Love revisiting this, and wish he would include it on his tours again! If he was sick that night, its understandable that he might mess up the lyrics but then thats Taylor. He has missed very few times sick in the years since, and that was a long ole tour. Always the performer and always giving his all.
I love revisiting this video. . .I was there that night. . .he was deathly ill with bronchitis and had been on vocal rest all day. . .he decided to do this song at the last minute because it meant so much to him as a kid. . .it was actually the first song he ever learned harmonica on, so he announced that he felt such a close connection to it that he wanted to do it. The whole place went wild. We knew he was all over the place with the lyrics. . .but the performance and music was outstanding. ;p
Yeah, he missed v. 3, sang v. 5 instead and wound up reprising it later; and he completely confused the third bridge, after which he pantomimed insanity, which to me indicates he knew he screwed up! But the idea of mixing harmonica (original recording) and horn (the solo instrument Hodgson toured with in 2006) is interesting for the interplay between them, and Hicks' gritty r&b vocalizing towards the end is a nice American touch. All in all, a pleasant effort.
Awesome song yes but the singing performance sucks!!!! Very nice work on the harmonica though. My hats off on that part. One must be very carfull covering Iconic songs of Iconic singers. Bad choice Taylor....
Awesome song and performance. Never liked american idol but stumbled on this song...excellent...still hate american idol. Used to think this guy was a doofus, but I guess that's why i hate ai..so much marketing and b.s.

Love Taylor's harmonica and vocals on this song.

Taylor should come with Roger Hodgson on all of his tours just so when this song comes up again, he can wail that harmonica.

@ConKing Weird that he loved this song as a kid and yet totally skipped a few lines of the song and replaced them with something from a later verse
