  • Marty mess with coke in the 70's?

  • where and when was this show filmed? Love to know if you can see it in full

  • who can dislike a song like this???

  • I'm thoroughly loving his style and charisma :D

  • I hate the country that is played today. I go to Itunes and listen to the classic country all the time I'm at work.

  • woh, was that lap steel guitar player a chinese dude? don't see many of them ha ha ha. is it me or does Marty resemble Burt reynolds

  • @sjdj408 I think he was Hawaiian. Very cool.

  • @wa2k99 Yes. I thought I was watching Don Ho!

  • Who agrees that Marty was the King of Country?

  • I agree.

  • Unique is all I can say

  • I love this song. My mom used to listen to it a lot when I was little. But he sure likes himself. Ick. I liked the song better before I saw this video...

  • @lindaclaudette He played with the audience quite a bit. Why do you think that he like himself? He was fantastic singer/songwriter and he lived life to the fullest. He enjoyed playing and singing, and he had a great sense of humor. Lighten up!

  • @geerterri he loved his audience. i heard that in his biography he said that he had a heart attack on stage but finished the show. doctors later told him that he did a lot of damage by continuing, but he said he had a show to do. the damage actually caused his early death.

  • wish elvis had done this song

  • One of my favorite country singers. @loc139 many thanks for uploading

  • I've always had a massive crush on this guy. He's long gone, but I still adore him. Thanks to everyone who has posted these great videos.

  • With a voice like Marty Robbins you don't need a big guitar.

  • WHO IS THAT GUY LOOK LIKE ASIAN GUY WHO PLAY STRINGS ?

  • Marty was not a very big man... A dreadnought almost made him disappear. For a long while he played a ukelele in personal appearances. The guitar he is playing is a Martin 5-18. Martin has introduced a Marty Robbins version of the 5-18 and I think it has been out for a couple of years. He used it to lead his band... it was subtle, but there were certain cues that he gave the members.

  • What's up with the toy guitar ? I love the song and all , but I'm curious about that little bitty guitar.

  • The great Marty One of a kind His voice is one of a kind no one has got any thing that is called talent any better that this man had ..

  • My freind rose got to meet marty in hopkins,mn with texas bill!!!!

  • Back in the '70's I would see Marty host the grand master fiddler's contest at Opryland in Nashville. He was a wonderful showman. You could see how much he enjoyed entertaining his audiance. We sure lost a very talented man at a young age.

  • Not only the best entertainer, but a man s man as well and as a woman s man he was mmmm OK lol . He was magic You Gave Me A Mountain. What a song He wrote it and not many could perform it. Let s see. Marty Robbins, Frankie Lane, Elvis Presley, Gene Watson, Johnny Clarke and ???? About it. Thanks for the memories.

  • Martin David Robinson left an indelible mark on country music. Isn't it a shame and crime the sh_t the try to palm off as country music inTrashville, TN? It makes me retch, then I listen to this man and smile.

  • wat een lied, en wat een zanger, veel te vroeg van ons weggegaan

  • FANTABULOUS

  • Great song, And a great singer.

  • Darn PERFECT! Marty could sing on his head for all I care! His inflections, effortless vocal range, his stage antics, and song interpretation are all flawless - a testament to his status as one of the GREATEST SINGER/SONGWRITERS IN COUNTRY. WHAT A VOICE!!!!!

  • does any one know who the drummer is ?

  • i am happy to be alive as long as i have marty to listen to.

  • Marty you are always missed this is my favorite song

  • Mr. Marty Robbins was by for the Greastest Perfomer, Singer, and Songwriter that ever lived. Shut Up Elvis and drive

  • As much as liked and respected Marty, his performance in these videos always bothered me. He appeared either drunk or stoned. The constant mugging and goofing off kind of ruined the music.

  • @smasica I disagree, that was just marty. He loved to ham it up on stage and loved his fans and they loved him back

  • This song was 50 years ago no.10 in the world charts #marty #robbins

  • This song was 50 years ago no.10 in the world charts #marty #robbins

  • Nice! Thanks for sharing

  • I don't think there was anyone who loved to perform any more than Marty did. A great entertainer that left way too soon. He sang effortlessly with with a voice as smooth as silk.

  • @dlfcci I have to agree. I love all of his hits.

  • 3 people worried.

  • Sure would like to see a straight, full length version of Big Iron.......

  • He has several clips out but this one is the best by a long shot. He was at the top here. Great.

  • such a great showman. Its sad he died when he was just beginning to really relax and have fun.

  • a great talent....none around today could shine his shoes

  • @biltom AMEN !!

  • he acted so silly, but he could afford to, he had it made, he was on top 15 years running, I wonder if Elvis costume designer got his Idea from marty's ? also that guitar looks really small he uses

  • Simply the best. no one can replace him .One of a kind. Left us so soon.

  • What a great singer! This man is one of the very best.

  • im 16 but i guess they just wanted to "save the best till last" in concert

  • Good.....

  • he performed last because he was racing before each show at the opry, when he got there he was wired from driving and played until they run him off the stage.

  • Thanks, I needed to hear this right now

  • I get a kick out of this version every time I hear it. Priceless.

  • Marty Robbins didn't have a damn lick of sense (ROFL) - but he could sure sing!!!

  • Looks like he's really enjoying this performance; he's the male equivalent of feisty in this video. This is my favorite Marty Robbins song. Miss him.

  • does any one know which song of his is abut the sheriffs son that tried to get ravange for some outlaws kiklling his dad

  • The best there was. Thanks so much for posting. I subscribed while I was here, too. =)

  • I love Marty Robbins, Jim Reeves and nearly all old country and western music - But I just love Marty RIP

    Sheila

  • One of my fondest memories of my mother was watching Marty Robbins on TV. She LOVED him. And I learned to love him because of her. She pointed out his humor..I was a child...but I can still see us sitting there, my mother laughing, me laughing because she was laughing...not understanding WHAT she was laughing at, but having a great time anyway.

    Thanks loc139

  • @Brenda0312F

I was that way about ELVIS he could be so funny sometimes too!

  • FANTASTIC!!!! Marty In all His Glory!!!!!

  • What can you say but "PERFECT' what a talent to listen to his voice is a honor

  • Unbelievable talent. RIP.

  • the great marty robbins, country music LEGEND!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I wonder why the one guy behind Marty is just standing there, motionless. Probably more of Marty's humor. . .

  • he was one of the best we dont have the tallent like this any more

  • if only we could bring back time...

  • Yeah, RIP Marty

  • What a VOICE and the BEST..

  • must of been a later version, sounds like marty ain't got no wind here,

  • Yes, he wrote it in 1960. It was said to be the first song to have that "fuzz" effect in it. His engineers were going to change it and he told them to leave it just the way it is. Great song! :).

  • @nathonics - thanks for the info, I put this on my 1960 playlist, one of 110 that let you hear the sounds of any past year as if you've stepped back in time.

I've playlisted over 300 great artists like Marty, from around the world, some of the best music you've never heard.

It's my 6000 favorites on 450 playlists so you can find your own there & play for up to two hours

  • I love this song! He's such a character and playful. He's a funny guy!

  • this is the very first song to use a fuzz guitar tone. VERY cool!!!

  • Great!

  • Marty was one of the best singers there ever was, I would have loved to have seen him in person. Has anyone heard of a song called JENNY, I have ony heard it one time, on his last Opry appearance I think. I would love to hear it again

  • Suzey,

Jenny is available from the iTunes store...it's on his Biggest Hits album.

  • Marty, I love you. This song is one of my favorites. You were one of the all time greats. Right up there with Hank and Patsy.

  • Great song. lol my dad use to sing this.

  • Thank you for sharing this video .....WOW! "Marty Robbins was one of the greats American Country Music Singers that ever lived"!

  • If you've never heard-Merle Haggard does a fantastic impression of Marty. Search here on youtube for "Merle Haggard Marty Robbins unusual video" and you can watch them both together. It's really funny!

  • Well boys and girls, I like to think the reason he performed last was because he was, simply the best.

    RIP Marty Robbins

  • you got that right

  • I heard a comment from, I think it was Chet Atkins, that the biggest reason that Marty always performed last on the Grand Ole Opry, was because they could never get him to leave the stage!!! Marty performed for his fans pure and simple. He once said that one of the biggest things that kept him going after his heart attacks was the thousands of fan letters wishing him well. He loved singing for us, all of us! God Bless Marty Robbins, and I bet he is still performing up there in Heaven!

  • I heard that he performed late because he was doing the NASCAR thing during the day.

  • Sir, your comment is very correct. They could not get him off the stage. The show and radio program would end but Marty didn, t. During race season, Saturday nights you would find Marty driving his car at the race track. When the races were over he would haul ass to the Opry. So that was the two true reasons for him being last. I, and my Band, had the pure pleasure of opening a few shows for Marty. He was indeed a real and wonderful, fun loving, honest person.

  • did marty write this also?

He was far above hank and patsy..

I dont think could write a song lyric...could she??

Dont think so .Hanks vocie doest compare to Martys nor did hischarm

Does it sound like I loved Marty? yes

  • I have a question to Marty Fans, Wasnt his Steel Player Hawaiian and it seems like Jeannie Pruetts Husband was in Martys Band

  • This is Marty at his best, I remember seeing him in concert with Margo Smith when i was in my early teens before he passed away. And this is the way he exactly acted, I want to say he was having more fun than his audience. He will NEVER be replaced, No one will ever come close to respecting their fans and havin a blast with them. RIP MARTY i am sure you are putting on a good show for GOD

  • Amen to your comments about Marty. He will never be replaced. He relied on true, awesome talent to become a superstar. These wannabes today can only dream of being half as good.

  • very true

  • it was a defected ..amp true----but it was a Bass guitar playing that ride---and it was in the 60's

  • sorry...it was a defective tube, and happened in the studio, with the steel guitar, not the base...ralph emery i beleive told the story of this.

  • Johnnyhuis is correct - at 1:19 is where it happens and Marty's reaction is awesome.

  • Wish he didn't ham it up. Reminds of of Elvis's last concerts.

  • This is what invented the fuzz on electric guitars in the 70's! Steel guitar amp tube went defective! What caught my attention is the steel guitar player kept on playing like it was normal and Marty pranced like he like it!

  • it happened in the studio when Marty first recorded it, they've used it ever since.

  • Thanks for the correction and your comment! I love your channel!

  • What a voice,talent,and loss!!!

  • he's so funny on stage. that's y we love him

  • It's called the fuzztone guitar

  • Animated musicianship

  • how good is this man -the best ==Damir

  • yes please

  • what can i say but a great big WOW what a great singer he was wish he was still with us thankful we can still injoy his songs and still see him on vids. wish i had the chance to see him live

  • Does anyone know what the musical instrument is called? The one that looks like a steel guitar. Love that sound!!

  • It's called a pedal steel guitar.

  • its still a steel guitar...

just with a little more effects added with it

  • I just lost my Mother...I dont know how Im going to go on , But with this Dear misic helps keep her alive in my heart even more... thanks to all that was blessed to share thier wonderfull song with us. May you all rest in peace & please sing them pretty for Mommy the way you always have.

  • I saw Marty and Elvis on the same show. Marty was the star and Elvis just a newcomer. This was in New Orleans. I was a huge fan of Marty's.

  • My deceased Mother loved Marty better than all others. Before her death, I had the oppertunity to get her tickets to his show not far from home. Conway Twitty was also on the same show. She got to sit on the 3rd row. She loved the way Marty could hit those high notes. I am thankful that I got to do that for my dear Mother. Rest in Peace Mama and Marty.

  • Man, I would have done anything to see Marty and Conway on the same show. They are two of my country favorites.

There is something cool about seeing two legends on the same show. I got to see Bob Dylan and Paul Simon on the same show. Needless to say, it was the best concert I have ever been to.

  • walliegirl12. I got to see Conway and Loretta together in concert in1974 in Columbus Ga. while in the army at Ft. Benning Ga. That was an awesome show also.

  • I was always amazed at how much he talked about his beloved wife. What a lucky woman!

  • Believe it or not but my uncle had Marty's music playing softly in the background at his wake. It was fantastic.

  • This is good!

This must be the song Ben Colder makes fun of?

  • A great song by a great singer. A ***** star.

  • I became a fan as a 12-13 y/o in 1982...just months before he died.

Wish I had become one earlier.

Now, country music is mostly line dancing crap that's kind of like 70's disco. Mostly built around the music and not the lyrics.

  • I was lucky enough to see Marty in the early 80s, he was great and one of my all time favorites and has influenced my singing alot. Great artist and man.

  • Great stuff.

  • Quel hombre, quel voce

  • a tru legend my favorite song.. god bless his soul..!!!

  • Not only does Marty have one of the best voice of all time, he's quite a nice cut up as well.

  • His voice reminds me of Jim Reeves. Another great singer. They both have soothing voices.

  • They don't make 'em like that anymore.

  • Marty would make faces at the audience, when they would

get up to take a photo. Many times he stayed and talked to

everyone in the audience, long after the show was scheduled

    to end...they loved it!

  • Of course he did, he knew who signed his paycheck. He loved his audience and they loved him back.

  • Haha. Why does Marty keep doing that fast, "crowd-searching" gaze? Hhahaha.

  • We saw him in Indpls a few months before he passed away, the fair guys got mad at him because he ran his show over the fans went crazy, it was the best concertI ever attended and still remeber it to this day, that was 1982 I do believe...such a performer,He picked a little girl up brought her on stage and took pictures with her camera,I think he had a band member take one of him holding her, again crowd went nuts, Thank You for this RIP Marty

  • That sounds like Marty, put the fans ahead of the 'rules.'

And yes that would have to be 1982 if it was just a few months before he passed.

  • I even heard when he would perform at the Opry he was the last one on for the night. He spent the day working on his race car then he came to perform at the Opry at night after. At which he always turned back the clock so he could keep singing for the audience, they sure dont make them as good as marty was

  • I love his music and , yes, his music and this show is wonderful but it apears to me that he has some very 'odd' stage gestures. Like at 1:27 when he takes off into that very strange dance...LOL. Not in anyway that it makes me like him any less...he just does some odd stuff...LOL. Is he known for this or was it just done here for the camera?

  • Those odd stage gestures were part of Marty's live performances. The story goes, he was always last on the list to perform, giving him time to finish his car racing. When he got to the Opry, the audience was tired. So he would 'cut up' on stage, making them laugh, and wake up. He did it so often that he developed a reputation for being funny on stage and people loved going to his performances! Anyway, thats the story I got, I THINK its accurate!

  • you are absolutely right, thats what he did , i hear he even turned back the hands on the clock so he could keep performing for the audience at the opry

  • If you want to see him in all his wonderful versitilty .. please check on."My Isle of Golden Dreams" and then "Faleena". you won't be dissapointed.

  • He did this song in a lot of his concerts, that 'strange little dance' was a part of this song in the concerts - never done the exact same way twice. I did make it to one concert in 1978.

  • FANTASTIC yes what a performer.. r.i.p MARTY.. i love this song.

  • I really miss that guy!

  • Just incredible - what a performer. Thankyou for posting. RIP Marty.

  • thanks for posting this concert. iv'e tried every which way to obtain it, so thanks so much LOC

  • fantastic... nuff said!
