@bryan8675: That's true too. It's really about this agoraphobic hermit who sits around his house doing nothing all day. And, he says he's having a blast, but that'of course intentionally ironic because he really is sitting around doing absolutely nothing.
This is very good. I like the presentation and the audio is excellent! Thank you! I remember Mr. Green Jeans in particular. So laid back. Much better than Fred Rogers, maybe even Ginger Rogers! lol.
Kinda like Heatherly's version more. Its more smooth. This one is more catchy I admit, its more likely to be looped in your head. but I prefer the cover. Its "cool"
An ominous quality here, what with this flowered wallpaper that apparently has the power to captivate these guys the way that crusty old yellow wallpaper did with the poor woman from The Yellow Wallpaper. Beware guys, there's insanity in the staring, and sometimes if you look long enough, creatures appear in the pattern.
I like listening to this song when I am feeling depressed and think I have nothing to do. and then I look around my house and I see I have plenty to do. Besides playing solitaire or computer games, well even when I walk away from the computer there is always something to do to keep busy and pass the time away.
This song was featured in Pulp Fiction,I can remember when this song came out,I do like Ole C/W because Sat. night the only thing on the telly was Hee Haw!!
I found this song through that video, with Klebold in the car, actually lol At that point, I was really into researching Columbine... I don't know why though :/
Ordinarily I don't listen to country and western music, but I stumbled upon this while I was mindlessly searching on YouTube. This one's quite a hoot. I laffed my a** off.
You people do know this song is supposed to be a guy who's having a nervous breakdown? And the person who's concerned about him is the women who dumped him.
"Anyways, my eyes are not accustomed to this light... and my shoes are not accustomed to this hard concrete..." My thoughts on many a days of stepping outside... lol
Love this song, heared it for the first time in pulp fiction on bruce willis' car radio, took me ages to find out who made it. Beautiful song!!! Thankxxx
Having nothing to do is a problem if you have nothing to do. When you have work to do, then having nothing to do is wonderful. I've got books and articles to read, papers to write, exams to study for. I've got plenty to do, but it's so tempting to watch hours of TV, play solitaire, or maybe comment on YouTube music videos until dawn.
This song is fun to sing along with. Slow and simple enough to relax, not demanding. Little effort to memorize.
Too bad after all that work, you guys had two serious typo's in the credits...Love Harold, Don, Phil and Jimmy.... they were at it 40 years....

I don't know why are people debating meaning of this song when it's so clear what's it about from lyrics.
psychogunjack 2 weeks ago
the reason this song is a hit is cause of the the bass "kaaaang" from kangaroo.

@kolpinj except all those things they fill their time with are simple heart breaking distractions
that mask the pain while the girl he loves is out on the town, with her friends, or giving small
thoughts of consolation through a pained conscience "I guess" ....so that's okay, don't worry about me
