The problem is people are decived by believing Tolle. Life is more than meditation and relaxing and not thinking too much. You have an eternal soul made by God. All people have sinned, that's our nature. We need forgiveness of sins, we need redemption. God made one way to have that redemption, through His Son, God incarnate, Jesus Christ. Jesus said He is the way, the truth, the life, no one comes to the Father but through Him. That means all other beliefs or religions are false.

We use our minds to understand words, words have meaning. Knowing truth is not ego as I've heard so many times from Tolle followers. @joeforHistruth The teaching that Eckhart espouses has been around for hundreds upon hundreds of years, in the Tao Te Ching and before. His words are the same as its, in that he says there is a time for thinking but that thinking all the time is a highly negative thing.

@eastariel I don't think there is a boundary either. However the idea of the formless form is a very old one, many fingers pointing to that same moon! As I understand it, it's not so much about the absence of something, emptiness. It's that pure awareness is all birth and all death, of form. Awareness is the carrier and form is the modulator, perhaps?
@eastariel I would say that Energy is a material function. I believe what Eckhart is getting at is that "stillness" is pure awareness, consciousness. Everything that exists outside of that, is manifested from that point of pure consciousness. Which is what we, as humans, cannot help but be tangled up in.

I'm on my third reading of “The Power of Now”, and I understand more with each reading. What amazes me the most is how it can be tested. I still have to laugh every time I can become 'present', and realize I'm more focused on what I'm doing, and distractions are just things going on around me. Not a distraction at all. Just wish I could stay in that state longer, or better yet always. I think some people are that way naturally, but I'm not. I need to get the “A New Earth” also.

@jdim80127 Good comment, made me really think, thanks! From what I gather The book Stripping The Gurus is based on anecdotal evidence. However there is a lot of truth in what you say. I personally think worshiping eastern or western gurus is dangerous and can lead to cult like behavior. I have some Christian and Buddhist friends who have joined borderline cult organisations and that saddens me. I'm glad you have now found peace from seeking.
@jdim80127 To continue. The experience of enlightenment is still valid to me. It ties closely to the flow feeling. For reference youtube: Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi: Creativity, fulfillment and flow. I have experienced something similar that Tolle has, but I don't claim that the feeling was pure consciousness ect. that sounds little to pseudo scientific to me. It's realizing that you are more that your self image/ego. But to say that you are god/universe is to replace one image with an another.
The whole point of presence is that it is beyond words and concepts. It isn't something that can be accurately described, you have to experience it. The labels "God" and "Being" are just sign posts, as Eckhart would call them, pointing to something profoundly greater. The mind/ego isn't supposed to understand.

But Jesus's teachings - on how to be present in God's presence, how to be calm, how to cease the wandering "selfish" mind, how to be filled with Life - are totally at one with what Tolle is saying in a more elaborate way. You can say "truth comes from God", sure, but it comes THROUGH humans! How else?!! Because we're made "in God's image", we all have the "divine spark".

There is one way to be in Gods presence, one way to have life. That is through Christ alone. By recognizing what we all are, sinners(as Christ said), by repenting of that sin(as Christ said), by putting your faith in Christ(who he is, God and what He did) alone for forgiveness and eternal life, true life. The peace, life, joy, presence, only comes through Christ, His way.

Jesus wouldn't have known if there was a teacher of truth in, say, China; but he knew there were no other teachers like him in the area around Israel, and that's why he said "come to me". No, only God is good - and that IS in the Bible!!

When I heard Eckhart Tolle say that after many times of contemplating his own suicide he heard a voice tell him, ‘Resist Nothing’... Let's just be honest where did this voice come from and what does he mean ‘Resist Nothing’? I don't think he's saying that when someone breaks into your house we need to just be calm and alright with it, but maybe he is? Now if someone is ready to commit suicide and it's clear that he doesn't love himself how can he teach us to truly love??? That's my question.
@compassion4truth I've also wondered what he means by "resist nothing". I sense that what he means is to not resist what already is. I don't think he means to let people do whatever they want to you. There is a way to live where you're in state of complete inner acceptance of the present moment while still recognizing the need to make changes in your life. It just means your emotions are free of the attachment to your life situation.
Each guru represents a "method" or solution. Each method must fit the problem. This is why in india you are told to find "your" guru. A guru that has the method that works for you. People made jesus into a universal method, but if there ever existed a person called jesus - he would be the first to say that: no, you must find your own path. So not everyone will like Ekheart. They need another method. Nothing to fight over. If it works then good, if not - leave it.

But I think everyone and everything is a spiritual teacher. A cup of coffee is a spiritual teacher.
One of my favorite spiritual teachers is Dr. Seuss.
I'm not a fan of Tolle's puffy giggly "the spaciousness that is the spaciousness -- but isn't" babble, but I guess that kind of thing sells these days.

If you come across a house in Austria, where you learn that a father has locked his daughter in the basement for 20 years, repeatedly raping and sodomising her, do you say "Yes, this is what it is"? Do you stop to notice the 'stillness' surrounding these offences? Or do you perhaps respond to that situation in some ethical way?

The problem is people are decived by believing Tolle. Life is more than meditation and relaxing and not thinking too much. You have an eternal soul made by God. All people have sinned, that's our nature. We need forgiveness of sins, we need redemption. God made one way to have that redemption, through His Son, God incarnate, Jesus Christ. Jesus said He is the way, the truth, the life, no one comes to the Father but through Him. That means all other beliefs or religions are false.

We use our minds to understand words, words have meaning. Knowing truth is not ego as I've heard so many times from Tolle followers. @joeforHistruth The teaching that Eckhart espouses has been around for hundreds upon hundreds of years, in the Tao Te Ching and before. His words are the same as its, in that he says there is a time for thinking but that thinking all the time is a highly negative thing.
In the 21st century we’re being pushed into perpetual thought motion by the amount of technology and advertising we’re facing, don’t you think any loving God would want us to have an Oasis of peace in our own minds?

@eastariel I don't think there is a boundary either. However the idea of the formless form is a very old one, many fingers pointing to that same moon! As I understand it, it's not so much about the absence of something, emptiness. It's that pure awareness is all birth and all death, of form. Awareness is the carrier and form is the modulator, perhaps?

Everything that exists outside of that, is manifested from that point of pure consciousness. Which is what we, as humans, cannot help but be tangled up in.

I'm on my third reading of “The Power of Now”, and I understand more with each reading. What amazes me the most is how it can be tested. I still have to laugh every time I can become 'present', and realize I'm more focused on what I'm doing, and distractions are just things going on around me. Not a distraction at all. Just wish I could stay in that state longer, or better yet always. I think some people are that way naturally, but I'm not. I need to get the “A New Earth” also.

People show their lack of faith in their beliefs by trying to force feed them to others. If they had more confidence their beliefs could stand on their own merit, they would simply bring them to the potluck and put them on the table.

He has very truesounding ideas, but you all should face these facts : 1) Tolle is making millions dollars and living in a big mansion while teaching you to "stop your mind" and to "drop desires and ego". 2) Modern buddhism (which the PON is basically) is the complete opposite of original teachings of the Buddha. @jdim80127 Good comment, made me really think, thanks! From what I gather The book Stripping The Gurus is based on anecdotal evidence. However there is a lot of truth in what you say. I personally think worshiping eastern or western gurus is dangerous and can lead to cult like behavior. I have some Christian and Buddhist friends who have joined borderline cult organisations and that saddens me. I'm glad you have now found peace from seeking.

@jdim80127 To continue. The experience of enlightenment is still valid to me. It ties closely to the flow feeling. For reference youtube: Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi: Creativity, fulfillment and flow. I have experienced something similar that Tolle has, but I don't claim that the feeling was pure consciousness ect. that sounds little to pseudo scientific to me. It's realizing that you are more that your self image/ego. But to say that you are god/universe is to replace one image with an another.

The whole point of presence is that it is beyond words and concepts. It isn't something that can be accurately described, you have to experience it. The labels "God" and "Being" are just sign posts, as Eckhart would call them, pointing to something profoundly greater. The mind/ego isn't supposed to understand.

But Jesus's teachings - on how to be present in God's presence, how to be calm, how to cease the wandering "selfish" mind, how to be filled with Life - are totally at one with what Tolle is saying in a more elaborate way. You can say "truth comes from God", sure, but it comes THROUGH humans! How else?!! Because we're made "in God's image", we all have the "divine spark".

There is one way to be in Gods presence, one way to have life. That is through Christ alone. By recognizing what we all are, sinners(as Christ said), by repenting of that sin(as Christ said), by putting your faith in Christ(who he is, God and what He did) alone for forgiveness and eternal life, true life. The peace, life, joy, presence, only comes through Christ, His way.

Jesus wouldn't have known if there was a teacher of truth in, say, China; but he knew there were no other teachers like him in the area around Israel, and that's why he said "come to me". I don't believe it was meant exclusively. How could it lessen the truth of his teaching if a person on the other side of the world, or in another time, was pointing out the same truth? Good person? No, only God is good - and that IS in the Bible!!

When I heard Eckhart Tolle say that after many times of contemplating his own suicide he heard a voice tell him, ‘Resist Nothing’... Let's just be honest where did this voice come from and what does he mean ‘Resist Nothing’? There is a way to live where you're in state of complete inner acceptance of the present moment while still recognizing the need to make changes in your life. Each guru represents a "method" or solution. Each method must fit the problem. This is why in india you are told to find "your" guru. A guru that has the method that works for you. People made jesus into a universal method, but if there ever existed a person called jesus - he would be the first to say that: no, you must find your own path. So not everyone will like Ekheart. They need another method. Nothing to fight over. If it works then good, if not - leave it.

1. This guy wants to realize religion unification, as well as "some guys" wants to realize political and economical unification.
2. Run as fast as you can. He has nothing to do with God. If you want to search God, study orthodox eastern church.

@trakomako Life is not all hard work and stress, theres a time to hard work to progress and a time to contemplate life's beauty. Through time we convert ourselves into a product that denies the entity, so we remain in a constant battle within ourselves, product vs entity, where the product(a defined, generic, self that only looks for excuses to remain as how he knows to be, or taught to be) overshadows the existent entity which is hardly possible to realize when we remain in an egocentric status

This guy is a watered down version of Eastern Spirituality. Pop spirituality would describe what he does. Not even Siddharta Guatama achieved Self Realization in an instant. This guy is a con artist. No man goes from suicidal depression to enilightened bliss in a matter of a day. God doesn't work in that manner. Plus this dude's on Oprah... Red Flag!....Red Flag!....Blow the whistle!

@twelveinone It's kind of funny to read your comment. When you break it down, sentence by sentence, EVERY single thing you said was a judgment. I'm sorry, but when I listen to Eckhart Tolle's words and then your words, the relative wisdom between the two is glaring. Once you stop judging everything around you, maybe you can grasp what it's all about. There is no reason why enlightenment should take 3 years or 30 years. It can, and does, happen in a mere second....if you're ready.

Reading judgmental sentences doesn't provide me or anyone with anything meaningful. It's just your individual self trying to possess and control a world that is not yours to possess or control.

We break an earthly law, we get judged. God has perfect holy Laws, we break those Laws, why? Because we are born with a sin nature, we are bent on sinning. If God is good, He will judge us for our sin(lawlessness, missing the mark). Jesus said be perfect as My Father in heaven is perfect. Why did He say that knowing we can't? Because He can't lower God's standard, which is perfection.........

@pilytkid .....So God sent His perfect Son, who lived a perfect life, so He could give His perfect life for imperfect sinful people. So the payment for sin, the wrath of God, the judgment of God was placed on His own Son, so we could have forgiveness and eternal life. As Jesus said, "It is finished", what? The one time payment for sin is complete, it is done, God made a way, through Christ.
The just(Christ) died for the injust(sinners), so the unjust can be counted as just.

Why do I have to allow a moment to be, it's not like the moment asks me "Hey am I allowed to be?" And why do I have to tell myself that everything "is at it is"? If it already is there is no need to think about it in any way.
First he says you need to get free from psychological forms, then he says you need a "field of now" to exist. Now tell me what's this field if it isn't a psychological form.
