  • (I'm German.) I love Jeremy Brett. I admire him. He's THE Sherlock Holmes. No one is like him - and he's my favourite Actor, of course.

  • "And this is my friend and colleague, Doctor Watson."

  • sherlock Holmes + decemberists = greatness

  • I'm totally addicted to this video. *w* It's perfect.

  • I love this video so much. The first time I watched it I didn't like the song but something drew me back to watch it again and again and again...

Anyway, I now think it it perfect. The song, clips and ideas make a perfect combination.

  • I love how well this video is done along with the song and it really catches the tone of the program and the relationship between the friends. I especially like how some of the best moments of the show are captured - definitely some of the most hilarious. Brett and Burke together were the best Holmes/Watson team ever. What a great tribute to Jeremy Brett - he was a genius and is very much missed. Thanks for doing this.

  • A marvelous and entertaining video! Delightful song and excellently chosen clips and timing! I smiled and chuckled all the way through this. I loved the comradeship and chemistry between Brett's Holmes and Burke's Watson, even though Hardwicke is perhaps more favored by some. I still and always will believe they were just great friends and colleagues. Great job on this and thanks for the treat!

  • Just so you know, this will never not be my favourite SH fanvid.

  • the song is boombastic ;)

  • Well... now i feel as if i have watched a summary of a long, dramatic and beautiful film about H&W love..... XD so i think you have done an excellent video! ;) carry on!

0:53 - 0:54 hey folks, do you still believe they were just friends?! ;-)))))

  • @MultiSk2010 yep i still believe they are just friends.

  • @Raecat2aid OK, it's ur right! and i hope u understand that i was not too serious ;)

btw, now i think that this matter (if they were only friends or something more) is like the problem of god's existence - can be neither proved, nor refuted! xD

  • @MultiSk2010 ya i know.

  • Wow, I've never smiled for an entire three minutes and fifty five seconds before due to any video. Thanks for that! :D

  • Oh my GOD, I love this! AMAZING.

  • aah sherlock and watson! perfect! and jeremy brett was the best, and just sooo adorable!

  • deduction comes a full circle , my dear watason !

  • What episodes are 1:19 - 1:20 and 1:21 to 1:24 from?

  • @jssclrd Watson holding up the revolver is 'The Red-Headed League'; Watson firing the revolver at the door, and splintering the lock, is from 'The Copper Beeches'; and the pair of them brandishing umbrellas is from 'The Resident Patient'.

  • Marvellous video! You've got me hooked on the Decemberists now.

If I might ask, what episode is 1:25- 1:30 from?

  • @AdidasandPie - thank you! And glad to hear it - they're a terrific band. :D

The exciting fence-scaling-in-the-dark is from 'The Speckled Band'. :)

  • @CorporalAlex Thanks very much! I've been searching for it FOREVER.

  • They are such a cute couple ^^;

  • love this video so much i can watch it for hours. thank you. btw, which episode is the scene of 1:35-38 from?

  • @threedaysblow - Thank you kindly! :D That scene is from 'The Solitary Cyclist'.

  • @CorporalAlex lol Thank you, I found it! I cannot believe I have overlooked it. The Solitary Cyclist is one of mine favorite, I've watched it a dozen of times. So many scenes from it are so sweet. But it is always nice to watch it again :)

  • Adorable! what episode was Holmes literally leaping over the chair in?

  • @calliesaiyan Cheers! The couch-jump is from 'The Red-Headed League'. :)

  • from which episode is the scene from 2:20-2:22 from?

  • @Dratini999 , it's from 'The Final Problem'. :)

  • Amazing song.

  • excellent!! capital! =)

  • 1:09 2:10 hahahahah xD they are pure love *3*

  • I can't tell you how many times I've watched this video, it just makes me so giddy :D I love how you don't even have to look at it from a slash point of view, although I'm a 100% supporter of it anywho.. But the same goes with the music-- when you listen to the lyrics, it's evident that you could easily take a romantic theme from it without killing the perfect comradery that the two characters have. Superb, absolutely superb in every way. Oh, and Brett and Burke are ftw. Just saying. <3

  • i like the vid. it really shows what good actors Brett and Burke were

  • This is just beautiful,I dont care how slashy it gets.

  • I love 2:28 to 2:35 so much lol.

  • Aw, this is wonderful. And I'm so glad to find that someone has vidded them to this song!

  • I'm absolutely fond of this video!

And, by the way, I have to thank you also for discovering The Decemberists.

  • Bravo! This is one of the best Holmes vids i've seen.

Is Holmes stretching out in Watson's bed in 1:51?

David Burke is my fav Watson to date, he was young and sharp without being overly snippy, and he and Brett had some dynamite chemistry.

I can't remember the ep. now but there is one in the 1st season where Holmes and Watson walk down to a carriage arm in arm :D I have a screencap but stupid me didn't write the ep. name.

  • Oh, argh. Do you know, re whether that's Watson's bed at 1.15, I have no idea. Haven't seen the eps for a disgracefully long time, I'm afraid (and I should rectify this very soon! ;) ).

But I'm pretty sure 'Resident Patient' is the one you're after for the arm-in-arm walk to the carriage. :)

And completely with you on the Burke-admiration. Hardwicke was excellent, and had great interaction with Brett, but Burke definitely had that "dynamite chemistry" you mention. :D

    Thanks very much!

  • @LeuerDuSoleil i think your talking about the resident patient. THe one after Watson gets his haircut?

  • Also, could you tell me what episode is the scene at 2:05 and 3:15 from?

  • MrsGamgee977 - Sure! 2:05 is 'Dancing Men', and 3:15 is 'Solitary Cyclist'. :)

And re: lighting the cigarette - you are not alone... ;)

  • Oh, I thought both are from the same episode... *confused* Maybe I got the time wrong. It's a close-up of Holmes and you can see the back of Watson's head in the right corner.

  • *headdesk* Oops, I misread your comment and thought you meant 2:15 for the first one!

You're right - they're both from the same episode, and it's SOLI. Sorry about that! :)

  • Thanks, I checked both episodes, and I found the scene. It's the hilarious one where he berates Watson spying skills. :D

  • Gosh, why do I find it so hot to see him light his cigarette... *sheepish grin*

  • Watson is just too adorable at 2:00 and 2:15.

    Too Adorable I say!

  • Also, watson has the cutest head tilt at 1:15 and Holmes has a very cool look at 3:15. W00T! These two are so cool!

  • I love the FRIENDSHIP between these two, and it's a fantastic video! Great use of timing and clips. The music is fantastic too! :D

  • Dear god, I was just looking around and found this vid again after almost a year I think. And I love it just as much as the first time. Decembrists and Sherlock Holmes were meant for each other. Especially in this sweet, impish slashy way. ^_~

  • 0_0 this is cool))love it)))))))))

  • really well timed and an amazing video! didn't know it was your first vid until i read it in the description and i still don't belive you now! well done 5 star

  • Oh, I love you video! Very well done, whether you see it slash or not, still it's good to me. :)

  • Absolucifecent!! Think that w/Brett's demise we've lost the epitome of what Conan Doyle had in mind when he inked the adventures of Holmes. Hardwicke portrays the ultimate Watson.Britain is as Britain does...Awed and grateful.Kudos old boy!

  • LOVE this video!!! The song was just perfect for it!

I don't believe the actors were gay, but *read Canon*. You have to look pretty hard to NOT see the slash, lol.

Holmes played the voilin *for* Watson to put him to sleep, there are so many hand holding scenes I lost count (three in Milverton alone, I think), Turkish baths, impish moods, Holmes taking Watson to symphonies, "their" restaurant in the Strand, Holmes secretly buys Watson's medical practice after the return, etc.

  • Seriously. Not to mention, the way Jeremy Brett plays Holmes, he oozes sexual tension for some reason...

  • at 2:04 Holmes looks like he's going to kiss Watson :3 lovely vid!

  • what film is 1:26 from?

  • 'The Speckled Band'.

  • I love this song, vid, pairing (I personally see the world through slash-tinted glasses. :P)

It's truly excellent. You handled their relationship very well, making it so that even those who see them as merely friends can still enjoy this video. Well done! :)

  • great. just great. especially at 3:21.

    thanks

  • I love this vid... still. And this song. And Holmes and Watson. I hope one day I find someone whom I enjoy the company of that much.

  • Oooh, this is a really good song! And nice handling of the flamer, too. *sigh*

    K xxx

  • Needs new comment. One that's not a big fight.

    'lo.

    Vid = <3.

  • good!

  • well done...at first i was rather appauled by the slash description but like you said, just because holmes and watson seem so close doesn't mean that they 'have' to be homosexual...infact, i luv how close these two were throughout all the stories...it seems so sad that in today's stories men can't be this close...vanity is a sin and as humans we commit it well

  • Stop your homosexual garbage. This is bs. Can't a man be a dear friend of another without going into his pants? fuck you perverts.

  • MSI2k - Perhaps you shouldn't hunt out vids that are clearly marked as 'slash' if the concept offends you so greatly. Also, reading potential homosexuality into one particular friendship does not automatically negate one's appreciation of the homosocial (i.e. platonic) bond in general - it's simply one possible perspective. I'm not claiming that close friendship *must* always equal romantic love, just choosing to interpret it that way in this specific instance. So you can calm down, dear. ;-)

  • Have to butt in here to appreciate how well you handled that, uh, fool's post. And I _love_ the video.

  • @ MS12k

What if they were homosexual..what's ur problem with that? what's the big deal...or are you just another one of these internet homophobes that hides his own homosexuality behind the comp screen? Catch a grip of urself and allow the individual to interpret the stories in their own way..that is, after all, what stories that engage the imagination are written for.

  • MS12k - Rather amusingly ironic that you whine about "insults" in light of your own abusive comments. Also, the fact that you insist you have the "right to voice your concerns", then demand to know "what bloody power...gave [tabula123456] the right to call [your] opinion absurd", is a touch...hypocritical, isn't it?. ;)

  • P.S., MS12k - there are other commenters here who have politely stated that they don't care for H/W slash, yet still enjoyed the vid as a platonic one. It's an ambiguous song, and you can read into it what you will.

And cut the martyr act (considering the crude and insulting language you've been employing, you've actually received comparatively civil replies), and the hyperbole ("violating a legend", indeed!). It's just a little slashvid, not worth frothing at the mouth over. ;)

  • hate is not an opinion. it's hate.

  • By the way, I never said this before: When you force an "opinion" upon someone, they retaliate. Because forcing it is wrong.

    Ok? :)

  • they wernt homo because jeremy brett was married 2

  • I'm slashing the characters here, not the actors. ;)

  • David Burke was married too. I don't remember about Hardwicke.

    but ditto to CorporalAlex.

  • and at one stage had a male lover. Just sayin'. Anyhow, this is Holmes/Watson, not the actors.

  • great vid!!!

    great music!!!

    IT'S REALLY GREAT!!!

  • aw man i loved this! i just bought the return of sherlock holmes and i already like brett as holmes :D (ive previously watched rathbone mainly)

this video is very well done and rather cute; dfkjgsdfsdf i LOVE holmes/watson x3<3 the song fit well, too :D!

  • I have to admit, I almost went away when you said it was slash, just because I personally think the pairing is a little squicky, but it is a very good representation of their great friendship. The song goes very well, too. This series is probably my favorite representation of Holmes and Watson.

  • LoveNorbertTheDragon - Thank you for your very nice comment! I think the tremendous comradeship of their partnership is immensely heartwarming, whether you slash them or not. I'm really glad that you enjoyed the vid, and that it worked for you as a friendship one :-)

  • Oh you are more than welcome!

  • I love this song, and it really does go well with this pairing. Great vid! ^^

  • nice one.5*

  • good job! the song really matches and you picked some great moments. :) thanks

  • Such a well done video. You have captured their chemistry. Straight to my fav's....

  • This lovely video really shows the chemistry between Holmes and Watson.I liked both David Burke and Edward Hardwicke as Watson, they were great. And if they were great, Jeremy Brett was awesome, breath-takingly handsome and irresistible...Thanks for the captures from The Solitary Cyclist and The Dancing Men, they are among my favorites!

  • Got this lovely video on my Sony Walkman so I'm never without it. :)

  • Amazing video!! Which episode is 0:55 with David Burke wiping Jeremy's eyebrow??

  • Cheers! It's 'Solitary Cyclist' (I appropriated quite a few from that one for this). :-)

  • This is really a great video. I watch it all the time. I love the song, it fits the video perfectly.

  • "oddly enough, i cant relate to sherlock homes in the behaver and/or attitude!"

  • I watch this video so often when at home that I can't think about the song without the images floating into my head, and when I watch the video itself, I don't see anything but the music. This song reminds me of a home of mine since I was 9 years old and I worked out that I actually live in 221b Baker street. It's been over a year now and I can't grow weary with it anymore than I can grow weary with my flat.

  • Terrific clip, thankyou!

  • I have watched this vid sooooo many times now! I am in so much love with it. They are so cute and the song is brilliant. You did a beautiful job. It also makes me miss Jeremy Brett all the more though, but it is things like this that will always keep his memory alive and remind us how very special he was. Thank You.

  • i luv this vid, this is probably the 6th or 7th time ive watched it. awesome job!

  • AMAZING! I like the song so much i bought it on itunes! 2:34 makes me laugh no matter how many times i watch this. Its such a sweet and uplifting video! Thank you!

  • AWESOME! Terrific! GREAT! Brilliant! THANKS! :-)

  • Wonderful, wonderful vid with a great choice/timing of clips and music to pay tribute to such a timeless friendship. And yes, Jeremy Brett will be sorely missed; he really was THE Sherlock Holmes.

  • At 2:34, to "I never felt so much life," was wonderful. Amazing. I could watch this over and over. <3 Thank you so much for sharing this!

  • omg great video! I love the way the relationship between watson and holmes is portrayed in this series so this video was a real treat for me.

  • love the song and the vid truly amazin!

    xx

  • 2:00 and 2:33 made me laugh. They're are so cute.

    Love the vid.

  • Great video. Love Sherlock Holmes and The Decemberists! :)

  • It's the fault of this video if I now love the Decemberists. This is my favorite Holmes vid. It's awesome, I love it to death, and it's my cure for a bad day. Thank you so much for having made this.

  • Ah, that really made my day. Wonderful done, thank you so much!

  • Very nice. I'd never heard that song before, but it suits this perfectly.

  • I can't help but smile like an idiot each time I'm watching this fabulous video. Jeremy Brett was the best Holmes ever ! So talented and handsome... And the two Watsons were incredible too.

Thank you for posting this vid !

  • Ooh, I love this! Wonderful song, great choice of clips...thanks so much!

  • Yay! This one's my favourite!

  • Thank you so much for putting a smile on my face!

  • OMG is the best Holmes-Watson vid Ive ever seen... Its..amazing, beautiful...

  • Jeremy Brett and the Twin Watsons rock my world.

    I love it.

  • Granada and Decembrists? Is it possible you can get any cooler? I love this video, it's one of my favorites on YouTube and I watch at least once a week, twice if I need some cheering up. It's just fantastic! Now every time I hear the first line of this song I see Holmes and Watson walking in time together. Heehee! Thank you for making such a wonderful vid for us Holmes fanatics, we needed it.

  • That's happened to me too- i can actually play this song in my head, complete with the video, I've seen it so often.

  • Why is this video suddenly very slow? I've used it for the best part of three months now and never had any problems. Now, in the past three days I've had to wait an age for it. The annoying thing is it's the beginning of my most used play list, and I am compelled to skip it.

  • Blimey, that's odd. Sorry to hear about that! It's fine for me at the moment.

I would blame YouTube. :-P ;-) I haven't edited or reuploaded the vid at all - though I *have* noticed that occasionally some of my own faves take aeons to load. I think YouTube can be patchy with the loading times on odd vids. Should settle down in a while.

[Shameless spam time: If the problem persists, and you or anyone else wants the original vid files emailed to you instead, I'm more than happy to oblige. :-D]

  • You know, as soon as you replied the video started working again. It's like it KNEW.

    No need for emailing me.

  • Ah, always the way. ;-) Glad it's running OK now!

  • Just a note to all you lovely people who have been kind enough to view, and comment on, my fledgling vid after it was released nervously into the wild...

Thank you. Really. Very much indeed. You have all made me grin. :-D

[Eep, it's over 4,000 views now. o.o If this is actually due to a handful of lovely people watching it over and over again, then that's really even better. ;-) ]

And I'm working on more. :-D

  • It's grand XD

  • IT shows the quality of the film, if you can watch it over and over again without it becoming boring.

  • Lol thanks to this video I've started to notice loads of slash in the Sherlock Holmes series xD. Which episode is 2:54 from please? I can't remember watching it, and it's annoying me =D

Anyway great video, I can't stop watching it!

  • Noticing subtextual slash is a jolly good thing, and I am pleased to have assisted in a small way. XD

The chemistry equipment scene at 2:54 is one of my favourite tableaus, and it's from 'The Solitary Cyclist'. :-)

  • yayoineko

The look Holmes admires Watson with is far greater than that with which Watson admires the Blue Carbuncle.

  • This video is made of awesome. ^_^

  • I love the last clip in the ending. Holmes affectionatly admires Watson as Watson admires the Blue jewel. XD XD XD

  • XD They are so cute together!! Thanks for creating and posting the video! ^_^

  • In the show, that face is met by an even flirtier look from Watson.

  • 3:26 = *the* Holmes face.

    and yes I still can't stop watching :) :P

  • I... can't... stop watching.... o_o

  • Very very very good video :D

  • my god you're good.

  • The Decemberists suit a Victorian drama. Especially one with murders.

  • You know the scene where Holmes is pushing his needles back into the drawer? Which eppy is that from?

  • It's from 'The Solitary Cyclist' [that episode's on YouTube if you want to see it :-)].

And thanks for the lovely comment - go Decemberists! :-D

  • You don't know which section do you?

  • Section 6, scene beginning at 2:42. :-)

  • A fabulous selection of clips and great choice of music. I hope we see more from you. :)

  • Brilliant! Just made me happy. Thank you:)

  • I CAN'T BELIEVE the coincidence! I adore Sherlock Holmes and I could recognise Colin Meloy's voice anywhere!

Great video; I'm watching and listening in a state of perfect content. Thank you very much!

  • Glorious stuff! I'm glad you included more of David Burke's Watson : I always felt more chemistry between the wo than with Edward Hardwicke.

And Burke does have Watson's jaunty alacrity off pat, does he not?

  • Beautiful! Very well done! Mrplz!

  • Thank you all for the lovely comments. :-) I'm very glad this went down so well, and pleased that I have fellow Burke-lovers.

A couple more in the works, and I threaten a veritable flood of them when (if) I finally acquire the DVD set.

[Never did I dare to suppose that 948 people (or 16 very loyal people indeed) would view this. :-D]

    Cheers all!

  • This is my favorite H/W vid out there. And you've gotten me addicted to this song. Pleasemoar.

  • Terrific! I am a huge Jeremy Brett fan, but I just loved all the clips with David Burke. He has a great face, really fun to watch. I love the scenes when he laughs! Thanks so much, a five star rating from me!

  • great vid! I saw a link for this in cox and co, I think... too much slashy H/W fics open at this moment ;) I loved the music... the granada series ARE slashy meterial afterall! thank you again!

  • Cool!!!

  • Ha! Cool vid indeed. :) Enjoyed it very much. Your editing was really top notch too.

  • Cool. Good work.

  • First vid? Spectacular! I love the clips you've chosen and although I wondered at first about the song, it is truly appropriate. Brothers in Arms indeed. Brava!

  • <grins> I confess I first heard this song on an absolutely excellent Sharpe/Harper slashvid by ZedVids (not on YouTube, I'm afraid), which fandom is rather more prolific in rifles and mortars than this one. ;-) However, I thought it would be appropriate too. Thanks very much. :-D

  • that was a really cool vid! nicely done!

  • Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it. :-)
