You need to hook plug in your serato box....If your box is not plugged in it will not work, if you just downloaded the software and didn't pay for the box you are SOL... make sure your usb isn't stretch out to far i can loose connection to either your SL1/3 box or your mac.
it could be many things, as mentioned above you should always have your updated drivers installed on every usb port you are using. another things would be the connection from your sl box to you mixer since the audio is picked up from there and then sent to the amps or speakers depending on your set up. make sure the mixer is on and if it is, check the volumes of the mixer as ell as the amps or speakers. after you are done with all the cable checking you should try it gain and it should.

it was before 1 year!!! hehehe
now its ok i have MAC BOOK PRO
everything work fine
but know that on the old DELL laptop
there is MANY PROBLEMS
and SERATO SUPPORT NOT HELP YOU
and not answer back when you email them
