Ironically, his "quest for that voice" is what brought about his early demise. The "smokey voice" he maintained, was done on purpose, made posible by over-indulgence of cigarettes. This is the truth behind Nat's success & demise, but before there was a "Surgeon General" who later (after Nat's death) warned of the risks of smoking cigarettes and lung cancer. My wife & I love and miss him, this was our "Wedding Song!"
