@patiatarim Exactly! I think you'll find that more often than not, the best Satie is played with a remarkable lack of technique. The spontaneousness of "how I want to play" against the beauty of his notes can make an awesome effect. P:
That said, there might be a few too many changes in timing in this version.. o; I think, when there is a section played twice in a row (repeats), it's safest to play them at the same speed.
slower!! I dont care what the notes say, it sounds 10 times better slower. Technically... not so bad, but you're playing it too mechanically... Meditate!!
Moderate performance. When it becomes louder I wouldn't accelerate. This goes at the expense of calmness and meditation. All in all it was too loud for my taste but this could also be because the camera was to close to the piano.
Please explain what you mean by "sick". Using a word such as that means nothing at all to anyone except to you, perhaps. It might not be the word you actually want to use. Perhaps if you explained what you mean, you would come closer to what you really experience when you hear this music. Thanks.
Just Saying i Like the song, I don't play piano that well, probably not as good as you do. When i have read gnossienne on manuscript it doesn't give much indication on tempo and shit like that. So maybe he's leaving it for the musician to play it how he feels it should be played. So when i describe it as "sick" which only means something to me then that is my own way of viewing the song.
I like the video, but i have the feeling the piano is not tuned correctly and you make some timing mistakes on the part where u have to speed up. Also when u speed up, that part has to be played louder then the other parts.
c'est vraiment tres beau; j'aimerais beaucoup avoir la partition;pourriez vous me la faire parvenir svp; je reve de savoir jouer ce morceau;mille merci;;;;;;;;;
Musicandtoys & I have something in common. Since I rediscovered this piece I've been enraptured. Your performance is perfect! I wish I could play it :D
I have been trying to find out the name of this piece for nearly 30 years.
I heard it a long time ago & wanted to play it on the piano. I did not know what it was called or who it was by. I have been searching all this time & just found it here on You tube. Thankyou so much - my life long search is over!
Also some gnossienne variants are in the last film with the great Peter Sellers: "Being There." If you haven't seen it (it's almost 30years old now!), I recommend it highly.
Erik Satie has his own entry on imdb. It lists 37 movie credits for him--about evenly divided between the Gymnopedies and the Gnossiennes.
nice try. condescension does not apply here, or to the CONSTRUCTIVE comments people have left. as indicated by your first comment (You're a jerk), your taking away from progress here. i guess digression might apply. condescension: voluntary descent from one's rank or dignity in relations with an inferior
Ah, sorry, my last comment wasn't for the piano player, I was responding to cedar a few posts down. For some reason my browser posts replies to comments at the top of the list instead of at the bottom of the comment.
far too clunky. where is your balance? its all at the same level. try to picture an image as you're playing, and play responding to the image. gently. but you can play it. which i guess is a start.
Not bad at all, but you can clearly see that you are simply transribing the sheet music at some points. The brain reads in chunks, and at the more dificult parts you seem to be clumping notes together. Erik Satie is very hard though.
I love Satie. So French. His music is best at night. The music evokes such a passion for longing to me... :( Nice work, but this song is even better when played s l o w e r with a sense of loneliness.
Good but it needs a much lighter quality - the transitions also need to 'sing' - at times the tempo seems plodding rather than steady. I'm not a piano teacher so I have no idea how you would do everything I'm suggesting! I just love music and listen to a lot.
Good effort, but try not to 'bang' out the notes. Try to play this piece less mechanically and with more emotion in it. Too much use, or rather too much improper use, of the pedal. Too fast in places.
tempo is off --too fast in places. re-record without clicking sound in background and wacth for consistancy... you're about sa 7 out of 10 on this ---good luck!
a good effort... it's quite rigid, however. the dynamics and tempo really sway in this one, it's much less regular. really try to FEEL the song, which i realize is very difficult when you're at all challenged by the technical aspects of the song.
nice but maybe you should play this one slower and lighter, it's a very aerian piece I think, but it's just my point of view and satie wrote it without a lot of precisions about the way to play it.
I hope you will understand what I mean because I am french and my english is a bit poor...
I love this Gnossienne! I learned it just a few days ago, and it's really wonderful, even though it has a ghostly sound. I like the way you play it, too. Good work
i don't understand the tecnique but sounds good.

the consistence should be define
too much jumping from one tempo to another
you cant do that to satie
satie is the precursor to modern ambient music. gentle yet somewhat eccentric .
but always gentle
nice try.
