  • interesting videos. thanks for sharing information

  • TOMMY IS MY HERO

  • It scares the shit out of me that many Americans are willing to trust corporations over the government.

Corporations don't give two shits about anyone, where as the government is by the people.

  • Im Canadian and our health care is good but were nothing like France, Italy and England. Just watch the movie Sicko and you'll see.

  • In France and Italy you have a system where socialized medicine is paid for by users, so you still have price signals. A problem in both Canada and the US is that healhtcare is paid for by a third party, an employer or the government. If people paid for insurance and paid for more care out of pocket they would demand lower prices and better service like every other part of the economy.

  • Americans are scared of government control but are willing to let corporations control who lives and who dies. millions of people die every year from no coverage or insurance not paying for their treatment. yet we talk of government take over. the insurance companies makes millions from pples blood, yet we talk of some ideals that are soooooooooo unfair

  • They don't control who lives or who dies, they provide a service, they develop new technology and sell it for a profit. Anyone who can pay can get service most people pay insurance which covers costs, government helps some people and non for profits help some people. the US has the highest survival rate for most diseases and there is no proof that poorer people are less healthy.

  • We Americans seem like barbarians compared to the Canadians. We don't take care of the uninsured, we just let them die. It's called greed and selfishness, propagated by Reagan and his cohorts.

  • Nonsence in the US there is a higher survival rate for cancer and heart disease, the quality of care is more equal and so called selfishness and greed has lead to great inovation.

  • You say in Canada no one pays for healthcare, someone must be paying or how do healthcare people live. All pay must be controled by your government. In U.S.A. we think our Federal Government has taken control of to much of our lives and we want the control reduced. That is what our country is about. If you like your healthcare fine, just stay out of ours. I think everyone on the planet should come to your country for their healthcare unless you are to inhumane to take them.

  • The tax payer pays, in Saskatchewan 49% of the budget goes to healthcare. We also use rationing to control care to people wait and this can be less efficient. Knee surger has a greater opportunity cost in Canada why because people wait. The typical American worker can earn enough money between when they get their surgery and when a Candian get thier surgery to pay for the surgery. This adds to the economy and allows people more money to spen on things like healthcare.

  • carsij is was not the fact that healthcare got so bad in Canada that we turned to gov't to run it, people died due to no healthcare because they couldn't afford something a simple as going to the doctor to get antibiotics. Too bad the world couldn't come to Canada to get better but we need to protect or system just as much as you are protecting your user pay system. But I must ask if you knew about that this was happening why did your president come to power?

  • If healthcare in Canada got so bad that people turned to their Government to run it, to bad. Here in the U.S. we are concerned about Fed. Gov. getting to powerful and want it reduced. Our Healthcare probs can be fixed privately. I think everyone on the planet that is sick should head for Canada. Especially all our illegals. You guys much really be rich. I know Mexico is rich. Seems like the U.S. is now the poor country

  • Actually many Canadians head to America, America has short waittims and more innovation. In 1962 many Saskatchewan people opposed Medicare because they were afraid it would hurt the quality of healthcra, and I belive it has. Today halhtcare is the biggest issue in this province and it is not going to get better any time soon.

  • I see other people have also thought the same thing. The American people really need to be shown straight facts.. no Tv spin but facts about how the idea of Universal healthcare works. (Yes we did have to pay at first but now it has come down and things like lotteries and taxes help to pay for it)

After the facts have told I think it's important that the US have the first ever Nation wide Referendum. (with definitely NO electoral colleges being applied (which are already a bad idea))

  • But with universal healthcare system you don't EVER have to worry about if you can afford to go to the doctor. We still have insurance but it's for side things like dentistry and such. So you can still pick insurance. But let me ask you this should it not be the doctor who tells you which procedure is better and not your insurance company or the size of your wallet.

In Canada if you were to ever get sick... you just go to the doctor... there is no paying after.

  • Except that you can't buy insurance so the inequlity is greter between Candians who travel and those who don't. And I agee safetynets are important but why prohibit people from buying healthcare; to restrict freedom is unCanadian.

  • What exactly do you mean?

  • In Saskatchewan it is illegal to buy health insurance so if you get sick you have to use Medicare or pay out of pocket. A lot of people who do have money pay out of pocket but people with less money can't pay out of pocket so they use Saskatchewan's system which has long waiting lists for MRI's, CT scans, surgeries, especially surgeries deemed elective.

  • Oh I didn't know that. I've live in Ontario. Though I'm not sure if that happens here though I haven't had it come up.

Though yes not being able to purchase health insurance does have it's down sides, the fact that if you are poor you can still receive treatment is a good thing.

  • I think safety nets are important but there are better ways to do it. For example lets have Universal Health Savings Accounts, a tax free savings acount simular to an RRSP and give everyone a tax credit, those who have a negative tax debt get a payment in thier UHSA in addition to the money they add volentaraly. this money can then go to buy catastrophic care insurance, People would pay for most care oout of pocket so you would have competition between doctors, hospitals, chiropractors...

  • I guess that could be a good thing in terms of advancements but at the same time hurried advancements would be bad too.

  • I am really glad they aired this on Democracy Now. There have been some very strange things said about our Medicare system in the US. As someone else pointed out, its not perfect, but for myself, I have never had to worry about whether or not I would be able to receive care. Its something I'm profoundly grateful to Mr. Douglas for and I'm a proud NDP supporter.

  • I'm Canadian. Our system may not be the best. It's functional and they will never take it away from us. Get past the propaganda. Referendum!

  • At last, the truth about Canadian healthcare. I've been seeing some very strange stuff on Youtube and the media about our system. It seems that when the stakes-profits-are high people will make up whatever occurs to them.
