  • You have got to be kidding. Ask any commercial grower if that is the way they started their grove. The torture of the avocado seed started in elementary school science class and they were not trying to teach you how to grow an avocado. Put the seed in the soil just under the ground so it can feel the heat from the sun but will not get sunburned. Point up little circle down. The root that grows in the water is not the root that will support the tree.

  • if you peel off the skin at the botton of the seed, it will crack abd root in about 2 weeks ,in water

  • Does anyone know .. once you remove the seed from the Avocado, do you need to let the seed dry out or can you right away start to seed it?

    Thanks!

  • @TonicWater777 you clean the avocado seed and you do it right away. i recomend peeling off the skin because after a couple of days mold will form on them and the part of the skin that is touching the water gets slimy.

  • This seems awesome.... I really want to try it.

  • I didn't have much luck. When I poked the tooth picks in some white stuff came out, and then when it finally cracked after a couple days, the yoke came out spilled into the water.

  • @TheLMack thats natural, it's because you are poking into the flesh of the avocado. it depends on the avocado, some do dome don't.

  • stick it in the ground/pot with dirt ---it'll grow. No need for toothpicks etc.Why complicated when you can make it easy!

  • Question: how often do you change the water from the cup or do you not change it at all?

  • would a reptile heating lamp work to grow them?

  • After many years trying this method I gave up and took the easy route. I let the seed sit in the window until the outer skin thurns to paper. A few days. Then I just push the seed down into a planter. I keep the soil just slightly moist but not too much because too much will rot the seed. Voila! I prune about 8 inches off when it reaches about 24-30 inches. Good Luck!

  • Would it sprout faster or more readily if you put a mild liquid fertilizer in like Shultz or dilute miracle grow?

  • it works alot better if you start it in soil

  • hey i heard that if you peel the brown skin after a couple of days when it dries up or the part underwater easily comes off-it grows faster cause the water go's directly to the seed?

  • Do we need to change water everyday

  • @MrEgypt95 some bacteria can grow around the bottom of the seed (this is the case with one of the ones i'm growing) and in that case it might be a good idea to put in some fresh water and clean it off, but otherwise no. you should however add a little bit of water every 24 hours though because it evaporates rather quickly.

  • wow those are some big avo pits. hmm.... I dunno, I guess we just get really shitty and small avocadoes in Canada lol

  • @LauRazzz87 mine never work either (van isle) i wonder if we get irradiated, or immature avocados here.

  • Well, the man has a ps3, he must be a genius, so I'll be following his work =)

  • @A1R5N1P3R Can I ask you Why you think he, "must be a genius" because he has a Playstation3? exceptional intellect your saying? I have a PS3, I am not a Genius, skills maybe? But, I have had my Avocado seed placed in a clear jar in the same manner as this alexdalyno1 (lol I'm sry), dude did? it cracked but No roots yet?...

  • Do you have to peel the skin off the seed before putting the toothpicks in and setting it over water?

  • @LycheeWhore the skin will loosen and is easier to peel after the seed is soaked for some time.

  • @LycheeWhore you dont have to

  • @LycheeWhore No, it should be fine.

  • i hope you didn't eat that avocado off that dirty table.

  • Do you eat off of your table? I use plates.

  • @meloearth 9 months later, I don't know why I made this comment. Musta been my eviel twin. LOL

  • do you have to change the water while the Avocodes grow?

  • yes, every two days.

  • Is exactly what I was searching for when I looked at google and type How to grow avocado from seed..

    Thank you.

  • i put it in the water in the other side the dull side up and it grew really easily

  • im not sure i put them i was told you half cover then in water so i use the tooth picks just stick them in i think it needs a dark warn place to crack open thats what i foung out after mine had opened i left mine at the window and it took 2 months to open ,

  • @alexdalyno1 I'm sorry but your grammer doesn't make sense to me? " it needs a dark warn place?", That's what you 'Foung' out? Umm..WARN Place?? FOUNG? were you on Drugs when you typed that, or when you did the video? I'm not trying to be rude but someone comment that you were a genius? lmao!!??

  • @Luvlylion I think you mean 'grammar' and 'commented.'

  • @alexdalyno1 OMG?!! he copied it...?

  • so do the toothpicks just slide in the avocado, (havent tried just asking) i've got one avocado plant but i got lucky cause it was already growing when i cut it open lucky me : ), so if i have like 30 seeds would u recomend throwing them in dirt or proping them up on toothpicks?

  • Should I change the water?

  • do you know if it is true that some frozing or heating can help the seed crack faster?

  • i think the more heat you give it the better the chance it needs heat to crack open not light when it cracks open it needs light and heat put it in the hot press till it opens then in the window

  • i did this 4 years ago, the tree is now 2.5 meters high.

it would have been much higher if the pot was bigger.

  • mine just cracked open after 6 weeks tiny little root coming out
