@2:35 you can actually defeat Toki without even getting hit. but you must be really bold while doing it. If you "get in his face" right from the start and don't attack, just stand in front of him in the middle of the screen, he will throw a high punch after some seconds of inactivity. Duck at the same time as he starts the attack, and punch/kick while you are ducking. Then get up and do nothing, and he will throw another high punch. duck again and punch, and with perfect timing you can beat him.
The graphics in this game are a bit of a mixed bag. Sometimes they are really good and sometimes there very average. Also, the stage graphics are very repedative sometimes. Like the "town" levels all basically look the same. I mean it is an 8-Bit game but still, I think they could have put a little more variation in it.
The parallax scrolling stages are still very nice looking though. The boss backgrounds are all very nice looking too.
Most awesome two-part video in the whole world covering this gem of a game! Both parts were highly enjoyable... I need to get back watching this stuff, I stopped somewhere around Cassandra prison.

This is Hokuto no Ken, all the major Hokuto Shinken, Nanto Seiken, and some other misc school practitioners (Jyuuza of the Clouds gets Hokuto'd a couple times by Raoh and doesn't go boom) are immune to the instant kill nature of the primary styles. Ken jamming his fingers into Souther's chest is an inconsequential injury to them.
Is there any chance you'd do the sequel on the Sega Genesis? I would love to see someone with your knowledge explain who all the characters you meet are.
Planning on it! I'm weird enough to actually enjoy HnK2/Last Battle, and the post-Raoh stuff is my favorite part of the timeline, so it seems like a Thing to Do.

Shame on you for forgetting to mention that Toki's Hokuto Ujou Ken style (Merciful Fist of the Northern Dipper) is made to kill you not only without pain, but give you an orgasm as it kills you.
Kenshiro's brothers all had their own take on being the successor to Hokuto Shinken.
Jagi is jealous of Ken and is an absolute dick, and could never except being weaker tan Ken.
Toki could take it or leave it, and is a nice guy.
Raoh is an absolute asshole with no remorse.

I liked Black Belt, but this version has a lot of more detail and I think, better value for money.
I wish that instead of making Black Belt, they had translated this game into English
