Items are disabled simply because losing that last life because an exploxive capsule spawned above you is simply stupid. It isn't about the items as much as it is about the fact that you could lose a life out of the blue because of a RANDOM CHANCE. You don't want that to happen when a few grans are on the table.

Nobody forces you guys to play tourneys so why is everyone bitching about it? Do you think you guys would have much more of a chance beating Pros on unconventional stages? Funny you.

they're more about luck and tipping the advantage to the person who can get them first...

playing without em, means that you have to k.o. your opponent, not go on a godly rampage with the homerun bat...

I agree. Anybody can get around and destroy somebody with pokeballs or the hammer but when you have to fight against an opponant mono y mono, that shows who's better.

Poké Ball Pokémon and the Hammer can all be dodged if you know how to adapt. The Home Run Swing has a very long charge time and bright blue sparkles that signals everybody to run or counterattack. They're not like an instant KO to everybody on the stage--any item requires you practice with it before you can use it effectively. Item usage is indeed a skill to have in the game; it's not a slot machine.

When a few grands are on the table, yes, it would be best to have a perfectly controlled environment. When there's nothing to gain or lose (except your time), however, I don't mind the freak Bob-omb or explosive container incident one bit. I like Smash Brothers chaotic, spontaneous, and unpredictable.

The ps3 isn't a bad system, but at so much more than the 360, its price range for the original games that it is just too far out there. Heavenly Sword fails at imitating God of War, and to buy an expensive system hoping that games coming out in the future will be good is just retarded. The 360 has games out now that are already good, so why pay more just to wait for content? Its completely pointless to do something stupid like that guy. Like I said, ps3 is overated.

Unfortunately, this and Battlefield seem to be the only ones, as Sakurai wants his stages dynamic. It's a shame seeing so much of the game and so much sweat and toil, both technical and artistic, go unused.

I'm no good at Smash Bros. anyway, so I'll probably avoid tournaments for a while.

You do know there's a create your own stage setting, right? It's mostly assumed that if you want the flat non-chaotic battle stages, you can make one out of crates, barrels, platypuses, ice block, etc. and then just play on it with the music you want.

As for "artistic" stages going unused, the vast majority of smash players are still casual. The seems to be a fact overlooked in a deluge of expert level play you tube videos. That being said, a lot of people LIKE playing the dynamic levels.

He doesn't play unfairly. Only a total scrub would say that. Pros play on flat stages because on others random chance or shifting conditions may give one player a disadvantage that is not his fault. Also, some stages are very imbalanced for some. In Hyrule Temple, for example, a Fox can just fire lasers and run away the entire game and easily never get hit. He'll just win on time. If it was on stocks, then he could always have a defensive advantage and only fight on his terms.

Yeah but being able to deal with variable situations and holding adaption is also a sign of proffesionalism. My cousin and I are best in Illinois and we're just fine with using items and shifting stages. But yes I agree, that's not playing un-fairly.

I don't think I can stand up to tournament players, but I seem to specialize in Items. They're random, but anyone who has ever seen poker tournaments will know that luck is a strategy in and of itself.

I think elements called "luck" among elite players of a video game, in truth, simply take away control from the players. I would agree that a test of skill works best in a perfectly controlled environment, but outside of that, I like to see some chaos.

It's definitely because it has the least amount of "distractions". The people playing are clearly at a professional level and therefore can't bear to play on a non-"Final Destination-like" stage. It's pretty stupid because they can't even cope with surroundings, you can tell by how the King Dedede player plays rather unfairly.
