Thank you for producing this story. I hope it is the beginning of similar little known stories that make up the history of our country being told. It should be shown to the current generation--and educators, and to affirm the contributions of those that made the valiant efforts that you've documented.
Thanks so much for the documentary about the era for which I grew up in the
District of Columbia. I never got to go on the show, but I so enjoyed the program and recognizing some of my playmates who did appear on the show. Later in my adult years, I worked with a few of the teens who were considered the regulars on the show... city of intellect, beauty, and charm...
I remember seeing this on PBS when I was visiting the DC area a few years back. Awesome story! Great job on the documentary. I been looking it ever since!
Thanks so much for this documentary. It brought back memories of growing up in DC in the 60s. I never got to go on the show, but I loved watching and hand dancing to it! I'll have to get a copy of the dvd.
I am the producer of this Emmy Award winning documentary, Dance Party: The Teenarama Story. It is also noted by the Paley Media Center in LA and NYC as a documentary of historical importance. The doc examines the success of an African American teen TV dance show of the 1960s. Available on DVD. Order from the website (products). The website is the name of the documentary.
