Yes, I've heard many angels sing in my life, and the resemblance is striking. ;) He also sounds a little like elves, fairies and leprechauns, and has something of a djinn, too. OK, now I'm gonna go to my kitchen on my flying carpet, to cook some griffin (although I know the Bible forbids us to eat griffins).
It's "a legendary creature with the body of a lion and the head and often wings of an eagle" (Wikipedia).
I could swear I had found it in the Bible, but I can't find it anymore (depends on translations, I guess). Anyway, it's forbidden: "every creeping thing that flieth is unclean unto you" (Deu 14:19).
My ironic comment was not meant to be aggressive at all, by the way. Just kidding. It's simply that I have noticed that PJ's voice is most often compared to that of:
1) an angel;
2) a castrato;
3) Farinelli in particular.
Only problem: angels don't exist (at least in this world), castrati have disappeared, and Farinelli has been dead for a while. So I'm wondering how one can find a resemblance with them.
PJ himself said he sounds more like a child. He may be wrong, but at least he's realistic.
Not to worry! I took no offense! Well I can agree with 1 and 2 on your list, even though I cannot verify my claims! :-) I don't think he would sound like Farinelli, Carestini more likely! :-) Don't ask why I think this. :-)
He he.... I can imagine, that with very good will angels maybe can sing like Philippe :-) and I can also imagine that for voices like Philippe´s the ladies in the past were falling to unconsciousness. His singing always evokes the huge among of love and other feelings..... His singing and personality is quite extraordinary.
Exquisite. I especially like Jaroussky's decoration of the vocal line in the DC repeat. It's intelligent, not at all overdone, and utterly engaginh.

Did you use the score from mutopia project for this video? If so it's nice to see the influence of this open-source music! :)

Nice Rendition but, forgive me Jaroussky Fans, as much as I love his voice, I wouldn't replace Sara Mingardo in this aria for him.

I so love this version of the song! I was hoping that someone would and you did! This is one that I'd like to harmonize with.
