The bottom line is that this, well "old-new" scoring system (since they changed it again), was/is unfair because it put(s) too much emphasis on difficulty, therefore forcing gymnasts to increase their difficulty; it inadvertantly favor(ed)(s) specific athletes/teams; the fact that the Chinese team won by ~8 points is a fact of that, in my opinion.
But figure skating has gone to hell, so why not send art. gymnastics on that road, too.
