  • I believe those turntable in Frankfort,Indiana. I lived in lebanon, indiana. I went to Frankfort and I saw that roundhouse history recently. I'm not sure there roundhouse still keep building not remove or will rebuilding in future???????. I wanna those keep these building for history museum or something and I see that big coal tower awesome> There Coal tower will be stay for life???

  • Unfortunately there are two major roof collapses in there.

  • @itm426 Yes, that is true. But the plans are to have the roof structure removed and part of it rebuilt.

  • I wonder what if the 4 Frisco 4-8-4 steamers could be added to the roundhouse? You know like 4500, 4501, 4516 and 4524! I'm sure that it will be a SLSF and NKP convention! That would be interesting!

  • there was a huge fire right close to the roundhouse i know I LIVE THERE not in the roundhouse but IN FRANKFORT

  • Did NS use that in the 90s? How did it stay active? I sure hope they do something with it. I went past it today and I give it 5 more years without help and it will be to late. Such important history that will fall apart.

  • @SkyhawkACE123

N&S moved out of the facility I believe in 1996.

I know the place is looking pretty bad but things are happening behind the scenes as I write this. Go to frankfortroundhouse web for up to date info on the project. More than likely the wood timbers inside the Roundhouse will have to be removed down to a brick shell and all the bad timber replaced with new and rebuilt. Remember the group involved in saving this place only got access to it last September. Were rolling now

  • @shaboomers I did visit that website and I only hope the best. It sounds llike your well on your way to make this happen. Would it ever be possible to run 587 across the turn table again?

  • Don Daily, long time Nickel Plate engineer, was hogger on the 587 that day. He is now involved in the efforts to save and restore the Frankfort Roundhouse. Nice video - thanks!

  • @nickelplateroad Don's also an engineer at the ITM where 587 is being rebuilt. I see him there all the time.
