@jassoe Boomerangs and Kylies where confused as being the same thing (both called boomerangs 17th -19th century ) for over 2 centuries. Kylies are like heavy flying weapons that DONT circle / return .
@jassoe Boomerangs can kill birds, bats , fish, lizards in a PINCH (but not usualy the first choice ) by Aboriginals . Boomerangs are too small to kill big animals or people . Kylies are big and leathal . Kylies can go completly through a person in war . Boomerags would sting , See the diffrence .
@jassoe There are some cool videos of big fruit bats being hunted by boomerangs .Look up bat boomerangs and look for the hunter icons . There are also cool ninja stars that can go aroung corners and kill .They are metal though with no air foil .
@MrNoNaMe1107 Kilamanjaro is a cool boomeramg, but its not my design . It would be seen as inapropriate for me to make a video of that (that maker might think I'm trying to sell his design ). It is also hard to film because it goes so far .
@MrNoNaMe1107 Boomerangs that go far need to use a zoom lens to see it , my son doesnt hare the skill to film that yet .Its hard to keep the boomerang in frame at zoom magnification while it moves quickly . I could do it If there was another boomerang thrower with me but I'm the only one in my city .
@TyroToxism09 There are a few exceptions some boomerangs can be used for killing a birds/bats even fish near the surface .Normaly kylies are prefered because they are much heavier .
1 @TyroToxism09 If you look at the United States Boomerang Association FAQ it disscuses that boomerangs are not weapons .Kylies /hunting sticks are lethal but dont return and look similiar but wider than boomerangs .
@Matanui97 Weights are optional .Add weights near the tipsto increase distance .Tape with duct tape ,press smooth , dimes , penny , nickle , work your way up .Weights help on windier days also .
@Matanui97 weights can be drilled and counter sunk and glued in . Holes for coins are drilled partialy and then glued in .Advance methods deal with brass or lead put in drilled holes .Not needed for beginners .Google images of weighted boomerangs .
@Matanui97 There is a lead tape (sticky on one side ) that is used in golf but put on boomerangs .Watch out for lead posioning by licking fingers at lunch after throwing.
Coins are the easiest .I use small washers on kids balsa rangs instead of coins.

@flyingscience thanks greg. my boomerang is a birch 1/4' thick traditional homemade right-handed boomerang. the airfoil seems to be correct, but i can't get it to come back. can you help me. (btw, i subed.) ;)
@Calvatron4000 The ones shown on this video are for 12 year olds to adults . I have other types that are for 5-7 age ,and 8-12 age . Its all determined by weight and model type .
Hi Greg, I just had someone ask if I new anyone that made a bat rang. You were the first person I thought of. You may be hearing from a Lance within the next couple days.
There is much misinformation about boomerangs and kylies both where called boomerangs in the 17/18th century . Kylies are like flying baseball bats that can impale like a sword.
I think your referring to the flat headed nulla nulla. This was a boomerang type object that was thrown and would cause blunt trauma to what ever was being hunted. It never came back nor was it designed too.
The only exception is some boomerangs scare birds out of marshes while Kylies are thrown into a flock .Kylies kill and are heavy ,boomerangs are light weight recreational fun .
Wish I had a dollar for every time Ive had to correct this .Boomerangs by definition MUST return .Kylies (some LOOK like boomerangs ) are like flying clubs /swords -They dont return EVER .
The catalogs are in the video description .A plain boomerang costs half of an artistic bat .Kids rangs are under $10 .Write me if you want to order any.
Over a dozen varieties of bats .Click video description to see galleries and catalogs .Write me back if you want to order one .I can explain further .
All the boomearang sites will tell you the same thing :Boomerangs are small recreational and circle.Kylies are big heavy fly in straight line VERY DEADLY.
Some Kylies (throw sticks , hunting sticks )look like boomerangs BUT much wider. They have been confused because they where all grouped as boomerangs centuries ago.
Max I dont make many cardboard kinds .The shape effects the big wooden ones much more.Try an omega shape . Have you flicked with a pencil along a books edge yet ?
Does it have an air foil ? Does each wingtip have a warp upward ? You should have written me before you made it .How big is it from tip to tip, made from what ,how thick ?
I am not a boomerang proffesional, so i dont exactly know every thing. Earlier today I made a thin cardboard boomerang and it worked so I saw this and decided to try to make one like my first one
Cardboard boomerangs can be cut from cereal boxes in V,X,Y shapes .They are launched flat and struck by finger or pencil very hard resting on palm or a book.3-6inches will work fine flat .
I am interested in unique boomerang shapes like bat and I was interested in your religous ones. all though I guess those were just the origanal shapes just painted and carved differently
Kylies are very very deadly and used even in war on Humans .They can even latch onto shields and swing around and smack a warrior .The beak shape catches on a shield.
United States Boomerang Association web site (FAQ)will set you straight .Boomerangs are too small & light to hurt or cut .Kylies are like flying clubs-heavy.
Why couldn't the boomerang ever been a weapon, it seems like a great idea. You throw it, it either hits the target or misses and comes right back to you for a quick repeat throw. Sounds good?
Incidently, as a question to an obvious boomerang expert, would it be possible to have a boomerang which had adjustabled angle to the wings? What effect would that have?
Great question- wide angles spin slow , skinny angles spin fast .Adjustable rangs arent very practical because they are weak at the elbow, they have been made though.
Wow, first time anyone has got the reference, believe it or not.
Thanks for explaining. Would a faster spin have any other effect? By my admitadly shakey understanding of the airfoil, I would think a faster spin would produce more height.
I make both .Kylies can puncture and cut through skin .Kylies can also break legs of kangaroos and big Emu birds .Kylies have killed people in war .They can fly through a man like a spear .Kylies are NOT boomerangs .Boomerangs are not weapons .Some boomerangs have been used to chase birds into nets .
Batman is fictional - he uses the little metal bladed bats to pop light bulbs and stab criminals in legs ( in comics). The computer controled one stolen by Penguin was the stupidest (in the movie).
Kylies and boomerangs where confused by the explorer and discoverer Captain Cook .Boomerangs return and are lightweight recreational sport .Kylies are bigger and heavier like a flying sword/ club .Kylies are letahl hunting sticks they never return .Some kylies can look like a very wide boomerang .

@flyingscience but wouldn't that throw off your airfoil and not generate enough lift
Matanui97 1 year ago
@Matanui97 Taped coins increase distance .The effect is small that it negates lift it might return a little lower so you aim a little higher .

what happens if u buy a boomerang and they say its a 40 metere flyer. does it mean that it has to travel 40 meters to come back? please respond
jchan989 2 years ago
Boomerang makers measure or estimate the flight of each boomerang. You then MUST have a field larger than that size to throw in.
flyingscience 2 years ago
The distance of the flight is the width of the entire circle .You can increase distance by adding more weight ,tape more coins to tips.
flyingscience 2 years ago
You can decrease the flight by adding a warp of 1/8th an inch, can decrease the radius by 15-20 feet .Warping tips is not for the novice usually.

Simply visit the United States Boomerang association web site and read the FAQ's. Kylies kill but are not boomerangs they cant circle back.
flyingscience 3 years ago
In Australia boomerangs will flush out marsh birds and Kylie will kill them .Kylie will aim well and have a 3+ foot swath of death.
flyingscience 3 years ago
There are some exceptions some birds have been killed by boomerangs .Boomerangs cant be aimed easily like straight flying kylies .

The only exception would be boomerangs used to scare birds into nets .I throw them so belive me I know , they would sting but not kill .
