The best band to come out of England since the Stones. Better than the Smith, Charlatan, Roxy Music, Stone Roses(all fantastic bands). Ealy Lush is genius, no arguement.
Great this is just as cool as i rembered only I'm 40 now and doing a bong and shotgunning special brew whilst listening no loger seems like an option....
@BJORT He was suffering from depression for a good deal of time. One of his grandparents died around the time of the his suicide, which I would assume was one of the final straws to the point where he just couldn't take it anymore. I never found out exactly what caused most of his depression though.
Here here boys Emma was like "maryanne in gilligans island, everyone knew she was better looking than Ginger(miki)" but no one said it! Emma was "top shelf" what does she look like now???? Anyone got a pic of her I hear she had a bub in the last couple of years!
I don't play rock band this is news to me. I found them when I heard a clip from the album Gala when iut came out here in the states. Been crazy about them since... never got to see them though
No, there never will be another Lush. This is the best band ever. This band can evoke feelings never felt or imagined. I love them and have for the past 15 years.
@Etherialshroud so true, no-one else will ever capture this emotion. i was lucky enough to get heavily into them back in 92, did kind of send me off the rails big time, but it was all worth it
4ad is without a doubt the best record company ever. every band they picked up was great and i wish more people knew that. their legacy continues with bands like camera obscura.
just wanted to say that. we should have a holiday in their recognition or something
The band wasn't the same after the passing of the drummer. LUSH was always great to their fans, b4 they hit the stage, they were always with the fans watching the prior shows having a drink. LUSH rules!!!
Melcat, I caught that show. Didn't they postpone that show the next day? Miki was talking smack about Prince club. Weezer & Damn Builders opened up. Lush is the sh!t............Caught them 2 years prior to that at the "Palace" Hollywood!!!
I saw Lush in sept 1992 and twice in Los Angeles in 1994 at a club called Glam Slam which is no longer around. This single came out a month or two before the release of spooky and I had it. I just could not believe how awesome their sound was. To me , it was perfect.. Emma is the most beautiful lifeform ever created!!!!Lush changed my life in 1991.
Not to mention she was such a talented songwriter and guitarist. Alot of credit goes to Miki and she did a have a great personality in interviews and live recordings I've seen (I never got the chance to see them live), but Emma was the most talented in some ways. I think she didn't mind being in the shadows or sharing the spotlight. They both look so I great in this video and I wish there were more bands like them these days. Blonde Redhead or Asobi Seksu are two bands that come to mind.
Yes mjcastro, that show was cancelled, but they played 2 or 3 songs before the p.a. went out and after three hours the club promoters cancelled the show and told everyone to come back the next nite. I remember they played with Ride in 1990/91 and I knew of Ride , but not Lush at that time, how I wish to have made that show!
Simple concept video was super hot and captured the feeling of the song. I always thought their vocals almost sounded like they approached pure tones sometimes. Fun to make fun of that, but such gorgeous sound. This is my favorite song of all time from any band.
I agree - hopefully Spooky and Gala will be reissued. I'm another fan of the Cocteau Twins, and I like what Robin Guthrie added to the Lush sound. I also love Miki and Emma.
That would be awesome if they included some bonus tracks. They had some great stuff just released on compilations and singles. I have a 45 with a song called Sweetie that is just a great song only on that format.
No, I've never seen them live. I'm actually sad about that. I was 14 in 1992 when Lollaplalooza came to St Paul, MN. That was the year I first heard of them, though. I have friends that have seen them and said they were one of the best bands they saw live. I, like Nirvana, thought they would be around for ever. Chris was one of my favorite drummers and I'm sorry he died so young. Now I'm a little older than him and wonder why, but I still love this band over 10 years later.
I use to attend a lot of gigs, but when LUSH was in town (Los Angeles & Hollywood), I'll sneak cd's or pictures of them into the show cuz they were always roaming around the crowd. I have lots of autographs of them and had small conversations, that was very unique about them, gr88888 to their fans!
They played at First Ave (Purple Rain) in 1996. First Ave use to give away free tickets for shows (they probably still do, but I haven't live there in 8 years, but am moving back from Vegas in June). That night they gave away free tickets for Lush, but I think I had to work that night or didn't have a ride. Anyways, I missed them and kind of thought they would be around longer. It's regretable, but I still enjoy their album as I have just about everything they put out even on vinyl. HAHAHA
wow, you're lucky to have EVERYTHING by lush on vinyl! i never had the chance to see them either, do you have any info about why chris acland would end his life?
I have quite a collection of 90s music on vinyl including Lush. Even some rare stuff on both CD and LP. It nice that people are hearing their music even if it is unfortunately through Rock Band. I think I know what it's like to be suicidal, but always pull myself out of it. In fact, I think it's music like Lush that helps me get through some days. It's a shame that Chris Acland decided to leave this life. He is a favorite drummer of mine and they are a great influence on my own guitar playing.
why is it unfortunate that people hear about Lush from rock band? If it hadn't been for rock band i would have never heard of these guys and now I'm listening to a lot of their music and I love it!
I didn't find this from rockband. I found Lush from studying a variety of shoegaze bands. Mostly because i'm that type of person. I feel hallucinative and if you saw me in real life walking i'm always looking down or staring off into the sky.
well he did it JUST 2 days after emma anderson announced she was leaving the band to form sing-sing (which got put on hold after he killed himself). draw your own conclusions from that.
I remember seeing them at SUNY Purchase in NY back in ... must have been 1990! It was great, it was such a small space, almost like a living room! Of course they were great live.
i really really like the posture that they have in the video. The fact that they are so together and singing. I don´t know, i find it very sexy and beautiful.
That would be why I fell in love with this song... seeing the video on Much Music. I mean, the song is great, but to see it with the video made an impact I can't deny. I always had the hots for Emma. ;) I would have liked to have seen them at least once live.
Abba for the shoe-gazer generation! (That's a compliment, btw........)

Such a shame Lush just missed the top 20. If they'd had another year or two there could have been a top 10, even a no.1.
