you can use bait casters for jigs and worms if you tune it to the weight, the more expensive reels the better the centrifugal or magnetic( or both) brakes will be, it just takes practice but once you get the hang of it you will be able to cast farther, more accurately, and will be able to make barely a ripple on the water when it hits vs the splash you get with a spinning reel
Nice pond. A lot of comments about baitcast reels; which are simply another tool for the angler's toolbox. I like them for certain applications (such as buzzbaits) and switch to spinning reels for drop shots and plastic worms.
About a year and a half ago I bought a baitcaster I didn't like it at all then the other day I decided to take it and do a few cast I still can't cast that far but every day I'm getting more used to it:)
see, everybody sets this standard that, "because the pro's use them, i should too." use whatever you prefer, and do better with, not because the pros use it..
iv been fishing pro for 9 years and it took me a wile to use a bait caster and you dont have to fine tone a baitcaster everytime u use a bait cater just ajust to the way u like it
first of all, no, i dont know how to use a baitcaster, i bought a nice browning baitcaster, and could never get it tuned right, which is part of the reason i like my spinning reels so much better, my second reason is that, with a spinning reel, you can use all different types and weights of lures without having to re-tune your baitcaster, and i do fish alot of variety lures, so i dont have time to set it to the weight of what im casting.
just cuz people dont like them doesnt mean they dont know how to use them. i know how to use them but just prefer spinning. its just personal preference
@fishboy77 I have a 15 year old Shimano that I still use...because I can't afford to buy a new right now. Dude, when those things get old, they get OLD. Until then, they're not too bad.
If I only had $15-30 to spend, what lures or soft baits would you guys suggest for purchase? I'm going for mostly bass and panfish. Anything that can catch multiple species actually. Any help?

i use a bait caster because it casts farther and its a lot smoother, i use spinning rods for light lures like jigs and things like that
