  • DAMNIT I WAS GETTIN INTO THAT HAND DRYER!

  • SYF

  • carbon fiber is actually stronger than steel by 3 times or more, & about 100 times lighter.

  • That was not epoxy resin they used, despite what the narrator stated, it was polyester resin. Polyester resin dries faster and is less expensive. Many manufacturers use it in place of epoxy resin. It is fine if you're going to paint the part afterward. But for bare carbon, polyester resin discolors in sunlight so epoxy is necessary.

  • This process is commonly known as vacuum-bagging.

  • @Tekvicious This is VARTM (Vacuum Assisted Resin Transfer Molding) which is quite a bit different than Vacuum Bagging. Both methods compress the fiber stack to increase the fiber/resin ratio. Vacuum Bagging goes over a wet stack and forces out excess resin. VARTM pushes resin into a dry stack due to pressure difference between the resin pot and under the bag. :)

  • congratulation!! very clear tutorial.

I need to know more about humidity and temperature please.

    Thanks

  • @montalban02007 Humidity will have no affect with this process due to the vacuum pressure under the bag. Any moisture will boil off at vacuum pressures. Of course that takes a little while and the video appears to show them introducing resin immediately. Now, outside the bag there may be a problem with moisture getting into the resin - that can be removed by putting the resin under a vacuum before hand.

  • i thought i could do it at home. fuck this

  • @sakatis lol. and you got 'How to make your own fiber parts' in the suggestions..

  • brittleness, tensile strength, compressive strength are some variables in a complex equation. structure, alignment, shock load absorbtion, resin fibre ratio, etc are many other variables that can explain why it can stop bullets.Kevlar has the best structural efficiency for bullet proofing but that does not mean carbon fibre cannot stop a bullet with more thickness or a special arrangement. heck,Even a phone book can stop bullets.

  • carbon fiber "nearly as strong as steeal" and 10 times more brittle*

  • @kingzreptilez4life ya if you had the same thickness it would be dam near bullet proof only large caliber rounds would penetrate

  • @nameloc1000 i dont doubt its strength. Its just very weak to a suden impact. like carbon fiber wheels can shatter if they hit a pothole in the street, yet they can support the weight of the car.

  • @kingzreptilez4life not tryin to be a troll but i seen this stuff stop bullets

  • @nameloc1000 Non metal/ceramic body armour is made of kevlar fabric not carbon fibre fabric.

  • @saffcos4x4 on a truck is what im referring to i helped make a windshield frame for a truck that we made a sample to test and it stopped a .308

  • "Nearly as strong" and are 10 times more brittle

  • common

    chevy ssr?

the worst car for light weight motivating ...

  • This car is not a Road Show :D

  • carbon fiber is too sexy to paint

  • A fibra de carbono é muita fixe mas o que as pessoas não sabem é que há vários tipos de fibra de carbono e ja houve carros fabricados em fibra de carbono e ficaram desfeitos como se fosse de outro material.

  • what sort of a faggot would put a miniature basketball court in their car? i guess the same faggot has a miniature michael jordan figurine he sticks in his arsehole too

  • imagine that, a wrinkled bumper

  • OI! I want to do this!

  • phenomenal......carbon fibre is the way of the future

  • how much price is carbon fiber?

  • This is the music you get when its demonstrating something for high school lmao.

  • why would you then paint carbon fibre? aesthetically it's fantastic. Expensive way to make some parts....why not use urethane instead if it's being painted.

  • For the guys below talking about hardener and catalyst:

It is the same thing. A catalyst is to speed up and react. And in this case, it speeds up the hardening process by reacting with the resin.

  • the commentator makes me feel like a dumbass

  • That wasn't epoxy resin - it was either polyester or vinylester. (You don't put catalysts in Epoxy resin). Seems a waste of carbon - not a great deal of strength in poly / vinylester - and painting it will just hide how great carbon looks - could have just used glass fibre.

  • @iluvcurries um yes you do you add catalyst into epoxy resin otherwise it won't cure the process described in this video i called carbon fiber resin infusion its second best way to make carbon fiber part the best way to make the strongest and the lightest part would be using a preprag carbon fiber sheets vacuumed or compressed into the mold at 74 degrees Celsius and left there curing for 12-24 hours

  • @volodymyrm1you do add something to epoxy its called a hardener normally at a ratio of 4 :1. WEST system epoxy resins use a ratio of 5:1 - so its super strong. the commentator must have got her wires crossed somewhere. I used to work for a company selling carbon fibre and to be honest I haven't heard of an epoxy / catalyst combination.

  • @iluvcurries well some people call it hardener while others call it catalyst hell even some companies who sell automotive grade resin at like autozone and pepboys call it catalyst my neigbor shots fiberglass pools and he calls it catalyst i call it "that clear shit that stinks in the bottle" lol

  • @volodymyrm1 LOL yeah it does stink! I remember visiting a customer on the Solent a few years back and when we went in to the hanger where they where making some boats i started feeling a little high after an hour, and these guys were in there all day!

  • @iluvcurries hahahaha i work in my garage 24 7 but i use full face respirator because i weld and lay fiberglass and carbon fiber all the time so it doesn't reslly bother me

  • Carbon Fiber FTW! :P

  • i like carbon fiber but when u put it on your hood it melts and breaks away

  • @1999151 thats why people paint or vinyl it otherwise store away

  • @1999151 So the real stuff melts and breaks away or are you talking about vinyls

  • RiCe!

  • where is the vacuum attached? also, it is just a regular vacuum?

  • @michaelkitselaar baically. you really dont even need it but it just helps.

  • Worst background music for a documentary I've ever heard!

  • @digitalmangaartist I take that back... it really isn't all that great xD LOL
