  • Good brass!! Sometimes, the brass makes or breaks the piece, especially in a Wind Ensemble. Great work!

  • i love this song we were going to do it in the M.A.M.S. concert next year this is my favorite song

  • Awesome piece. Play French Horn. Sounds much better with out the strings along with it.

  • Yeah what he said!!!!!

  • I want to correct what he said. He means that the piece sounds much better without the strings and that he plays the French Horn.

  • I play trumpet in my band, we only play the friggin chorale

  • us too

  • same here

  • slightly out of key in the 2nd chorus. tempo little accellerando in some places but overall a very good effort. keep up the good playing. love.

[shit i love this bit ^^]

  • Are qualified to make that judgment about what is probably a professional or college band?

  • The 2nd chorus as you call it has a key change. what you are referring to are the accidentals leading up to it. They did a great job, and I don't really like how you decide that you know what you are taking about. also, do you know what accellerando means? It's not something you can be...it is something that you do.

  • this is my skating solo music:)

  • But, I don't know why, this one sounds completely different from the one my school band plays. Wtf.

  • It's possible that you are playing a different arrangement. There are many for different levels. I am playing this in school as well, only difference is that it's the original (by Holst, arranged by Holst). It's very similar to this one. To those in the vid--well done!

  • It is more than likely a different arrangement, as the original has a need for a fairly uncommon orchestra, a symphony orchestra would need a rearrangement let alone a school band.

  • dude my shcool is playing it too it sounds nothing like this...

  • Is it that it sounds better, worse, or just all together different?

  • I play tenor sax in my school's band.

We're learning this, and we have 27 people in our class.

I just LOVE IT. I almost tear up when I play it. No rly.

  • they're good but the video and hence sound quality isn't thee-makes the band sound bad...

  • 5 friends, and myself are playing this for an ec assignment in band this year. a tuba, melophone, baritone, Trumbone, and two trumpets

  • playing on clarinet for this it so full bodied too

  • im practicing a sax quartet arrangement for this, its really cool.

  • oh boy !

u have a sax quartet for this? i am so very interested! dyu have the references? thanx

  • a sax quartet, huh? May you tell me where I can get this sax quartet? I would like to play it.

  • There is a sax quartet at MCHS (Morgan County High School).

  • there's a sax quartet on this, or am i being stupid?

  • It's amazing what you find, abd James Curnow has done an arrangement as well. I played that in Catterick (a forlorn place in Yorkshire UK) in 1970! It was the Duthoit arrangement (out of print now).

  • This song is so...so...BIG and full. Awesome. I love it. I play 1st cello at my school and we are performing this at some comp next week! I can't wait!

  • I wish my band teacher would give my school's wind symphony hard music like this. We can handle it. He doesn't seem to realize that we can rise to the occasion; he just needs to raise the bar.

  • Beautiful... I wish I'd been there to hear it live

  • Yea gl459 and if you would have really known about music, you would know that he wrote the planets in 1917 and that lincolnshire posy was written in 1932. Learn something before you hate on it.

  • I love playing jupiter. Also i love granada!! ta tetetetetetete ta ta

  • I got to play this song as well as Mars with my high school band. They're so much fun to play!

  • the planet stands out too much. anyway. i like this song.

  • By Jove! I love the grand fullness and large swells, that represent the planet so well.

About 2:15 reminds me of the Great Red Spot and in contrast to its enormity, its tiny, tiny rings.

  • This, by far, is one of my favorite pieces...

  • lol were playing this now, in my schools concert band (Senior Band) i play bass, we play it flawless and weve only been playing it for a couple of weeks, We just need harder peices -.-. anyways its still sick.

  • im plaeing at about a few month later as a gurl of bass clarinet player haha

  • my middle school just played this last week at their spring concert.

  • lucky!! our junior band could only play the other easier one -.-

    -flute player

  • I wish our band would play something that hard. It's so stupid! I love this song, but our band can't handle it. Eghad.

  • your middle school is playing lincolnshire posy? wow, i'm sure that no middle school is good enough to play that. The parts are so difficult to play well, rarely do even high school bands play it well.

  • we played this is 7th grade. Awesome!

  • nice except for the begining

then again, that part is hell to play

  • omg very good job with that. i love he song. you had a few issues but i mean it was outstanding!!!!

  • i never noticed but the beginning of Jupiter and Nitro by Ticheli sound very alike

  • mm now that you mention it, you're right :) my middle school wind ens is gonna play nitro this week <3. :0 omg this is colburn???? I might try out for teh orchestra XD;;;

  • we've only played from about 4:00 - 5:00, didn't know it was longer. i love that sound, though

  • Yeah. In middle school I played the middle section, which is beautiful in itself, but not quite up with the entire thing.

  • Junior high band, and were playing it. <3 Trombones

    pfff.. WHO NEEDS strings

  • Our middle school band is playing Lincolnshire Posy!! Trombone also.

  • thats what you call watered down lincolnshire posy

  • gl459, you have the gawl to compare Granger to Holst. Two totally different composers, both respected in their own genre of music. But, seriously Gustav Holst "The Planets" is an all-time masterpiece! PERIOD.

  • I think he was responding to another person's comment on Lincolnshire Posy. I don't think he saw any comparison between the pieces.

  • lol. i really like this song. my middle school played it for festival a couple months ago.

  • i love the planets. my school band is gonna play it in like 26 days. YAY!!!!

  • the whole thing? damn that will be one amazing concert if your good

  • My Senior Concert Band is playing this!

Uggghh. the clarinet part is really boring to play. :(

This one it really long. Ours is like five minutes.

  • what arrangement of the piece are you playing? The clarinets take on the Violin part from the Orchestral composition, which is not boring at all.

  • omg i love the planets its one of my favorite pieces

  • love this tune

  • Sounds better in full symphony, and live of course. still, a great arrangment

  • very well arranged without strings...sounds very good

  • six minutes in, the high woodwinds sound incredible!! Congrats on a great gig.!

  • I just played this yesterday!

  • My band has just started on this song (Junior High) and we've only learned the music approximately between 4:00 and 5:00.

^_^ Awesome job, I love it.

  • u must be playing chorale from jupiter....the most beautiful part of the song

  • lol same here too learn the same i play the flute!
