DMC1 is also truly awesome; the fighting system especially. If found 2 to be dour and repetitive by comparison; you want to talk about dragging on? But the third one more than makes up for it; it's way over the top, but in a good way. I haven't played onimusha; I bought it, but kinda lost interest half way through. Might check it out again, though. We seem to share the same tastes. ^^
I totally agree with you here! FFXII is my favourite of the series so far, and I love the others. The system is really intuitive when you get used to it, I like the licencing thing, and the voice acting was excellent, which I was not expecting after FFX (ugh).

there was nothing wrong with ffX's voice acting. besides, FF10 and 7 kick XII's ass
