I'm not sure. It depends what you mean by "heavier." You're gonna need to throw out some band names. I'm really not a big metal guy. I've always been into hard rock, grunge, and alternative. I do like some metal, but don't expect any obscure screaming metal bands that people seem to be all over.

How about Breadfan by Budgie? Not classified as metal but not too light either. Its kind of progressive style hard rock. The song has one of the most infectious guitar rifts I have ever heard and drums are great too.

A few metal bands for instance are like Motley Crue, DragonForce, Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden. I'm quite into sub-genres as well.
