they do confiscate signs that are against what they want fans to think. That was my point, which you seemed to miss entirely.

  • i miss the OLD King.

  • Actually ECW didn't start running the Manhattan Center until '99. The WWF was the only wrestling company to have ran that building at this point in time (Feb. '96) The WWF was returning to original home of Raw after a 2 year absence.

  • lawler is such an idiot by saying that ECW wouldnt recognize the manhattan center when the fact is that the manhattan center was one of the three ECW headquarters. so the wwf was actually going to an ECW arena.

  • I d say Paul E got some heat for the neighbourhood watch comment (type in doug gilbert shoot if you dont get it)

  • Lawler is in the Top #5 heels of all time!

  • lawler was one of the reasons i watched wrestling he's funny and cool

  • Its all scripted didnt vince buy it.

  • Back in the 90's no. Vince didn't buy ECW until 2006... This was a shoot

  • 2 wrestling geniuses- Jerry Lawler and Paul Heyman

  • what a fud lawler is here, jr is well uncomfortable, is this kayfabe?

  • oh mister Jeerry lawler wrestlers went to ecw because they wnat to be realstic not fucvking Fake like WWE/F

  • LMAO yep ECW were soooo realistic. 27 chair shots to the face in one match and the guy is still fighting. ECW was built on the fact that it was edgy and over the top, realism was the last thing on their mind. Thats not a bad thing though, but WWF/WWE were way more realistic than ECW. ECW had good storylines and good promo guys, but it was built on violence and not on wrestling.

  • Who's Owen Hart wrestling

  • You don't know him ???

It's 2 Cold Scorpio or Flash Funk in WWF.

  • thanks

  • dude he's a warrior fan what'd you expect...

  • @warriorsfan19 Flash Funk

  • @warriorsfan19 flash funk

  • fucken fatso

  • the manhattan center was one of the ECW headquarters. king made no sense by saying that. the other three headquarters were the hammerstein ballroom wich is in the same building as the manhattan center. also the elk lodge in queens. and the ECW arena in philadelphia.

  • Dude... Lawler said WCW... wasn't this early-1997, when saying WCW was still pretty taboo?

  • It was likely said in order to make people think that the ECW/WWF angle was real and legitimate.

  • i loved old ecw too, but this video reminds me of how great wwe used to be also. Owen & 2 Cold were having a cool match. Man, wrestling sure has gone downhill fast.

  • funny.

ive watched "the king" wrestle in old matches on video, while he was in his prime. he had that old school style that would put todays fan asleep. yet, king talked trash about guys who actually worked hard

  • But you forget, people marked the hell out for a piledriver in his prime.

This was a good feud though. WWE crosspromoting ECW did wonders for ECW at that point of time.

  • *WWF

  • Oh you're such an insider aren't you lol. Loser.

  • Paul's "neighborhood watch" comment was hilarious.

  • old ecw was the shit fuck lawler

  • haha yer man

    copy and paste

    if you think

    Paul Heyman

    changed

wrestling as we know it today

  • now it IS shit.

    I miss old ECW.

  • Part work/part shoot

He meant what he said but also had to say bad thing about ECW because of the angle at the time.

  • OWEN HEART LUV U ALWAYS U RULE xXx, daaaaaaaaaaaaaamn bout da convo

  • OH EHM GEE it's a shoot. Paul Heyman and Lawler HATE each other because Lawler cares too much about what other people are doing.

  • thats why he put over ECW when he was promoting mMemphis, he gave them TV time in Memphis.

  • who Lawler? Lawler gave them tv time? I didnt know Lawler had that much power in wwe

  • no when he allowed them on USWA TV hence the word Memphis.

  • Go Lawler XD

  • work

  • WORK!!!!

  • Jerry Lawler - One of the best and underrated (for wwf / wwe at least) mic men on the wrestling circuit.....take alook at the infamous "feud" with Andy Kaufman, had the 'world' fooled...!!

  • was this real? or scripted?

  • what was Owen's manager doing?

  • This is why guys like Lawler is golden on the mic. He's got you fooled into thinking he's "hypocritical." Lawler co-owned the USWA promotion in Memphis. They did some cross-promoting with ECW down in around 96 or 97. If Lawler hated ECW "for real", he would not have done business with them, let alone give them TV time in Memphis. Lawler was doing yet another really good convincing promo. BTW, Memphis was hardcore long before ECW came along. Check out the matches with the Moondogs/Fabulous Ones

  • ECW couldn't hold a candle to Memphis back in the day. Mid-South Wrestling was doing concession stand brawls when Paul Heyman was still getting crap wiped off his ass.

  • The neighbourhood watch joke was aimed at Lawler being a possible pedophile. I dunno LOL!

I remember reading all my PWI magazines, soaking up all I could about ECW before they arrived on RAW that following, week,I skipped school just to see it,& boy I wasent dissapointed.

  • Lawler was charged with statutory raped in Louisville, Ky in 96. I believe all charges were eventually dropped

  • neighborhood watch joke???

  • If Lawler really hated ECW like you say, he would have not even shown up to Raw that night...all of that was a work.

  • probably a bit of both.

  • ecw is extremely crappy wrestling, only poo poo and tommy lynn stubbs like it

  • Wooooooah.....CALM DOWN Lawler!

  • haha the kid had a back-up sign

  • Lawler was working.

Keep in mind, it was Lawler's "feud" with ECW that gave ECW it's first real national exposure. If he really hated the company, there's no way he would've agreed to put them over like that.

To be honest, there's no real reason for Lawler not to like ECW since the style was very similar to Memphis (look at the "Concession Stand Brawl, for example.)

So, no, he's not a hypocrite, just really really good on the microphone. Heyman to, come to think of it.
