    dat Jaayenge Dat Jaayenge

waqt Aayega To Is Kursi Pe Hum

    dat Jaayenge Dat Jaayenge

And the day finally came.. womens are ahead in every field.

  • I am sad to hear of this talented and pretty actress's tagic life. Many people like me who have seen this film will remember her with fondness. Thank you riddler for the upload.

  • This is an excellent song. I sang it in our game of Antakshri in the sixties. Yet nobody seemed to have heard it.

  • Watching this song is great fun to me.....

  • Lol

  • Lol

  • Orientflover This is my one of the most favourite songs. It is very sad to hear the storey of Meena Shorey.Life is like that.

Similar poverty was faced by so many artists of 50s like Bhagwan.

We should lead a very humble life and should never be proud of small victories.

  • its composed by vinod...

  • Beautiful song. Look at the hunks in the song. LOL

  • Essentially a Panjabi song - sung in Hindi

  • nice song man !!!!

  • Very nice Song and Music...Also Body Language....I have just listen one on FM 92.04 i was coming from office duty at 3 am night.. then found i song by word Addi tapa....and i like this song so much...what was the time then...and now what is the condition of Media..Just vulgarity.... Alas! that time comes back... aha...i have no more words to say just sadness....................May ALLAH give her best place in Paradise........Death ..is Every things end.......

  • ladi dappa dadi dapa da

  • One of the song which I heard in early fitties when I was a small child. I liked at that time and I like today also. Feeling ashamed to read about her end.

  • thank u orientlover for giving the meaning of laara lappa...also for letting us know the ill fate fell on this innocent girl, Meena Shorey!! we no longer get this sort of innocent faces on the silver screen!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Meena Shorey died in extreme poverty. She had blood cancer and was admitted into the general ward of Mayo Hospital in Lahore. Of the new generation nobody knew her but one day a senior doctor recognized her. Next morning news broke in the press. She was sent abroad for treatment but it was too late. She was living with her nephews and nieces at Sheesh Mahal Road before her death in 1989. She married 4 or 5 times in her life - the last with a lowly actor. She hailed from Raiwind near Lahore.

  • @orientlover1 very sad

  • Those who have seen full movie will know that before the beginning of this song there is a small dialogue between Meena Shorey and actor Moti Lal who asks her which language is this and she replies "Punjabi". Then he asks meaning of Laara Lappa and she says "taal matol karna" (delaying tactics). Then he asks and what is addi tappa and she says "khwamkha jhadra karna" (picking up fight for nothing).

  • what a song sooooooooooooooooooooo super

  • What a song and what a voice, wonderful recollections of GOLDEN old days they remain for EVER no time no aginging.

    SR

  • what a innocent girl n song

  • wt a cool song love it

  • A beautiful, popular and entertainer song. But one is really moved to know the story of the star Meena Shorey i.e. from riches to rags. Ameen.

  • I saw the movie years ago and was thrilled to watch the song today. Lara lappa is an evergreen song and despite the tragedy of Meena Shourey's later life, she will always live on in our hearts as the Lara Lappa bubbly girl, for that is the stuff memories are made of.

  • Ek Thi Ladki - 1949 movie.

  • i love it

  • the mukhda of this song is a straight lift from the second line of the polish song " Szła dzieweczka do laseczka " search under the "Szła dzieweczka do laseczka

    thanks riddler100

  • The movie 'Ek Thi Ladki' was released in 1949. The song was a hit then and its appeal continues to hold sway to this day. Alas, Meena Shorey was not able to build on this foundation. If only she had stayed back in India with Bollywood....

  • @KishorKR i agree wirh you she opted for a society which never valued her

  • Actress Meena Shouri was the Natural Beauty. She was so beautiful in her time.

Super Hit song by Rafi Sahab, Lata & G.M. Durrani of 1950s film "Ek Thi Ladki". This song mostly played on Bhoole Bisre Geet in Vividh Bharti Radio.

    Prince Lalit Bhambhani

    Atlanta, Georgia ( USA )

  • one thing is for sure, male voice is not that of Rafi, please correct it

  • @arsheds You're right. The main voice is that of G.M.Durrani, who was senior to Rafi in 49. Rafi is the supporting voice repeating the last word of some of the lines.

  • The final part of her life story is almost too painful to be real. While Roop K. Shorey died in 1973 in India, from a broken heart over the separation from his sweetheart; Meena the former wife of the studio owner and once a bright star in the galaxy of Bollywood was reduced to extremely destitute living by the end of her life before her death in 1989.

  • @mamooty1921 she married a B class Pakistani actor in, probably 1955, when a Pakistani director wanted to make a copy of Aik Thi Larki. Her husband (something Bokhari) mistreated her and Roop Shorey did return to take his 'wayward' wife back. By this time she had reconciled to her life resulting from a misjudgment. Her last appearance in show business was on a Pakistani television show called 'Silver Jubilee' in 1988 or 1989. What a tragic end to such a pretty face with a promising beginnin.

  • @mamooty1921 She visited Pakistan for making that movie in 1955 and never returned. She was feted as a celebrity when she first came to the country but died a pauper.

  • @Bareilykobans Typical indian/hindu woman giving her life for a paki/arab/muslim man....nothing with that. That will always go on forever. No big deal hindu woman with arab/paki muslim man thats the greatest.

  • Meena Shorey was the silver screen temptress of the 40s and the 50s. Once the hippest girl in the Indian movie industry, she was born in Raiwind in a small rural household. Her father lived a wayward life and used to beat his wife brutally. One of Meenas sisters married and moved to Bombay, and she and her mother followed. Sohrab Modi at the time was looking for a young girl who could play the lead in Sikandar (1941), Nasim, the most beautiful woman of her time, having walked out.

  • The actress singing in this song, Meena Shorey died in poverty a few years back. She had blood cancer and was admitted in a general ward of Mayo Hospital Lahore. Nobody knew her. When on tour of the ward a senior doctor recognized her and declared she was Meena Shorey - a famous actress of the past. Punjab govt. extended some special medical aid but all in vain. She died a few weeks later. She actually hailed from Kasur, a town near Lahore.

  • She was not from Kasur but Multan. I read her last interview which was publish in the book "out of dat" written by Journalist Munir Ahmed Munir

  • Words are fail to describe the beauty of this song. This is so innocent. Simply amazing.

  • A thoroughly enjoyable song. Thanks.

  • Film - Ek Thi Ladki. Motilal, Meena Shorey, IS Johar.

  • Comment removed

  • a btiful mindblowing composition of VINOD. divine n honey sweet voice of lata ji & very sweet n butiful meena shori make this song immortal. this is one of the most favourite songs of lata ji. sad 2 say that VINOD died at very young age du 2 tetanus as i hv learnt, otherwise he must hv given us more such like butiful gems.

  • GOOD OLD SONG FOR LADIES

  • Who is the frontline male actor in this song? Is he Sajjan who later came to be known as a very popular vilian of Hindi cinema?

  • lovely song and meena shouri a larilappa girl as she referred after this movie was superb.

  • how sad that this beautiful woman died as a pauper. No one remembered her when she fell to oblivion. Indeed stardom is such a cruel world

  • Indeed. Totally tragic. Very, very sad. Going by her performance in this film, she was immensely talented too. BTW, this film is marvelous. One of the finest comedies of Hindustani cinema.

  • can anyone tell me where i can find the remix, more modern version of this?

i did a dance to it, but cant find it anywhere on youtube!?!? if anyone finds the remix please message me or just reply to this comment. id really appreciate it <3

i still like the modern version so much more (:

  • one of the popular most song of early 1950eez. This song converted Meena Shori into Lara Lappa girl for rest of her life. It's lyrics were maxim of that perid maslan Aaj kul ki naarian Hain muft ki bemarian Kam kuch karti naheen Aur pehnati hain sarian. Boht wadia ,maza aa gya.

  • today gentlement look very suited buited but empty handed,, still he make excuse,,,gentle say,, todays, womens are freely disease, daily thinks about fighting whole day , night,, do nothing but put on beautiful dress,,

  • wow whata song? Very pre-entertainment/westernized bollywood.

What language is this? I understand a lot of the words, but some of them I don't.

  • can someone translate the words for me as I love the song but do not understand the words.

    Thanks,,

  • making lame exuses and tomarro , today ,making again excuses, when she demanded money, from his lover, dear is extraordinary, still he boasting, enable to understand, making excuses,,elder already predicted, no dealing inn love,,, same again excuse, today and tomarrow,,,oh,,, false promises,,oh,,,

  • Oye, singh...theek taran english sikh lai...teri angrezi taan bilkul bakwaas hai..

  • @Tonyroy00 my dear sir, what is wrong with my english. thanx.

  • Beautiful song. ... On top of the clear and pure entertainment these beautiful old songs provide--- they open a small window to the recent past of our culture as well --- e.g. 4:20 - 4:50 section suggests that At the time, saree was not the outfit for a working Punjabi woman unlike in the rest of the Indian subcontinent . Kuckudk, Chamogaa --- comments, anecdotes?

  • She looks like Hollywood star .

  • simple but very powerful and clear picturisation

  • I can't quite understand parts of this song... is it Punjabi?

  • Lara lappa means to keep pending. when she asks money he puts it off one one excuse or the other.

  • Thanks for the forward, Sharmaji. A year ago, another channel reminded me of the song's great popularity in my childhood. Apart from the enjoyable teasing between the men and women, there is a feminist message here--long before the word feminism became common currency, especially when the women say they will someday sit in the chairs where men are sitting! Between 1949 and now, at least well-educated women if not all women have scaled great heights in India.

  • puraane ghaane mein kya mazaa tha...

aaj kal sirf bakwaas banta hai

  • fantaastic song!

  • Meena shorey is so loveable and charming in this song. Beaks ones heart what happened to her and how she ended up:-(

  • You are absolutdely correct! It is unfortunate that many of the singers and screen performers of the golden era of Hindi films ended their lives tragically. Meena Kumarie, GM Durrani, Khan Mustana, Geeta Dutt, Guru Dutt, and others succumbed to the clutches of the "demon drink" known as alcohol and died miserably. Their lives reinforce the age old adage that money does not buy happiness, friendship, love, or a peace of mind!

  • lara lappa mean false promise

  • thnx for the translate umy

  • aww such a cute song I like the way she says

lara lapa lara lapa lol,,,,,,funny in a cute way .........how innocent these old songs were/are...amazing...what is lara lapa by the way?

    Thanks for sharing...

  • This song is one the most 'shokh' songs ever

in hind/urdu films. Meena simply is most expressive here. And above all......Vinod , great

    composition.

  • Thank you so much for posting this...such an amazing song with simple music n lyrics....love her expressions...

  • Thanks for this rare gem.The simplicity in this song is so lovable.

  • The Actress Meena Shourie became famous after this song and was known by name "Laralappa girl"

  • Lara Lappa Lai Rakha Tha is a popular song. The actress Meena Shourie is not seen in more films or her movies are not available. I would like to see her in other movies. I learnt she left India after partitiion and settled in Pakisthan where she met with litle success and died unrecognised. However she was a beautiful actress.

  • BEAUTIFUL SONG still my fav.........TIK

  • nothing special an extra singing in a childish tone looks like kamini kaushal

  • Sorry..!! to interrupt the the beautiful journey, down memory lane....

just have a careful listen at 2:45 in the video.. :-)

  • meena shorey can also b seen in 1970 punjabi film heer ranjha one of the best pakistani movie which had beautiful songs by noorjahan composed by khawaja khurshid anwar, who also composed music in parwana prepartition sehgal movie

  • yeapp Meena Shori worked in Lollywood - I really liked her work in Mousiqar.

  • This song remind me of my lost youth. Thank you very much or posting it.

  • Indrasen (IS) Johar wrote the story and also acted in the film. The film has some nice scenes of the Daal lake in Shrinagar when Kashmir was really Kashmir

  • song is the most popular song of the time.lata has sung it as if punjabi is her mother tongue she has sung it excelently

  • Punjabi is the easiest language in India, anyone could sing easily; Lata is a legend anyway.

  • Perhaps this is one song which i heard JAB MAINE HOSH SAMBHALA HE THA.I had heard this song from my mother. very old rare song. The quality of the video is wonderfully good.

    Thanks a lot Mr riddler

  • this happened in a place dhamtore near abbottabad

  • i m 63 this song is my favourite,i have personal experience of this song meena n my late friend who was attacked n injured by meenas stick in 1960.i remember the name of the film as gulfrosh in which kamal was hero n broke his arm while jumping on ahorse

  • searched for this nostalgic song to relive the days when we were so young and carefree

  • This movie was one of the best, clean, wonderful comedies. Lata's voice is young an sweet. Meena Shorey came to be known the LataLappa girl ! Thanks for this rare vide. Do you have CRamchandra's goldies from " Khazana," please ?

  • this song reminds me of my great grandfather of mine he use to have this collection of songs so now im going to continue this collection for my kids

  • thanks for such a rare video

  • This song is almost 60 years and sounds so fresh evn now.

  • Oh gosh, at last I found this song. I am short of words to describe this song. Fantastic. Awesome

  • who is the male singer?

    surendera nath/kapoor

  • The main male singer is G.M.Durrani, and the second supporting male singer is Rafi.

  • The male singer is G.M.Durrani. The supporting male singer is Rafi.

  • is this Rafi?????????? sounds like Mukesh

  • if you see this song, watch there is hardly any editing. one shot for the song.

  • My parents used to sing this song and I didn't understand the words - I still don't. But at least I know now what the fuss was about. Cute song!

  • what a song

this gril looks like katrine kaif

  • Ufff!!! mere abu jaan ka pasandeeda gana...isse sun kar unki rooh ki yaad aati hai! aur ab yeh mera bhi pasandeeda gana ho gaya hai...wah!!!

  • What a song !! And i am overwhelmed by the knowledge of ppl who have posted their comments.....Hats off....i am sad to hear abt her miserable end....she was another Madhubala..

  • A very popular song in the 1940s and a favourite of many. The actress Meena Shorey was nicknamed 'laralappa girl' after this film. After partition she migrated to Pakistan

  • Just goes to prove once again why it is so important to enjoy off whatever life presents as of today rather than postponing it to any tomorrow! One has to feel sad for such artists like Meena or Vimmi who, through no fault of theirs, just had to fade off so tragically.

  • nevertheless it's one of the best song of lata

  • lata maybe a teenager then

  • Thank you so much for uploading this song. It's my dad's favorite song, and now I've added it as my ringtone. It never fails to lift my spirits and bring smile to everyone around.

  • thanks a lot for this song..been looking for it since such looooong time!

  • Thanks again as i watch it again & again and enjoy each time. can you post some more old good songs like this. For instance- rasa sayang re.. from the movie-"Singapore" music composed by Shanker jaikishan & sung by lata and rafi.

  • Meena Shori belonged to Multan the city of Pakistan. In 1939 she moved to Bombay to become Film actress. She worked in Indian Film Industry till 1950 and then moved back to Pakistan in 1953. The last time of her life was very tragic. She passed rest of her life in Lahore and died in 1989 in very tragic condition. It is sais that her funeral was arranged with charity money.

  • Thanx for the info hammad78. I have also watched Meena's movie 'Dholak' produced by Roop k Shorey, which was a good light movie. I didn't know about her tragic end.

  • Dilij: If possible then upload the songs or movies of Meena Shorey.

  • Sure I will post 'yeh mausam aaya hai rangeen' & 'chori chori aag gsi dil men, yun lagake chal diye' both from 'dholak'.

  • mausam aya hai rangeen is my fav performance n evri one dances a song so much ahead of its time...I hav not seen DHOLAK !!!

  • She was not from Multan. She was from Raiwind the same city where Nawaz Sharif family is from.

  • Meena Shorey along with her husband Roop K Shorey came to Pakistan to direct a movie "Miss 56" for J.C. Anand (the producer of this film). She was a declining artist in India.. when she saw all the attention she received from Lahore film industry, she decided to stay back in Pakistan and ended her marriage with ROOP. K SHOREY, who left for India empty handed and heart broken after the film Miss 56 released.

  • Getting a divorce from Shorey was one of the biggest mistakes Meena committed.. as her husband was a rich Studio owner in India and if she has stayed with her husband, she wouldnt have died in such poverty. In one of her last interviews, she mentioned that among all her marriages, only the one with Roop K Shorey brought her any happiness.

  • Great old song. Very entertaing. Meena Shorey look so cute in this clip. Thank you very much.

  • My grandfather (late) told me that he watched this movie in one of the cinemas at Lahore in 1945. He also told me that Meena was the queen of people's heart.

  • Hi... the video is too good.. even the quality is good... great job man... from where did you get such a good quality video.. keep it up.

  • she lost all her fame and fortune... and died a pauper. selling her own things. went weeks without any food. and eventually died no one claimed to know her after her death becoz she had nothing left to her name. very tragic end to a very beautiful actress

  • Larki kon hy??

  • The actress in this video is Meena Shori and this song is taken from the movie Ik Thi Larki which was released in 1945. Meena Shori died in Lahore in 1989 in very tragic condition. She was in miserable condition at the time of death. It is said that Her funeral was arranged by the charity money. Meena Shori was one of the beautiful heroines of her time and her first marriage was with Roop K Shori and later she married with Al-Nasir, Raza Mir and Asad Bukhari.

  • Actors/Actresses often end in tragic conditions! Marilyn Monroe & Elvis Presley of hollywood committed suicide for unhappy life. In bollywood Meena kumari & Madhubala were lonely & unhappy when they died. Here we see Meena Shorey's end. The worst tragic end I know is actress from BWood named Vimmi (Hamraz's heroine). When she died she was living in a small dark room in worst area of Mumbai. her husband who was in other city, refused to pick up her body. finally the city corporation did the rest.

  • Surely Dilij jee...Vimmi's death was above the term "tragic". The poor married girl had left the cozy life (remember, she was a millionaire before joining the sets of Humraaz...the only introductory heroine of Hindi film industry who used to come to set in her own "Impala" in those days)but was literally entered the life of "no-where" after couple of flops...so was her married life.

"Kaagaz Ke Phool.................." perfectly describes the hopelessness in hope.

  • Oh! thanx.

  • Ohhh...but please forgive me for not mentioning anythong about this scintillating song ever..."Lara lappa..." the charm of ease and wit of the words are still mesmerizing. The last line of the song "Waqt aane pe ye bhi kar dikhlayenge..."....Meena's words belonging to era before 1950...and how dearly it proved as true that now we have here a woman as the President of India.

  • can u plz tell me more abt life of vimmi i am interested to know abt her history ..tnx a lot..

  • Well hardworking4ever, what I know is Vimmi was a married woman with two(?) children. She was wife of a wealthy man in Kolkatta. But due interest in acting she was trying to get a heroine role in BWood. Finaally BR Chopra gave her break in 'Hamraaz' as a heroine. After that she remained a flop actress & remained in Mumbai till her tragic death. PL. read other comments about vimmi for the full story.

  • This is not Vimi, this is Meena Shorey.

  • Yes, truly a tragic story. What a poignant background it is to a very catchy tune and very appealing lyrics that this song presents. By the way, the movie must have been released in 1947 or thereafter, as Lata made her debut as a playback singer only in 1947.

  • Ek Thi Larki was released in 1949.

  • one of her husband was also late zahoor raja.who was costar in noorjehans famous anmolghadhi

  • What does it mean? Is it Hindi or even any Indic language?

  • The first two lines (lara lappa ,adhi tappa' are in Sindhi language (one of indian laguages). 'adhi tappa lai rakhdan' means bring half a rupee(buck).

  • But in punjabi, "Lara" is a common word for 'excuse" (for delayin something), "lara lappa layi rakhda" means keeps on giving lame excuse for refusal (or delay).

  • Thanks you pointed this out. From the tune and the general rhythm, I felt it was more of a Punjabi tune :).

  • Thanks for this information. The beat/rhythm of the tune does look a bit Punjabi :).

  • @dilij first two lines are not in Sindhi but in Punjabi as explained by many commentators. Lai rakhda is clearly a Punjabi expression like Lara lappa and not used in Sindhi

  • what a lovely song....from the distant past. thanks...

  • great song but i dnt think rafi is in it

  • Rafi is very much in it, but only for a few words. He is the supporting male singer who repeats words of the main singer, like 'bimariyan' 'taiyariyan'.

  • beautiful tune

  • Lovey song with a stunningly beautiful Lara Lappa Girl- good old days.... Thanks a lot for posting it!

  • WOW! Thanks for this classic. Its timeless music and my 4 year old's favorite.

  • Beautiful classic song, it shows that subcontinent film industry was good enough even before 1947.

  • If I'm not wrong this song is from Indian Movie "Ek Thi Ladki" and artist-Moti Laal & Meena Shorey. She migrated to Pakistan n continued to act in Pak Movies. And died in poverty at old age. Traggic End.

  • thanks for sharing... nice song.. many memories assoicated with this song.. :)

  • Vow...beautiful n classic number. This number became so popular that this actress performing the song, Meena Shorey came to be known as 'Lara Lappa Girl'.

    ThanX for this gr8 post!
